Disciple of Prayer
please pray people around me will stop being so difficult about my desires and ability to accomplish them

We hear your heart and understand the frustration you feel when others resist or dismiss the desires God has placed within you. It’s painful when those around us don’t see the vision or potential He has given us, especially when we’re seeking to walk in His will. But we want to remind you that your worth and purpose are not defined by the opinions of others—your identity is found in Christ alone.

First, let’s examine these desires closely. Are they aligned with God’s Word and His character? The Bible tells us in Psalm 37:4, *"Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart."* This doesn’t mean God is a genie granting wishes, but that when we delight in Him, our desires begin to reflect His heart. If your desires are rooted in His will—whether it’s a calling, a ministry, a godly ambition, or even a season of rest—then we can stand firm in the confidence that He will bring them to pass in His timing.

However, if there are areas where your desires may be out of alignment with Scripture—perhaps driven by pride, selfishness, or impatience—we encourage you to surrender those to the Lord. James 4:3 warns, *"You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures."* Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart and purify your motives, so that your desires are truly for His glory and not just your own comfort or recognition.

Now, about the people around you who are being difficult: it’s possible they are speaking out of fear, misunderstanding, or even their own unhealed wounds. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, *"A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."* Have you considered that their resistance might be an opportunity for you to respond with grace, wisdom, and humility? Sometimes, God uses opposition to refine our character and deepen our dependence on Him. Other times, He may be calling you to patiently persevere, trusting that He will open doors no one can shut (Revelation 3:8).

We also want to gently challenge you: are you seeking validation from people more than from God? Galatians 1:10 asks, *"For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? For if I were still pleasing men, I wouldn’t be a servant of Christ."* If your desire to accomplish these goals is rooted in a need for approval, it’s time to release that burden at the foot of the cross. God’s opinion of you is the only one that truly matters.

Let’s pray together:

*"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who gives us access to Your throne of grace. Lord, we lift up this dear one to You, knowing that You see their heart and the desires You’ve placed within them. We ask that You would align their desires with Yours, purifying any motives that are not of You. Give them wisdom to discern Your will and the courage to walk in it, even when others don’t understand.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of discouragement, doubt, and opposition that may be coming against them. We declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and that You will make their way straight (Proverbs 3:6). Where others have spoken words of limitation, we ask that You would replace those lies with Your truth. Remind them that they are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and that You have plans to prosper them and not to harm them (Jeremiah 29:11).

Lord, we also pray for the people around them who are being difficult. Soften their hearts, open their eyes to see Your hand at work, and help them to speak life rather than doubt. If there is any pride or selfishness in this situation, reveal it and bring repentance. Teach this one to respond with grace and humility, even in the face of opposition.

Above all, Father, we ask that You would be glorified in this situation. Whether You choose to fulfill these desires or redirect them, let Your will be done. Strengthen their faith to trust You, even when the path isn’t clear. We thank You for Your faithfulness, and we declare that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28).

In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen."*

We encourage you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). Surround yourself with believers who will speak truth and encouragement into your life, and don’t hesitate to seek godly counsel if you’re unsure about the direction of your desires. Remember, God’s timing is perfect, and He is never late. If He has placed a desire in your heart, He will equip you and make a way—but it may not look the way you expect. Trust Him, and don’t grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you *will* reap if you don’t faint (Galatians 6:9).

Lastly, if you haven’t already, we urge you to ensure that your relationship with Jesus is the foundation of your life. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. If you’ve never surrendered your life to Christ or would like to rededicate your heart to Him, we invite you to pray this simple prayer:

*"Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner in need of Your grace. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and rose again on the third day. I repent of my sins and ask You to come into my heart and be the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to follow You all the days of my life. Thank You for saving me. In Your name, I pray. Amen."*

If you prayed that prayer for the first time, we rejoice with you! We encourage you to find a Bible-believing church where you can grow in your faith and be discipled. The journey ahead is one of joy, purpose, and eternal significance.

We're right there with you, friend. It's tough when those around us don't see our vision or understand our desires, especially when we're trying to walk in God's will. But remember, your worth and purpose are not defined by their opinions. You are a child of God, fearfully and wonderfully made, and He has a plan for you.

Let's take a moment to align our hearts with His. In Psalm 37:4, we're told, "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart." This doesn't mean He's a genie granting wishes, but rather that when we delight in Him, our desires begin to reflect His heart. Let's respond with grace, wisdom, and humility, remembering that sometimes God uses opposition to refine our character and deepen our dependence on Him. As Proverbs 15:1 tells us, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Let's choose to be gentle, even in the face of opposition.
