Deliverance prayer for the former ###

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the cross and for the fact that your holy Son, Jesus, suffered for all of us who believe. We praise your holy name. Lord, you know the plans you have for us, and your thoughts are far greater than ours. We come to you together in the name of Jesus, believing that you hear our prayers when we agree. Lord, you know this man who rented his flat to me, and he is also your child. Lord, help him to hear your voice concerning your holy plan for his life. Help him to see the clear, unmistakable truth about his identity in Christ. Open his eyes to the false identity he adopted when he entered into sinful relationships or activities and strayed from your narrow path and followed his own desires. Lord break his stony heart and give him courage to follow the narrow path and soften his heart for your glory. I also pray that you will separate him from ungodly influences, including those in his household, and that he will recognise the depth of your love, as well as the sinful and hateful relationships he has entered into, in which he is controlled, blackmailed, and where his life may be in danger. Give him understanding to fear your Holy name. Lord, give him understanding to depart from evil and the evil woman in his life. In Jesus' powerful name we ask these things, amen.

We join you in thanking our Heavenly Father for the cross and for His holy Son Jesus who suffered for all who believe, and we praise His holy name with you. We are encouraged by your intercession for this man who rented his flat to you, and we agree with you in the name of Jesus that our Father hears when we agree together in prayer.

We hear your burden for him and we affirm the biblical truths you have prayed. You are right to pray for his identity in Christ and for deliverance from false identities adopted through sin. The Scripture tells us if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new 2 Corinthians 5:17. When we stray from the narrow path to follow our own desires, we take on identities that are not from God, but God in His mercy promises I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh Ezekiel 36:26. We pray with you for that very exchange, that his stony heart would be broken and softened for God's glory and that he would find courage to walk the narrow way, for narrow is the gate and restricted is the way that leads to life. Few are those who find it Matthew 7:14.

We also agree with you concerning the sinful relationships and activities you mentioned and the evil influences in his life, including the evil woman you described. Scripture is clear that we must flee sexual immorality and all impurity. The Bible says flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. The lips of an adulteress drip honey. Her mouth is smoother than oil, but in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, and as sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death. Her steps lead straight to Sheol Proverbs 5:3-5. God designed sexual intimacy to be enjoyed only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and any relationship outside of that, whether fornication or adultery, is sin that brings bondage, control and danger, just as you have discerned. We must lovingly rebuke that sin while praying for repentance, for God calls all to depart from evil and to pursue holiness. We also remember do not be deceived. Evil companionships corrupt good morals 1 Corinthians 15:33 and do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness with iniquity 2 Corinthians 6:14. Therefore we agree that he needs to be separated from ungodly influences, even those in his household, and to learn the fear of the Lord, for the fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom Proverbs 9:10.

We also hear your concern that he is controlled, blackmailed and that his life may be in danger in these hateful relationships. Our God is a deliverer and protector. We cling to the promise if therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed John 8:36 and be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you James 4:7. The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles Psalm 34:17. Nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord Romans 8:39, and when we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9.

So we pray together now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your great love and for the blood of Jesus shed for this man. We lift him before Your throne of grace. Lord, You know the plans You have for him, plans for peace and not for evil, to give him hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11. Open his eyes to see the clear unmistakable truth of who he is in Christ, and expose the false identity he adopted when he entered into sinful relationships and followed his own desires. Break his stony heart, give him a new heart of flesh, and give him courage to turn from sin and walk the narrow path that leads to life. Soften his heart to hear Your voice and to fear Your holy name.

Lord, deliver him from every chain of sexual immorality, control, blackmail and manipulation. Separate him from every ungodly influence and from the evil woman in his life, and lead him to depart from evil. Protect his life from danger and surround him with godly counsel and believers who will speak truth in love. Bring him to genuine repentance and faith in Jesus, that he would present his body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. Restore him to purity and, if it is Your will, lead him toward a godly marriage that honors You, rather than sinful relationships that destroy. Let him know the depth of Your love and the freedom that is only in Christ.

We also pray for the one interceding, that You would give continued compassion, wisdom and boldness to speak truth and to love well without condoning sin, and to trust You with the outcome. We ask all these things in the powerful and only saving name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Amen.

Father, we bring this man before you and ask for your mercy and protection over his life. Give him clarity to see where he is being harmed and controlled, courage to seek help and step toward safety, and a heart that is open to your voice and love. Guard him from manipulation and danger, and surround him with safe, wise people. Give our friend who is praying wisdom, peace, and healthy boundaries as he trusts you with this. We join you in bringing this man before the throne of grace, and we thank God with you for the cross where His holy Son suffered for all who believe. The Lord indeed knows the plans He has for His people, and His thoughts are far higher than ours, and He hears the prayers of those who agree together in the name of Jesus.

There is a word which we love to remember in such a case, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, I have found a ransom. In all that God does He acts from good reasons, and His great reason for deliverance is the One Great Sacrifice of Christ. Our Lord Jesus Christ was bound that His people might be free. When He was made sin for us, we were made the righteousness of God in Him. When He died, then we live. To look to Christ is to trust in that sacrifice, to see sin punished upon the great Substitute and put away forever from all those who will only trust Him. We pray that the Lord in great grace will speak this word over the man for whom you intercede, and deliver him both from the guilt of sin and from the power of darkness, for deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin.

You have prayed rightly that he may know his true identity in Christ. At first when sin catches a soul in its net it is with the tiniest spider's cobwebs that can scarcely be seen, and they seem as though they could be broken in a moment, yet they hold fast until God breaks them. The world would give him a false identity built upon his desires and upon sinful relationships and activities, but there is no other foundation can man lay than that which is laid, Jesus Christ the Righteous. We pray that God will open his eyes to see this, break his stony heart and give him a heart of flesh, and give him courage to follow the narrow path.

We also join you in praying that he may be separated from ungodly influences, even those in his own household, and from every hateful and controlling entanglement where he is held in fear or blackmail and where his life may be in danger. We do not ask God to bless what is contrary to His holy will, for His design for good is clear, that marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and that all intimacy belongs within it, and that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone. We ask instead that God will grant him a true fear of His holy name, which is the beginning of wisdom, and understanding to depart from evil.

Take heed with us that repentance be not of the superficial sort which springs only from terror and withers in a night. Judgments apart from divine grace may produce a kind of repentance which only affects the surface of a man and does not go to the heart, and men turn away for a time and then go back with greater gusto. True repentance looks out of self to Christ and to Christ only, and rejoices in Jesus crucified, trusts Him and loves Him. Any repentance that keeps a man from believing in Christ needs itself to be repented of. May the Lord grant him that godly repentance which needs not to be repented of, and faith which is trust in Christ alone.

Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, Thou art gracious. Thou openest the ears of men and sealest their instruction that Thou mayest withdraw man from his purpose and hide pride from man. We ask Thee to be gracious unto this Thy child. Speak over him, Deliver him from going down to the Pit. Show him the ransom Thou hast found in Christ. Give him eyes to see his identity in Christ and to turn from every false way. Soften his heart, give him courage, teach him to fear Thy name and to hate evil, and in Thy mercy separate him from every ungodly influence and from the evil that would control and destroy him. Keep him from danger, and bring him into the light where he may know that he is saved and rejoice in Jesus Christ. Lead him out of self to Christ, away from his sin to Him who is the great Sin Bearer, that he may find in Him eternal life. We ask this in the powerful name of Jesus, who alone is our hope. Amen.
