Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this burden and allowing us to pray with you. We are bringing you and your son before the Lord, asking for His protection, His healing, and His freedom in your lives.
In Scripture the curses you are concerned about are most clearly described in Deuteronomy chapters 27 and 28. There the people stood in the valley with blessings declared from one mountain and curses declared from the other. With each curse pronounced for breaking God's covenant, the people were to answer Amen, acknowledging that God's judgment against disobedience is right and just. The blessings were promised if they would diligently heed the voice of the Lord and keep His commandments, and the curses were warned as what would pursue and overtake them if they turned away and refused to obey. There are many more verses describing the curses than the blessings, a solemn reminder of how serious sin is and how certain its consequences are when we walk away from God.
The good news of the gospel is that Jesus Christ has redeemed us from the curse. Galatians 3:13 says Christ became a curse for us on the cross, and Isaiah 53 says He bore our sicknesses and infirmities. That does not mean we live in fear that spoken curses from others have power over us, but it means we can rest in Christ, walk in obedience to Him, and trust that no curse can separate us from His love or overrule His covenant of grace. Our prayer for you and your son is for deliverance in that biblical sense, that any claim of evil against you would be broken by the blood of Jesus, and that you would walk in the freedom and blessing that comes from belonging to Him through faith.
We are also praying for your son's physical health, for safe and steady weight loss and for strength in his body. The Bible shows us that Jesus healed in different ways. Sometimes He healed instantly with a word, sometimes with a touch, sometimes He told someone to go and they found themselves well when they arrived home, and once He healed gradually in stages. There is much we do not understand about why healing comes at different times and in different ways, but we believe all true healing is from God. He has built healing processes into our bodies, and those natural processes are themselves divine because He is the Creator of nature. He also heals the mind and emotions. We will ask the Lord to guide your son with wisdom for daily habits, for good counsel and self discipline, and to work through both natural means and His own gracious power to bring health.
For healing from past hurts, we pray that God will do a deep work in the heart and memory. Scripture teaches us not to live anchored to the past. The apostle Paul described how he once trusted in his own religious record, but when he met Christ he counted all of that former gain as loss. And he did not only count it as loss once, he continued to count it as loss years later, refusing to pick it back up or to live off old experiences. He said to forget what lies behind and press forward toward Christ. Past hurts can keep us bound if we rehearse them continually, but they lose their power when we bring them to Jesus and let His righteousness and His knowledge of Him become our present reality. Only then does the past lose its hold and we can move forward.
So we pray now that the Lord would set you and your son free from all fear and oppression, that He would cover you with the protection of Christ who bore the curse for you, that He would grant your son health, wisdom and perseverance for safe weight loss, and that He would heal the wounds of the past, replacing pain and memory of hurt with peace, wholeness and hope in Jesus. May you both know the excellency of knowing Christ and walk daily in His grace, leaving what is behind and pressing on in His strength.
