Deliverance prayer for the former ###

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the cross and for the fact that your holy Son, Jesus, suffered for all of us who believe. We praise your holy name. Lord, you know the plans you have for us, and your thoughts are far greater than ours. We come to you together in the name of Jesus, believing that you hear our prayers when we agree. Lord, you know this man who rented his flat to me, and he is also your child. Lord, help him to hear your voice concerning your holy plan for his life. Help him to see the clear, unmistakable truth about his identity in Christ. Open his eyes to the false identity he adopted when he entered into sinful relationships or activities and strayed from your narrow path and followed his own desires. Lord break his stony heart and give him courage to follow the narrow path and soften his heart for your glory. I also pray that you will separate him from ungodly influences, including those in his household, and that he will recognise the depth of your love, as well as the sinful and hateful relationships he has entered into, in which he is controlled, blackmailed, and where his life may be in danger. Give him understanding to fear your Holy name. Lord, give him understanding to depart from evil and the evil woman in his life. In Jesus' powerful name we ask these things, amen.

We join with you in this deliverance prayer and we agree together in the name of Jesus, believing that He hears us when we come into agreement according to Matthew 18:19.

We thank God with you for the cross and for His holy Son Jesus who suffered for all who believe, and we praise His holy name. We are encouraged by your intercession for this man who rented his flat to you, for it shows the love of Christ to pray for one who may be bound and in danger. We know that our Father knows the plans He has for him, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give him hope and a future as promised in Jeremiah 29:11, and His thoughts are far greater than ours.

We lift this man before the Lord and ask for the full revelation of his true identity in Christ. The Word tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. When he entered into sinful relationships and followed his own desires he took on a false identity, but we pray that the eyes of his heart would be opened to see that lie for what it is. Any sexual relationship outside of the lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman is fornication or adultery before God, and we are commanded in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality. This is not to condemn him but to call him to freedom, for every such sin is against his own body which is meant to be a temple of the Holy Spirit. We pray he will see the depth of God's love which is greater than that sin and that he will turn from it.

We pray with you that God would take away his stony heart and give him a heart of flesh according to Ezekiel 36:26, that He would soften his heart for His glory and give him courage to follow the narrow path. Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14 to enter in by the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it. How narrow is the gate and restricted is the way that leads to life, and few are those who find it. We ask that God would give him holy courage and that perfect love would cast out fear, for God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control as we read in 2 Timothy 1:7.

We also agree with you for his separation from ungodly influences, including those in his household, for we are warned in 1 Corinthians 15:33 that evil companionships corrupt good morals and in 2 Corinthians 6:17 we are told to come out from among them and be separate and touch no unclean thing. We pray he will recognize the sinful and hateful nature of relationships where he is controlled and blackmailed and where his life may be in danger, and that he will be given understanding to depart from evil and from the evil woman in his life who is leading him astray. The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding according to Proverbs 9:10, so we ask God to grant him that holy fear which leads to life. We pray for his protection, for Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart and saves those who have a crushed spirit in Psalm 34:18, and that he would be subject to God and resist the devil so that the devil will flee from him as promised in James 4:7. We declare that if the Son makes him free, he will be free indeed according to John 8:36.

We pray together now, Father, we come before Your throne of grace in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your holy Son, and we thank You for the cross and the blood that was shed for us. Lord, You know this man, You formed him and You love him and You have a holy plan for his life. We ask that You break through the darkness that surrounds him, open his eyes to see his true identity as Your child and as a new creation in Christ, and expose the false identity built on sin and the desires of the flesh. Lord, break his stony heart and give him a new heart and a new spirit, soften him and give him courage to choose the narrow path that leads to life. Give him understanding to fear Your holy name and to depart from evil, to flee all sexual immorality and to turn away completely from the evil woman and from every ungodly influence in his household and wherever he is controlled, manipulated and blackmailed. Separate him for Yourself, Lord, set a hedge of protection around him where his life is in danger, deliver him from every trap and from every chain, and let him experience the depth of Your love and forgiveness. Draw him to repentance, to a godly sorrow that leads to salvation, and if it is Your will, lead him in the future to a godly marriage that honors You, a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman that reflects Christ and the church. We ask that You set him free indeed by the power of Jesus, and that he would walk in freedom, holiness and peace for Your glory. In Jesus' powerful and holy name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to stand in the gap for him with steadfast prayer and to speak the truth in love if God gives you opportunity, remembering that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces, and that the weapons of our warfare are mighty in God. We trust that God who began a good work will be faithful to complete it as this man is drawn to the light of Christ.

We hear the burden you are carrying for this man and we are thankful you have brought him before the Lord with such care. It is not light to pray for someone you have lived near, to see him struggling with who he is and to be worried for his safety when you sense he is being controlled and pressured by others in his home.

We join you in asking God to make His voice clear to him and to rebuild his sense of who he is around Christ. That kind of identity is steadier in turbulent times because it rests on being loved and formed by God, not on what he has done or what others demand from him. As that takes root, a person can better hear God's call and find courage to step away from what harms him and toward what is good, living before the Audience of One rather than for the approval of people around him.

A steady way to love him well is to keep your intercession faithful while keeping healthy boundaries as a former tenant. You cannot soften his heart or separate him from harmful influences by your own effort, but you can keep entrusting him to God. If you have real concern that he is being blackmailed or is in danger, gently encourage him to seek wise, safe help from a trusted pastor or counselor, and keep yourself at a safe distance as you pray.

Father, we lift this man to You. Soften his heart where it has grown hard, open his eyes to the depth of Your love, and give him wisdom to turn from what is destroying him. Give him courage to walk the narrow path, keep him safe from control and threat, place godly influences around him, and give our friend peace and wisdom as he continues to pray. We join you in bringing this man before the throne of grace, and we thank you for the love that moves you to pray for his soul rather than to speak lightly of his sin.

Your prayer rightly asks not that God would bless what is sinful, but that He would deliver from it, and this is the very heart of the gospel. There is a repentance that gives no glory to God and leads to no lasting deliverance from sin, a poor and short lived sorrow which turns away for a time and then goes back with greater gusto. It is fallen nature washed and brushed, but still fallen nature, the heart not renewed, the life not regenerated. What we must seek for this man is not that kind of repentance, but repentance unto life, which is a hatred of sin and a turning from sin and a determination in the strength of God to forsake it. Such repentance is practical and lasting, and it yields works meet for repentance, and it is inseparable from faith, for the repentance which ejects sin as an evil tenant is joined to the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart.

We pray with you that the Lord who kindles the fiery furnace and sits as a Refiner at the door would use even these troubles as chastening from a Father's hand. Troubles do not spring out of the dust, and affliction is not by chance. When the Lord chastens sorely, it is that we may hear His voice and live and declare the works of the Lord.

Our hope for this man, as for ourselves, is not in his own resolve but in the ransom which God Himself has found. Job declares, Then He is gracious unto him, and says, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, I have found a ransom. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance of a sinner from the pit through a ransom if God had not thought of it. The prisoner is ready to be executed, but there comes undeserved deliverance, for the King's own Son has borne the penalty of all his iniquities. We ask the Lord to show him that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, that by His cross and His blood there is forgiveness, and that to be delivered from the guilt of sin he must look to Christ by faith.

And we ask also for that other deliverance which is as much the work of God, deliverance from the power of sin. The apostle says He has delivered us from the power of darkness. This is not merely to be helped to keep away from some conspicuous sin, but to be taught the mischief that comes from loving the world and to be loosed from the fascinating power of sin itself. We pray that God would deliver him from the power of darkness, from every false identity adopted when he strayed from the narrow path and followed his own desires, and bring him into a true knowledge of who he is in Christ, as a new creature made in righteousness.

We agree with you in asking that the Lord would break the stony heart and give a heart of flesh, that He would give understanding to fear His holy name and to depart from evil, that He would separate him from ungodly influences, even those in his own household, and from every controlling and hateful entanglement where his life may be in danger. The Scriptures teach that marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that the intimate union of life and body belongs within that covenant alone. Any path outside it is not love but bondage, and we pray he may see it so and flee from it, not by mere human effort, but by the gracious power of God who alone can keep back his soul from the Pit.

Let us pray together: Heavenly Father, Thou art gracious and Thou hast found a ransom in Thy Son. Look upon this man for whom we intercede. Grant him true repentance and living faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Deliver him from going down to the Pit. Deliver him from the power of darkness and from every evil influence that would hold him. Soften his heart, open his eyes to the truth of Thy word concerning sin and holiness, and lead him in the narrow way that leads unto life. Keep him from returning to sin, and make him to live and to declare Thy works. This we ask in the powerful name of Jesus Christ our only Saviour, Amen.

Continue to plead for him, and to point him, as God gives opportunity, to Christ who alone can save and keep.
