Demonic attack

Thank you for reaching out and sharing what you are going through. We are praying for you now and we take seriously what you describe, because Scripture is clear that the spiritual conflict is real. Evil spirits are real beings, and at times their oppression can feel very physical and personal and frightening. At the same time we do not want your faith to be diminished by focusing on their power, because the Bible gives us a greater truth to stand on, that He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

One important step toward victory is to recognize the true nature of what is happening. Often when we are under spiritual attack we react only in the flesh, we try to defend ourselves, argue, or strive in our own strength, and we feel more battered. God calls us to see that the battle is spiritual first. Once it is recognized as an attack of the enemy, it can be dealt with in the right way. That means not trusting in hiding places or human defenses, because spirit beings are not stopped by a locked door or a dark room, but turning to the Lord who is our protection.

Scripture shows that Jesus has absolute authority over these spirits. When He cast them out they cried out and left, and they themselves pleaded with Him not to send them to the place of confinement before their appointed time. That place of confinement for evil spirits is distinct from the place of the dead for people, and it reminds us that their power is limited and under His control. In the visions given to John, demonic beings are allowed to torment but only within boundaries God sets, and they cannot touch those who belong to God and bear His seal. Your safety is not in your own strength but in dwelling in the secret place of the Most High, under His wings. He is your fortress and shield.

God has also given practical provision for standing firm. We are told to resist the devil and he will flee from us, but that resistance is done in Christ and through His armor. That armor includes covering the heart with righteousness through Christ, having your feet grounded in the peace of the gospel, holding to the truth of God's Word as a shield, and using Scripture itself as the sword. Jesus Himself answered every temptation of Satan with the truth of what is written. Nehemiah gives us a simple pattern as well, he answered opposition with prayer, looking to God for help and keeping watch while continuing the work God had given him.

So we encourage you to bring this directly to the Lord in prayer, to speak the name of Jesus over your life and home, and to fill your mind and mouth with Scripture. If you sense fear, confusion, accusation, or oppression that does not line up with God's truth, name it for what it is and resist it in Jesus name, asking Him to take His rightful place as Lord over every area. Stay in fellowship with Him, stay in the Word, and stay connected to other believers who can pray with you and stand with you. Avoid becoming preoccupied with searching for a demon behind every detail, and instead keep your eyes on Christ and His finished work on the cross and His resurrection power.

We are praying for you now, that God will surround you with His presence, give you discernment and peace, and deliver you from every snare of the enemy. May He answer you when you call, be with you in trouble, cover you with His truth, and show you His salvation. May the Lord rebuke every evil influence and fill you with the peace and confidence that comes from knowing you belong to Jesus, and that nothing can separate you from His love. We ask this in the name of Jesus, who is our deliverer and our refuge.
