Difficulties 101 reading your ancient book known as the Bible

Faithful Servant
Difficulties 101 reading your ancient story book known as the Bible and upon flipping the pages I honestly want to sleep already cause I don't understand why must you do certain things which doesn't make sense in logical society. They said Bible is going to help but how does it help where I don't understand and there is just collecting dust in my cupboard.

We understand your frustration, and we are glad you have shared your heart with us. Many have struggled with reading the Bible, finding it difficult to understand or feeling that its teachings seem outdated or illogical in today’s world. But let us assure you, the Bible is not just an ancient book of stories—it is the living Word of God, sharper than any two-edged sword, able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). The issue is not with the Bible itself, but often with our own hearts and minds, which are influenced by a world that rejects the wisdom of God.

You mentioned that the Bible doesn’t make sense in "logical society," but we must ask: whose logic are we following? The wisdom of this world is foolishness to God, and His ways are higher than our ways (1 Corinthians 1:20, Isaiah 55:8-9). Society often promotes ideas that directly contradict Scripture—whether it’s about morality, relationships, purpose, or truth. The Bible is not meant to conform to the ever-changing standards of man; rather, it is the unchanging standard by which we are to live. If we approach it with humility, asking God to open our eyes to His truth, we will begin to see its relevance and power.

You also expressed that the Bible feels boring or irrelevant, causing you to want to sleep when reading it. This is a common struggle, but it often reveals a heart that has not yet encountered the Holy Spirit, who illuminates Scripture to us. Jesus said, *"The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life"* (John 6:63). Without the Spirit of God, the Bible will indeed feel like just another dusty book. But when we come to it with a sincere desire to know God, He meets us there. Ask Him to give you a hunger for His Word—because faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

Let us also address something critical: you did not mention the name of Jesus in your request. This is not a small matter. The Bible tells us that there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus Christ is the only way to God, the only bridge between our sin and His holiness. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Him, we urge you to do so. Without Christ, the Bible will remain a closed book to you, no matter how hard you try to understand it. But when you come to Him in faith, repenting of your sins and trusting in His death and resurrection, He will give you new eyes to see and ears to hear.

Now, let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we lift up this precious soul before You, asking that You would open their eyes to the truth of Your Word. Lord, so many struggle to see the relevance and power of Scripture because their hearts are hardened by the distractions and deceptions of this world. We ask that You would soften their heart, Lord, and give them a hunger for Your truth. Remove the veil that keeps them from understanding, and let the Holy Spirit illuminate Your Word to them as they read.

Father, if they do not yet know Jesus as their Savior, we pray that You would draw them to Him. Convict them of their need for a Redeemer, and help them to see that without Christ, the Bible will always feel like a dead book. But in Him, it becomes alive, active, and transformative. Give them the faith to believe, the humility to submit, and the perseverance to keep seeking You, even when understanding seems far off.

Lord, we rebuke the lies of the enemy that say Your Word is irrelevant or outdated. Your truth stands forever, and Your commands are for our good. Help them to see that Your ways are perfect, even when they don’t align with the world’s logic. Give them a teachable spirit, and surround them with believers who can guide them and encourage them in their walk with You.

We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who is the Word made flesh. May they come to know Him not just as a historical figure, but as their living Lord. Amen.

Finally, we encourage you to start small. Begin with the Gospel of John in the New Testament—it’s a great place to encounter Jesus and see who He is. Ask God to speak to you as you read, even if it’s just a verse or two at a time. Join a Bible-believing church or a small group where you can discuss what you’re learning. And most importantly, pray before you read, asking the Holy Spirit to teach you. The Bible is not just a book to be studied; it is a love letter from God to His people, and He wants to reveal Himself to you through it.

If you are willing, share with us: have you ever prayed to receive Jesus as your Savior? If not, we would be honored to guide you in that most important step. There is no greater help than knowing Him.

Hey there,

We're right there with you, feeling the struggle to understand and engage with the Bible. It's not just you, many of us have felt that way too. But let's remember, the Bible isn't just a historical document or a dust collector. It's a living, active book that has the power to transform our lives.

You mentioned that some things in the Bible don't make sense in today's society. Well, that's because God's ways are often different from the world's ways. In fact, the Bible tells us that God's thoughts are not our thoughts, nor are His ways our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). So, let's approach it with humility, asking God to help us understand His perspective.

We also hear you when you say it feels boring or irrelevant at times. That's where the Holy Spirit comes in. Jesus said, "The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life" (John 6:63). Without the Spirit's help, the Bible can feel dry and lifeless. But when we come to it with a sincere desire to know God, He meets us there and brings it to life.

Let's pray together, shall we? "Dear Lord, open our eyes to the truth of Your Word. Help us to understand it, not just intellectually, but in a way that transforms our hearts and lives. Give us a hunger for Your truth, and help us to see that Your ways are perfect, even when they don't align with the world's logic. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Now, why not start with the Gospel of John? It's a great place to encounter Jesus and understand who He is. And remember, it's okay to start small. Even just a verse or two a day can make a big difference.

If you're up for it, we'd love to hear if you've ever prayed to receive Jesus as your Savior. There's no greater help than knowing Him personally. If not, we'd be honored to guide you in that step.

Keep going, one step at a time. We're cheering you on!

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to thank you for sharing your heart with us and giving us the opportunity to lift you up in prayer as you seek to understand God’s Word. Reading the Bible can indeed feel overwhelming at times, especially when its teachings seem distant from our modern way of thinking. But we are so encouraged that you haven’t given up—you’re wrestling with it, and that’s a sign of a heart that truly wants to know Him.

We’ve been praying that God would open your eyes to the beauty and relevance of His Word, not as an ancient rulebook, but as a living message of His love, wisdom, and purpose for your life. The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is our Helper (John 14:26), and we’re trusting Him to guide you into deeper understanding—one verse, one truth at a time. Even when it feels dry or confusing, we pray that you’ll sense His presence drawing you closer, stirring in you a hunger that only He can satisfy.

If you’ve begun to see Scripture come alive in new ways—whether through a verse that speaks directly to your struggles, a fresh perspective, or even just a small spark of curiosity—we’d love to rejoice with you! Share your praise report so we can thank God together for how He’s moving in your heart. And if this journey is still feeling like an uphill battle, don’t hesitate to post again. We’re here to keep standing with you, asking God to replace frustration with revelation and weariness with hope.

May you encounter Him in unexpected ways as you seek Him, not just in the pages of His Word, but in the quiet moments of your day. He is near to those who earnestly search for Him (James 4:8), and we’re believing that your time in Scripture will become a place of connection, not confusion.

We continue to pray for you in Jesus’ name.
