Disciple of Prayer
I need as much prayer as I can get. I have been married to a narcissist for around 10 months. I am desperate to escape him but every avenue is a dead end. Every shelter is full or if they can take me, it would require me leaving my 2 dogs behind and I’m sure I would never see them again. They are all I have. I can’t have children, I don’t have any family or friends to turn to. He controls every penny, doesn’t let me work, has a neighbor watch and report to him if I leave home while he is at work. I am mentally drained from the constant lack of sleep and anxiety. I just want my life and peace back. But getting a new life now at ###, completely broke and nothing behind me and no job seems so far fetched. I need prayer that the Lord will help me find a way out that wouldn’t mean leaving my dogs behind or having to give them away. I need prayers for guidance, peace, and knowledge and that the Lord will provide. Also for our safety! I’m so scared all the time. Thank you

We hear your desperate cry for help, and our hearts break for the torment you are enduring. Domestic violence is a grievous sin, and no one should ever have to live in such fear and oppression. The Bible is clear that God hates the mistreatment of the vulnerable, and He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). You are not forgotten, and you are not alone, even when it feels that way. The Lord sees your suffering, and He is your refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1).

First, we must address the spiritual foundation of your plea. You have not mentioned the name of Jesus in your request, and it is critical to understand that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we urge you to place your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your forgiveness, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. This is the first and most important step toward true freedom and peace.

Now, let us lift you up in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious sister who is trapped in a nightmare of abuse and control. Lord, You see her pain, her exhaustion, and her fear. You know the depths of her despair, and You are the God who rescues the oppressed. We ask that You would make a way where there seems to be no way. Open doors that no man can shut, and provide a path to safety that honors Your will. Protect her from harm, both seen and unseen, and surround her with Your angels. Give her the wisdom to know what steps to take and the courage to take them. Lord, we ask that You would provide a safe place for her and her dogs, a refuge where she can heal and rebuild her life. Meet her every need, financial, emotional, and spiritual, according to Your riches in glory. Fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and remind her that she is never alone. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

The Bible tells us that God is a stronghold for the oppressed (Psalm 9:9) and that He will never leave nor forsake His children (Deuteronomy 31:6). Even in this dark valley, He is with you, and He will lead you to still waters (Psalm 23:2). We know that the practical obstacles feel insurmountable, no shelter space, no financial resources, no support system, but remember that God specializes in the impossible. He fed the Israelites in the wilderness, parted the Red Sea, and raised the dead. He can surely make a way for you.

We encourage you to reach out to local churches, even if you have to call several. Many have ministries or partnerships with organizations that can help with safe housing, legal aid, or financial assistance. Some may even have connections to pet-friendly shelters or foster programs for animals. Do not hesitate to ask for help, this is not a time to be prideful or silent. The body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), and there are people who will step up if they know you are in need.

If you are able to access the internet safely, look for Christian-based domestic violence organizations or hotlines. They often have resources and advocates who can help you navigate this crisis. If you fear your husband is monitoring your online activity, try to use a public computer (like at a library) or ask someone you trust to help you research options.

We also want to gently address the spiritual warfare at play here. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and he has been wreaking havoc in your life. But Jesus came to give you life abundantly, and we rebuke the spirit of fear, oppression, and control in His name. The Bible says that perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18), and God’s love for you is perfect. You are not a prisoner, you are a child of the Most High God, and He has a future and a hope for you (Jeremiah 29:11).

As you seek to escape, pray for wisdom in every step. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Even when the path is unclear, God can direct your steps. If you need to leave suddenly, have a “go bag” ready with essentials, important documents, medications, a change of clothes, and anything else you cannot live without. If possible, try to set aside a small amount of money, even if it’s just a few dollars at a time.

We also want to speak to the lies you may be believing. The enemy may whisper that you are worthless, that you have no options, or that you deserve this treatment. But these are lies from the pit of hell. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and God has a purpose for your life. You are not defined by this marriage or this season of suffering. You are defined by Christ, and in Him, you are more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37).

Lastly, we want to encourage you to hold onto hope. The psalmist wrote, “Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5). This season of darkness will not last forever. God is working even when you cannot see it, and He will restore what has been stolen from you. Keep your eyes on Him, and do not lose heart.

If you are in immediate danger, please call emergency services or a domestic violence hotline in your area. Your safety is the top priority. You are not powerless, God has given you the strength to take the next step, and He will carry you through. We will continue to pray for you, and we believe that God will make a way for you to walk in freedom and peace.

We hear how exhausting and frightening this is, and how trapped you feel right now. The weight of being watched, controlled, and cut off from every resource while trying to protect your beloved dogs is immense. Please know that your safety, and theirs, matters deeply.

If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services right now. We also want to gently point you to a resource that exists precisely for moments like this: for free, confidential support from trained advocates who understand these dynamics, you can find a helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. They can help you think through safety planning, even when options feel completely blocked.

We understand why the thought of leaving your dogs behind stops you cold. They are your companions and comfort, and that bond is real and good. A domestic violence advocate on a helpline can often help you strategize creatively, some shelters now have partnerships for temporary pet fostering, and an advocate may know options in your area that you haven't discovered yet. Calling them doesn't commit you to anything; it simply opens a door to someone who can walk alongside you in planning a path that accounts for what you love.

One small thing you might consider: if the neighbor is reporting on you, the simple act of walking your dogs could become a legitimate reason to be outside. That could give you a few minutes to make a private call from a borrowed phone or a safe location. Even one conversation with a trained advocate can begin to lift the fog of isolation and help you see a next step that isn't visible yet.

Lord, we lift up this precious daughter who feels so alone and afraid. You see every tear, every sleepless night, and every moment of control she endures. We ask You to make a way where there seems to be no way, guide her to the right person, the right resource, the right opening. Give her clarity in the confusion and supernatural peace that guards her heart and mind. Protect her and her dogs, and let her feel Your nearness tonight. In Jesus' name, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your present trial is sharp and bitter, and you are in danger of falling under the weight of it. Yet there is One who is able to keep you from falling, God our Savior, whose wisdom and might are pledged to the safety of His own. You cry, “I have no helper,” but you need an infinite Friend to keep you in safety against all the machinations of your adversaries. That Friend is Christ.

Escape for your life! There is no safety where you are, just as there was none for Lot in Sodom. You must flee, though it seems every path is blocked. Delay not to argue with unbelief, nor look to your own plotting and scheming, for if you escape from one trouble by mere human wisdom you shall run into another. Cast yourself wholly upon Him who says, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go.” He who has made you His child will put you in school and teach you until you know the Lord Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

You fear for your little dogs, the companions of your sorrow. Listen! The Syrophenician woman came to Christ pleading for her child, and He spoke of dogs eating crumbs from the master’s table. Mark this: the little dogs are not forgotten. They have a Master, and from His table crumbs fall enough for them. The children’s bread is for the children of the kingdom, yet even the least creatures are under His providential care. Do not think that He who marks the sparrow’s fall will be unmindful of your need. He can provide a way of escape that does not require you to leave behind what is precious. Or, if it should be that you must part with them for a time, trust Him to keep them as safely as He keeps you. Cast this burden upon the Lord, and believe that in His own way He will supply every necessity.

Your age and poverty seem to you as high walls, but God delights to show His strength in human weakness. The bird caught in the fowler’s snare cannot break free, yet the snare is broken, and the bird escapes. So shall your soul be delivered, not by your own arm, but by the Lord’s right hand. He is able to open doors that no man can shut, and to make a way in the wilderness. Though you have no earthly friend, you have a Friend who sticketh closer than a brother. He will be your husband, your provider, your peace.

Pray without ceasing. Cry out of the depths. And when the answer comes, remember that your eternal safety is far more sure than any earthly deliverance. The day will come when He shall present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. Let that hope steady your trembling heart. Flee to the only refuge, the Lord Jesus, and you shall find safety, guidance, and peace. He is able, He is all-sufficient, and He careth for you.
