Discrimination and falsely accused

Your prayer for your son has been heard and we are lifting him up before the Lord with you in this painful and frightening time.

To be falsely accused and to suffer discrimination and hateful insults in your own home is a heavy affliction, and it is right to bring it to God who sees all things clearly and judges with perfect justice. He knows the truth of what happened, He heard every word spoken in anger, and He knows your son's innocence and his fear as he faces this court date in October. Nothing is hidden from Him.

Scripture teaches us that we do not always know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us, and God alone knows what is expedient for us. For that reason we are called to give thanks in all things, even in poverty, in sickness, and when we are falsely accused. This does not mean the wrong is not wrong, but that God can use even affliction for our good. Affliction presses us into the narrow way that leads to life, it lightens us, it teaches us to trust not in ourselves but in Him, and it keeps our hearts close to Christ.

The Lord Jesus said, blessed are you when people insult you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Him. Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven. When we bear false accusation patiently and keep a clear conscience before God, our suffering is not wasted. Others before us have known bonds and imprisonment and cruel mockings, and God was with them there.

So we pray for your son in this way.

Father in heaven, we thank You that You are a God of truth and justice and mercy. You see what has happened between this young man and his landlord. You know every detail, every word spoken, every action taken. We ask You to comfort this son who is afraid. Take away his fear of what may come and give him peace that passes understanding. Guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Let truth be made clear before the court in October. Give wisdom and favor to those who will hear his case, and provide him with honest and wise counsel to help him. Protect him from injustice and from jail if he is innocent, and let justice be done according to Your righteousness.

We pray also for the landlord, that You would soften his heart, turn him from hateful speech and false witness, and bring him to repentance. We ask that You would restrain any further harm or harassment.

We ask that You would use this trial to draw your son closer to You, to strengthen his faith, to teach him to cast all his anxiety on You because You care for him, and to give him courage to walk with integrity in the days ahead. Help him to respond without hatred, to keep his conscience clear, and to trust You as his defender.

We will continue to remember him before the Lord as October approaches. Encourage him to keep a careful record of what has happened, to seek sound legal help, to walk quietly and wisely, and above all to keep praying and giving thanks, knowing that God is near to the brokenhearted and will not forsake those who trust in Him.

Your request has been heard and your concern for your son is deeply felt. It is painful to watch your child be insulted with such hateful words, to be falsely accused, and then to face arrest and the fear of jail when he has never been in trouble before. God sees what has happened behind closed doors, He hears every cruel word that was spoken, and He knows the truth about what took place.

Scripture gives us this word for times of fear, fear not, be glad and rejoice, for the Lord will do great things. That promise was given to people who felt stripped and vulnerable, and it reminds us that even when circumstances look barren, God can cause the pastures to spring up again and the trees to bear fruit. He is still the One who does great things, and He calls His children to rest in that and to rejoice not in the trouble but in Him.

The Bible also shows that God understands oppression. When the children of Israel were in Egypt, those in power feared losing control and so they made the people serve with harshness and rigor and made their lives bitter with hard bondage. The Lord saw that harsh treatment and He did not ignore it. He also understands what it is to be accused of being unjust. People sometimes question whether God is fair when injustice seems to prevail, yet He is perfectly righteous and He has a purpose even in what we do not understand. He has made each person as He has made them for His own purposes, and your son, with his background and the color God gave him, is made in the image of God, valued and loved, not what any cruel name has called him.

Moses knew fear as well. He was afraid that no one would believe him and that no one would listen, and at one point the people were so weighed down by oppression that they could not even hear his words. God understood that fear and He still made a way for the truth to be shown and for deliverance to come. He sees your son's fear about court and about what might happen in October, and He hears your prayers when you feel unheard by others.

We are praying for your son now. We ask the Lord to calm his fear and to replace it with peace, to guard him from harm, to let the truth be clearly known in court, and to bring justice where there has been false accusation and discrimination. We pray that the Lord will give wisdom and favor with those who will judge the case, that He will comfort you as his mother as you carry this burden, and that He will work even in the heart of the landlord who has acted with such hostility. May the Lord show Himself strong on your son's behalf, and may you both be able to be glad and rejoice as you see the great things He will do.

We place this whole matter in the hands of Jesus Christ, who alone is our Savior and our righteous Judge, trusting that He will act with both mercy and justice.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for your son in this very painful and difficult situation.

We have continued to lift up your son before the Lord and we remember his need before the throne of grace. We have prayed for him as he faces this false accusation from his landlord, for the discrimination and hurtful language he has endured in his own home, and for the fear and anxiety he feels about his court date in October and the fear of going to jail when he has never been in trouble before. We have asked God to be his defender and advocate, to let the truth be clearly revealed in court and to protect his future and his record from this injustice.

We have also prayed for peace for your son and for you as his parent, that the Lord would calm his fear and replace it with courage and assurance, for we are reminded of Isaiah 41:10 and Psalm 34:18. We have prayed that the court will act with fairness and discernment and that justice will prevail, and we have prayed even for the landlord that God would work in his heart and bring conviction and truth to light.

We are grateful you shared this burden with us and we continue to stand with you in prayer.
