Deliverance from perversity

Disciple of Prayer
Hello everyone, I request prayer please for my husband who does not recognize the bad he does. He verbally assaulted me saturday afternoon and this evening too. Please pray that the Lord deliver him from perversity.

May God watch over your request. I pray. Please come and join us in praying for others. May God bless those who pray. In Lord Yeshuas name amen.

We hear your cry and we stand with you in prayer before our heavenly Father, for we know that marriage is a holy covenant before God between a man and a woman for life, and it is meant to reflect Christ's love for His church. We grieve with you over the verbal assaults you have endured, and we take this matter seriously before the Lord.

Scripture is clear about how a husband is to treat his wife. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it Ephesians 5:25. Husbands, love your wives, and don’t be bitter against them Colossians 3:19. Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman as to the weaker vessel, as also being joint heirs of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered 1 Peter 3:7. When a husband uses his tongue to assault and wound his wife, he is not walking in love and he dishonors the marriage covenant. We must lovingly yet firmly rebuke this behavior, for it does not align with God's will. Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear Ephesians 4:29. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger Proverbs 15:1. A perverse heart will not find good, and one who has a perverse tongue falls into evil Proverbs 17:20.

We also hear you ask for deliverance from perversity for your husband, and that he does not recognize the wrong he does. This hardness of heart is spiritual blindness that only the Holy Spirit can convict and heal. We pray that God will open his eyes to see his sin as God sees it, grant him a spirit of repentance, and cleanse his heart. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me Psalm 51:10. We are to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5, and that includes perverse and abusive thoughts and words that need to be torn down and made obedient to Jesus.

We want to gently remind you that we have access to the Father only through Jesus Christ. You asked for prayer to the Lord, and we join you in coming in the name of Jesus, for Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by His name and His shed blood that we can boldly ask for mercy, deliverance, and healing in our marriages, and we encourage you to continue to call upon the name of Jesus Christ as your Savior and your hope.

We encourage you, dear sister, to guard your heart and seek wisdom and safety. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit Psalm 34:18. We encourage you to not suffer in silence, but to seek godly counsel from a trusted pastor or mature believing counselor who can walk with you both, to set biblical boundaries with love and truth, and to pray for protection over your home. Be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger James 1:19 is a word for both husband and wife, and we pray your husband will learn to bridle his tongue and speak with grace.

We now join together in prayer for you and your husband.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We lift up this dear sister who has been wounded by verbal assaults, and we ask You to comfort her, strengthen her, and surround her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Heal the hurt in her heart and let her know she is seen and loved by You. We lift up her husband to You, Lord. We ask that You convict him deeply of his sin, that You remove the veil from his eyes so he may recognize the wrong he has done. Deliver him from perversity, from a perverse tongue and a hard heart. Wash him, renew his mind, and create in him a clean heart that speaks words of life and love. Teach him to love his wife as Christ loves the church, with gentleness, honor, and self control. We rebuke the spirit of perversity and strife in this marriage and command it to leave in Jesus name. Let Your Holy Spirit reign in this home, bringing repentance, forgiveness, and restoration where it is Your will. Give this wife wisdom, courage, and godly support, and keep her safe under Your wings. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen.

Thank you for reaching out and telling us what happened Saturday afternoon and again this evening. Being verbally assaulted in your own home is frightening and painful, and we are so sorry you are going through this. It makes sense you would feel shaken and be asking God to open your husband's eyes to the harm his words cause.

Words used to control or demean can cut deeply and wear down your sense of safety and worth over time. Please know this is not your fault, and you deserve to be safe and treated with dignity.

When you can, we encourage you to reach out soon to one safe, trusted person near you, whether a pastor, a Christian counselor, or a family member or friend, and let them know what has been happening. It can help to think ahead together about a simple safety plan, who you would call and where you could go if you feel threatened again, and what support is available in your area. You do not need to sort this out alone, and having someone with you can help you get wisdom for next steps while we continue to pray.

Father, in Jesus name we lift this sister to You. Surround her with Your protection and peace, give her clarity and wisdom for what to do next, and bring trustworthy help around her. Work in her husband's heart to take responsibility for his words and to seek real change, and lead them both toward safety, healing and wise counsel. Amen.

We have heard your cry and we carry it with you to the throne of grace, asking the Lord to look upon you with mercy and to work in your husband that which only His Spirit can work.

The sorrow you describe is grievous, for to be verbally assaulted in your own home and to see no acknowledgment of wrong is a heavy burden. Scripture is plain that perversity of heart and tongue is sin before a holy God, and that sin must be repented of, not excused or hidden. We do not ask God to bless what is sinful, but to deliver from it and to make the heart new.

There is a repentance that is only of the flesh, a carnal sorrow that is washed and brushed outwardly but leaves the heart still fallen and unchanged, giving no glory to God and leading to no lasting deliverance. What we pray for is far better, a repentance unto life, wrought by the Holy Spirit, which gives God glory, which looks out of self to Christ and to Christ only, which purges dead works and brings forth works meet for repentance, practical and lasting. Such repentance weeps and abhors sin because of the love of Christ who pardoned it, and it turns from present sin because of the love of God who died for us. It makes a rainbow with tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the finished work of Christ.

Deliverance from such bondage is solely by the power of God. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. As Israel was brought forth only when the lamb was slain, so the sinner is delivered from going down to the pit only because God has found a ransom. The King's own Son has borne the penalty, and where there is true repentance there is full and free remission of sins preached in His name. No man can deliver himself, but He brings forth effectually those whom He saves, and He enriches them with grace.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, who hears the afflicted and is near to the brokenhearted, have mercy upon this sister and upon her household. Thou knowest the words spoken on Saturday and again this evening, the wounds they have left, and the hardness of heart that does not yet see its own evil. Lord, grant to her husband not a fleeting regret, but that godly sorrow which needs not to be repented of, a true repentance that glorifies Thee and turns from perversity. Open his eyes to see his sin as Thou seest it, to abhor it, and to flee to Jesus Christ, through whom alone is salvation and remission of sins. Deliver him, we beseech Thee, from going down to the pit, for Thou hast found a ransom in the blood of Thy Son. Deliver this home from the archers of discord and strife, and let peace dwell within its borders.

Father, keep this dear one in Thy care. Comfort her, strengthen her, and let her know that Thou art her refuge. Lead her to walk wisely, to seek godly counsel and the help of faithful pastors and elders in her church, and to take needful steps for safety and peace while she continues to pray. Let her trust not in man but in Thee, who alone can change the heart and bring forth deliverance.

We ask this not because we are worthy, but in the name of Jesus Christ our only Savior, who alone can renew the heart and restore what sin has broken. May He be master of that home, and may true repentance and lasting deliverance be seen, to the praise of Thy free grace. Amen.

Continue to wait upon the Lord, to abide in His Word, and to remain under the care of your local church. If you are in danger, seek help at once from trusted family, church leaders, and those appointed to protect. We will continue to pray that the Lord will grant true repentance, full deliverance, and healing in this marriage covenant as He is pleased to work all things for His glory.
