Destroying Character

Disciple of Prayer
I applied for a position and I received not I have at least 20 individuals smearing my name because they didn't make the position. Unfortunately, I have to work with these individuals for at least 4-5 years. Lord I would like to pray that these individuals stop with smearing my name and also I pray they either fine another job or somehow is removed from my life and my sight. I pray in the name of Jesus.

We hear your pain and frustration as you face this unjust attack on your character. Being slandered by those who should be colleagues is a heavy burden to carry, especially when you must continue working alongside them. The Bible warns us that "a good name is more desirable than great riches" (Proverbs 22:1 WEB), and it grieves us that yours is being tarnished by envy and malice. We stand with you in this trial, trusting that God sees every false word spoken against you and will vindicate you in His perfect timing.

First, we must address the desire for these individuals to be removed from your life. While we understand the depth of your hurt, Scripture calls us to a higher standard: "Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who mistreat you" (Luke 6:28 WEB). This does not mean their behavior is acceptable, it is not, but we are commanded to respond with grace, even when it feels impossible. We rebuke the spirit of bitterness and unforgiveness that may take root in your heart, for it will only harm you further. Instead, we pray that God would soften your heart toward these individuals, that you may see them through His eyes, flawed, broken people in need of His love, just as we all are.

We also lift up the sin of slander and envy in their lives. The Bible is clear: "You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people" (Leviticus 19:16 WEB), and "where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there" (James 3:16 WEB). These individuals are operating under the influence of the enemy, who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10 WEB). We bind the spirit of division and strife in Jesus’ name and command it to leave your workplace. We declare that their words will have no power over you, for "no weapon that is formed against you will prevail" (Isaiah 54:17 WEB).

We pray for wisdom and strength for you as you navigate this difficult season. May you walk in integrity, letting your actions speak louder than their words. "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16 WEB). We ask God to give you favor with those in authority, that the truth of your character would be revealed to them. If there are any areas where you may have unintentionally given them reason to speak against you, we pray for conviction and repentance in those areas, that you may grow even through this trial.

Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who was also slandered and falsely accused. We ask You to be a shield around ###, protecting their reputation and their heart. Lord, we rebuke the lies of the enemy that seek to destroy their peace and their witness. We declare that their name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, and no weapon formed against them shall prosper. We pray for their colleagues, that their eyes would be opened to the truth, that their hearts would be softened, and that any seeds of envy or malice would be uprooted. If it is Your will, we ask that You would either change their hearts or remove them from ###’s path, but we trust in Your sovereignty and timing.

We also pray for ###’s emotional and spiritual well-being. Strengthen them when they are weary, comfort them when they are discouraged, and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7 WEB). Help them to forgive those who have wronged them, not because they deserve it, but because You have forgiven us so much more. May this trial refine them like gold, drawing them closer to You and making them more like Christ.

Lord, we ask that You would turn this situation around for Your glory. Let the very thing meant to harm ### be used to advance Your kingdom. May their response to this persecution be a testimony to Your grace, and may it lead others to You. We declare that their future is bright, their calling is sure, and their identity is found in Christ alone. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this with us. It’s exhausting and lonely when so many voices seem bent on tearing you down, and having to work alongside them for years only adds to the weight. Please know we don’t minimize that ache, it is real, and God is not indifferent to it.

One thing we can hold on to together: your character isn’t built on human opinion. God knows the whole truth, and He defends those who put their trust in Him. What others whisper or exaggerate cannot erase who you are in Christ or the good work He has given you to do. That doesn’t make the daily friction easy, but it can anchor your soul while He works.

We’d gently suggest you keep a simple, private record of specific incidents, dates, what was said, and any witnesses. This isn’t about nursing a grudge; it’s about having clarity if you ever need to bring the matter to a supervisor or a wise, impartial mentor who could help mediate or protect you. At the same time, let a small circle of trusted believers at church know what you’re facing so they can pray with you and speak words of life when the slander gets loud.

While we join you in asking God to stop this, we also ask Him to guard your heart from bitterness. That would only add a second wound.

Father, you see every hidden word and motive. We ask you to shield our friend’s good name, and in your perfect way either soften the hearts of those behind the slander or remove this trial. Grant steady peace, clear wisdom for each workday, and the confidence that their reputation rests safely in your hands. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Lord has chastened you sorely, even by the false tongues of those who see your advancement and cannot bear it. Do not think this trial has crept in by chance. Remember, troubles do not spring from the dust; the Lord Himself kindles the furnace and sits as a Refiner at the door. The false tongue is so ingenious in slander that it cuts to the quick, yet are we to believe this is not, in some sense, of the Lord? Assuredly we are! If it were not, then indeed it would be a matter for despair. But that which comes from the rod of our Father bears the blessed aspect of chastening, making even the sharpest smart profitable.

You have prayed that these individuals might be removed from your life and sight. I understand that cry of the heart, for our Lord Jesus Himself endured the contradiction of sinners against Himself. Yet consider this: what if the Lord intends to sanctify you through their presence rather than by their removal? Deliverance from the power of sin and from the sting of ill-treatment is as much a work of God as deliverance from the guilt of it. You must look to your heavenly Father altogether and alone. He may chasten you upon your bed, and the multitude of your bones with strong pain, but it is He who says, “Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.” That ransom is Christ, and His deliverance is not always an escape from the trial but a rescue from its destroying power.

Be content, then, to bear the slander. The higher the tower, the longer the shadow; often the higher a man’s character, the fouler the slander that comes against him. David was the song of the drunkard and the subject of shame all his days, yet he said, “My soul, wait thou only upon God, for my expectation is from him.” You are called to be God’s witness in this very place. A witness must be ready to bear cross-examination. When unbelieving men watch you, they observe whether your profession matches your conduct. If you reply to injury with bitterness or brood upon their removal, you damage your own case. But if you commit your cause to Him who judges righteously and go on your way with patience and peace, you will declare the works of the Lord to a gainsaying generation.

Do not fear that your name will be destroyed, for the Lord knows them that are His. He will not suffer the righteous to be moved. Pray for your accusers, bless them that curse you, and leave all vindication to the Advocate who pleads for you above. Perhaps the Lord will in time grant you deliverance from these archers of discord; He may remove them or give you a way of escape. But until then, count it all joy when you fall into divers trials, for the testing of your faith produces patience. And this is the believer’s song: “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” Your deliverance, when it comes, will be all of grace, so that no flesh may glory in His presence. Wait on Him, look to the ransom found in Jesus, and by the Spirit’s power, live as one already delivered from the pit.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You suffer now the poison of false accusation, and I perceive the ache of it in your words. Yet consider what truly occurs in such slander. It is not we that are injured by these, but they who are the authors of them. For the soul that sinneth, itself shall die, while the one who endures the evil without returning it has suffered no lasting wound. When enemies plot against you, they dig a pit for their own feet, even as they sharpen their tongues against your character. Give thanks to God in this trial, and the evil is transformed into good.

Why then do you pray for their removal from your life and your very sight? That is a prayer born of present pain, not of the mind of Christ. For He sat down at the right hand of God, expecting until His enemies be put under His feet, yet He did not demand their instant removal from the earth. Show yourself to be His disciple by bearing this affliction with patience. You must instead seek such a life of virtue that no blame can fasten upon you. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works. If your deeds are truly blameless, those who slander you will find their words empty, and even those outside will join in revering what they cannot truthfully attack.

The disease of envy has seized these twenty souls, and it is a grievous sickness. They toil to destroy your name because they themselves burned with desire for the position you gained. Such men are forever disquieted, pining away as they labor for that which passes to dust. Their false accusations and intrigues bring no true rest, for even if they should succeed in wounding you, they heap up for themselves an account before the Judge for every idle word. Spare them your curse and offer instead a prayer for their healing, for you harm yourself when you speak ill of them or wish them simply gone from your sight. The reward of the one who despises money and honor is already being freed from anxiety, rivalry, and plotting. Seek that crown now by refusing to let their malice shape your own soul.
