Disappointed

We hear your disappointment and we join with you in bringing this burden before the Lord, for He cares deeply about your hurt and about your family. We know that family relationships can bring great joy but also deep pain when expectations are not met or when those closest to us fail us.

We are reminded that Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18 We also take comfort that we can cast all our worries on him, because he cares for us. 1 Peter 5:7 Your disappointment is not hidden from God, and He invites you to pour out your heart honestly before Him.

In times of family hurt, we must guard our hearts against letting disappointment take root as bitterness or resentment. See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God, that no root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it. Hebrews 12:15 We encourage you to seek grace to forgive even as you feel hurt, for we are called to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 And bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Colossians 3:13 This does not mean that hurtful behavior is excused, but that we release the debt to God and trust Him to work justice and healing in His time. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:18 Sometimes that means setting healthy boundaries while still walking in love and honor, for we are commanded to honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you. Exodus 20:12 And the discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense. Proverbs 19:11

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 It is by believing in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we are reconciled to God and our prayers are heard. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Him alone for salvation and to bring every prayer to God in His precious name.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one who is disappointed and hurting because of family. You see the reasons, even those not spoken here, and You know every detail. We ask that You comfort this wounded heart, heal the disappointment, and guard against bitterness. Grant wisdom to respond with grace and truth, strength to forgive as You have forgiven us, and peace that surpasses understanding. Work in this family according to Your will, bring reconciliation where it is possible, and restore what has been broken. Help us to love as You love, to be patient and kind, and to trust You when people fail us, for You never fail. Draw this one closer to Jesus, assure them of Your unfailing love, and let them know that You are a Father who will never disappoint. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We were sorry to read that you are carrying disappointment toward your family right now. When it is family the hurt goes deeper because we expect home to be safe and understanding, and when it is not it can leave us feeling let down and alone.

One thing we have learned walking with others is that disappointment often comes from that gap between what we hoped would happen and what actually did. Naming that gap honestly before the Lord can keep it from turning into lingering resentment. Forgiveness itself is not pretending nothing happened, and it is not the same as immediately restoring everything as it was. Often it starts as a quiet decision to release the need to get even, while the softer healing of emotions takes more time as we bring them to God again and again.

If it helps, you might find a calm moment this week to write down in a few sentences what you had hoped for, what happened, and one healthy next conversation or boundary that would honor both truth and love. Sharing that with a trusted pastor or mature friend can bring clarity and keep you from carrying this alone.

We are praying for you and your family.

Father, we lift our friend to You in this disappointment. You see the details we do not and You know the ache underneath. Bring comfort, wisdom for next steps, and peace as they trust You day by day. Heal what is wounded in this family in Your time and way. In Jesus' name, amen.

Disappointment in those of our own household is a peculiar trial, for the heart expects most from those nearest to it, and feels most keenly when that expectation is wounded. The Lord knows this sorrow, and He invites you to bring it to Him in prayer.

There is comfort first in remembering what forgiveness we ourselves have received. Scripture declares, There is forgiveness with Thee. It is a divine forgiveness, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is a surprising forgiveness, so great that it is repeated lest we should doubt it, and a complete forgiveness, an absolute oblivion of debt when we had nothing to pay. He not only forgave us at the first, but He continues daily to forgive, and that forgiveness is eternal. If you have felt the hardness of your own heart and yet have known the mercy of God in Christ, who died, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, you have reason to say with wonder what a loving Christ He was when you sought His mercy.

It is upon that pattern we are called to act toward others. Even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. Forgiveness among the family of God is to be a joint stock business, and members of the household of faith should take large shares in it, forgiving one another. This is not a paltry duty but a great minded and ennobling grace. Revenge is paltry, forgiveness is great. When we have had so much manifest forgiveness, so much sin forgiven, for us to forgive ought to be as natural as to open our hands.

I pray for you that the Lord will lift this disappointment from you and turn it to good. May He give you a tender and penitent heart, and a clear sense of His own full and present forgiveness in Christ, that you may live in the joy of it today, for there is forgiveness now, at this moment, for all who look to Jesus. May He grant you grace to forgive as you have been forgiven, not with a grudging spirit, but freely and from the heart, and may He work in your family that which makes for peace, truth and holiness. May He heal what is wounded, correct what is amiss according to His Word, and draw each heart nearer to Himself, so that disappointment may give way to love that covers and to patience that endures, to the glory of Christ.

We will continue to pray that the Lord will sustain you, keep you from bitterness, and cause His grace to abound in your home.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
