Deliverance prayer for the former ###

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the cross and for the fact that your holy Son, Jesus, suffered for all of us who believe. We praise your holy name. Lord, you know the plans you have for us, and your thoughts are far greater than ours. We come to you together in the name of Jesus, believing that you hear our prayers when we agree. Lord, you know this man who rented his flat to me, and he is also your child. Lord, help him to hear your voice concerning your holy plan for his life. Help him to see the clear, unmistakable truth about his identity in Christ. Open his eyes to the false identity he adopted when he entered into sinful relationships or activities and strayed from your narrow path and followed his own desires. Lord break his stony heart and give him courage to follow the narrow path and soften his heart for your glory. I also pray that you will separate him from ungodly influences, including those in his household, and that he will recognise the depth of your love, as well as the sinful and hateful relationships he has entered into, in which he is controlled, blackmailed, and where his life may be in danger. Give him understanding to fear your Holy name. Lord, give him understanding to depart from evil and the evil woman in his life. In Jesus' powerful name we ask these things, amen.

We join you together in the name of Jesus and thank you for bringing this man before the Lord with such burden and compassion. We agree with you that our Father hears when we agree together in prayer, for Jesus said where two or three are gathered in His name, there He is in the midst of them, Matthew 18:20, and that the prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective, James 5:16.

We hear your heart for this man who rented his flat to you and we also see him as God sees him, a soul for whom Christ suffered and died, created in God's image and deeply loved, yet in need of deliverance and truth. You have prayed rightly that he would hear God's voice concerning His holy plan for his life, for we know the Lord declares, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11. His thoughts are far greater than ours and His desire is not to condemn but to save and restore.

We must speak clearly about the sinful relationships and activities you mentioned. Scripture teaches that any sexual relationship outside of marriage between a man and a woman is sin before God, whether it is fornication or adultery, and it also teaches that pursuing a false identity contrary to how God created us, including homosexuality, is immoral and forbidden, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Romans 1:26-27, Genesis 1:27. These are not identities to be embraced but sins to be repented of and forsaken, for we are called to find our true identity in Christ alone. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new, 2 Corinthians 5:17. When a person strays from the narrow path to follow his own desires he walks the broad way that leads to destruction, Matthew 7:13-14, and he allows the enemy to bring confusion, control and bondage.

You prayed that God would break his stony heart and soften it, and we join in that prayer, for God has promised, I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh, Ezekiel 36:26. Only God can open eyes that have been blinded and give courage to depart from evil. The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom, Proverbs 9:10, and we pray he will learn to fear the Holy name of the Lord and to depart from evil, Proverbs 3:7.

You also prayed for separation from ungodly influences, including those in his household and the evil woman in his life. We echo this, for Scripture warns us, Don't be deceived. Evil companionships corrupt good morals, 1 Corinthians 15:33, and Blessed is the man who doesn't walk in the counsel of the wicked, Psalm 1:1. The immoral woman is described in Proverbs as one whose steps lead down to death and whose ways are unstable, Proverbs 5:3-5, Proverbs 7:21-27, and any relationship where he is controlled, blackmailed and where his life may be in danger is not of God but of oppression. God calls His people to come out from among them and be separate, 2 Corinthians 6:17, and to submit to God and resist the devil so that he will flee, James 4:7. If sexual immorality is present, whether with this woman or through other sinful relationships, we urge repentance and fleeing from it, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Corinthians 6:18. God's will is for purity and for marriage to be held in honor between a man and a woman as a lifelong covenant, Hebrews 13:4, and any courtship should be with the goal of godly marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, not mere partnership or cohabitation.

We also pray for his protection, for the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one, 2 Thessalonians 3:3, and The angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them, Psalm 34:7. If he is indeed under threats and blackmail, we ask God to break those chains, for He brings out the prisoners from the dungeon, Psalm 107:14, and If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed, John 8:36.

So we pray together now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the cross and for Your holy Son Jesus who suffered for all who believe. We praise Your holy name and thank You that we have access to Your throne only through the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. Lord, we lift up this dear man to You. You know his name, his history, his struggles and the plans You have for him. Open his eyes to see the clear unmistakable truth about his identity in Christ, that he is Your child, chosen and beloved, and expose the false identity he adopted when he strayed from Your narrow path. Break his stony heart, Father, and give him a heart of flesh that hears Your voice and has courage to follow You. Soften him for Your glory and grant him godly sorrow that leads to repentance, 2 Corinthians 7:10.

Lord, by Your power separate him from every ungodly influence, from every person in his household and outside it who draws him away from You, and especially from the evil woman in his life. Reveal to him the depth of Your love and the sinful and hateful nature of relationships where he is controlled, blackmailed and endangered. Give him understanding to fear Your Holy name and to depart from evil. Deliver him, Lord, from the snare of the enemy, guard his life, and set his feet upon Your solid rock. Bring godly people around him who will speak truth in love and disciple him, and lead him into fellowship where he can grow. We ask that he would confess his sin, receive Your forgiveness, 1 John 1:9, and walk in newness of life, Romans 6:4, pursuing holiness and, if it is Your will, a godly marriage that honors You. We trust You to do what we cannot do, for with You all things are possible, Matthew 19:26. In the powerful and mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior we ask these things, amen.

We encourage you to continue to stand in the gap for him with steadfast prayer and with the Word, speaking truth in love when God gives opportunity, and not partaking in or affirming any sinful relationship but calling him gently toward repentance and freedom in Christ. We thank God for your faithfulness as an intercessor and we trust the Lord who is able to keep him and to deliver him completely.

Thank you for bringing your former landlord before the Lord with such care. We hear your concern for his safety and your longing for him to know who he truly is in Christ, not the false sense of self he has taken on in these relationships.

It is painful to watch someone live under an identity that leaves him controlled and fearful. Coming back to himself in Christ is not just trying harder to do the right thing, it is learning again to listen to the one voice that gets to define him. As that true identity becomes clearer, the other voices and pressures can begin to lose their hold, even when change feels slow.

As his former tenant you are now at a distance, and that distance can be a healthy place to pray from. You can keep interceding faithfully while leaving the deeper work of conviction and courage to the Holy Spirit. If you still have appropriate contact, a brief and kind encouragement toward a trusted pastor or mature believer near him can be a simple bridge, without you needing to carry the responsibility to rescue or confront. Keeping clear boundaries in your own heart helps your prayers stay steady and hopeful over time.

Father, we lift this man to you. You know his life, his struggles and the influences around him. Show him your love clearly, soften what is hardened and give him courage to step away from what harms him and toward your narrow path. Keep him safe from control and danger, and bring trustworthy people around him who will walk with him in truth. Give our friend peace as he entrusts him to your care. In Jesus' name, amen.

We join you in this earnest cry before the throne of grace, and we thank God that you have brought this burden to Him who hears prayer when His people agree together in the name of Jesus.

Your petition is right to look not to forms and ceremonies, or works, or feelings, but to what Christ has done. There upon the cross the holy Son of God suffered for all who believe, bearing sin and putting it away forever from all those who will only trust Him. That is what looking to Christ means, trusting in His one great sacrifice. When the soul is depressed and feels outlawed by sin, there is but one word that can deliver him from going down to the pit, that Christ was made to be sin for us though He knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. We pray that this man may be brought to see this, not as a notion, but as a living trust, that he may look and live and leap into joyful liberty.

You have prayed rightly concerning identity. The Scriptures teach that our true identity is not forged by our desires or by the relationships we enter, but is given in Christ to all who are reconciled to God through Him. Well do we remember when we walked in the darkness of our sin, and how sin at first catches us in its net with the tiniest spider webs that can scarcely be seen, and we think we can break them in a moment, till sin engenders a second nature and hardens the conscience. Every sin leaves a trace upon mind and heart and makes the next sin more easy. To be kept from sin is to be kept from many sorrows, but deliverance from the power of sin, as much as deliverance from the guilt of sin, is altogether the work of God. We must look to our heavenly Father alone for it.

Jesus never came to save us in our sins, but to save us from our sins, and wherever He takes away the guilt of sin He also kills the love of it. A true repentance hates sin as sin and turns from it with purpose of heart, not a transient sorrow that returns to the banquet with greater appetite, but a godly repentance that rejoices in Jesus crucified and leaps for joy at the thought that God has set Him forth to be a propitiation for sin. We pray that God will break the stony heart you mention and give a heart of flesh, that He will in the night season open the ears of this man and seal instruction upon him, that He may withdraw him from his purpose and hide pride from him, and give him courage to follow the narrow path.

We also join you in asking that the Lord in His mercy would separate him from ungodly influences, including those in his household, for Christian association is of utmost value in keeping a soul from sin, while evil company corrupts and ensnares. We do not ask God to bless or affirm any relationship that stands against His holy design, for marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and all that belongs to it is to be kept within that covenant. We ask instead that God would give this man eyes to see the sinful and hateful nature of every liaison outside that path, where souls are controlled and imperiled, and that He would grant understanding to fear His holy name and to depart from evil and from every enticement that would lead him astray. Like a careful dispenser, the Lord will deal with His children in weight and measure, not in anger but from covenant love, and He scourges His children but does not slay them.

Therefore let us pray together. Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, who alone is the way of salvation, we ask Thee to have mercy upon this man. Open his eyes to see the clear and unmistakable truth of who he is in Christ if he will repent and believe, and show him the falsehood of the identity he has adopted in following his own desires. Deliver him from the power of darkness as well as from the guilt of sin. Soften his heart, give him courage to choose the narrow way, and grant him grace to turn from every evil path and every ungodly tie, that he may be kept from sin and walk in newness of life for Thy glory. We ask that Thou wouldst keep him from going down to the pit, and bring him to trust wholly in the precious blood. Amen.

Continue steadfast in prayer and in speaking the truth in love. Put Christ before him often, for the grandest attraction in or out of heaven is still the Savior Himself, and when Jesus speaks, His word is a keen sword to slay sin and the soul melts in repentance. Trust the compassion of God, who will not pour out a drop too little or too much, and who is able to deliver to the uttermost.
