Your prayer has been brought before the Lord and we join our hearts with yours in seeking His mercy for this man.
There is a higher restoration than any outward deliverance, and that is deliverance of the soul from sin and from going down to the Pit. The word of the Lord is, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, I have found a ransom. That ransom is not forms or ceremonies or feelings or good resolves, but what Christ has done upon the cross. When a soul looks to Christ and trusts in His one great sacrifice, sin is seen punished upon the great Substitute and put away forever from all who will only trust Him. This is the argument of love upon which God delivers, that He has found a ransom in the precious blood of His Son.
We pray with you that the Lord will open the ears of this man and seal instruction upon him, as He does in the night season to withdraw man from his purpose and hide pride from him. We ask that God will break the stony heart and give a heart of flesh, that He will give true understanding of identity in Christ, not in the false identities which sin suggests, and courage to follow the narrow path which leads unto life. For it is written, He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. Deliverance from the guilt of sin and deliverance from the power of sin are both the work of God alone, and must be sought from our heavenly Father altogether and alone through faith in Jesus Christ.
We do not ask the Lord to bless what is sinful, for He cannot bless what He calls us to forsake. Rather we ask Him to deliver this man from every chain that binds him, from every ungodly influence and from every relationship which is outside His holy will. The way of life is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman within marriage, and all that lies outside it is not for our good. We pray that he may see clearly the sinful and hateful nature of what has entangled him, where he is controlled and oppressed, and that he may be brought to fear the holy name of the Lord and to depart from evil. May the Lord separate him from those who would lead him further astray, even in his own household, and keep him in safety according to His wise providence. Though enemies may mean malice, our gracious God can use even chastening in love to the soul that He may not fall.
We pray that he will look not to himself but to what Christ has done, that he will trust in the blood which alone can save, and that being rescued he will magnify the Lord and dedicate himself anew to his delivering God. May Christ who was bound set this captive free, for when Christ was bound His people were made free indeed.
We will continue to remember you both before the throne of grace, that you may have wisdom and steadfastness, and that he may come to know that neither death nor life can separate from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord, when a soul is truly resting upon Him.
O Lord, deliver him from going down to the Pit, for Thou hast found a ransom in Thy Son. Open his eyes, soften his heart, deliver him from the power of darkness, and translate him into the kingdom of Christ, that he may walk in newness of life to Thy glory. We ask this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ our only Savior, amen.
