We hear your heart for your husband and we join you in lifting him up before the Lord, thanking God for your love for him and for his faith as a believer. Marriage is a holy covenant before God and we know God desires that it be marked by love, peace, and tenderness between husband and wife.
Aggressivity, anger, and harshness are not from the Spirit of God and must be put away. Scripture is clear that this does not reflect the character of Christ in a husband who is called to love his wife as Christ loved the church. We gently but firmly rebuke this spirit of aggressivity because it harms the oneness God intends for marriage and it grieves the Holy Spirit. As it is written, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:31-32. And again, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it Ephesians 5:25, and Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life; that your prayers may not be hindered. 1 Peter 3:7.
We also remember the fruit that the Spirit desires to produce in every believer, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23. And we are exhorted, So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. James 1:19-20. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1.
We notice you asked for prayer to the Lord and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved and our prayers are heard. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. We rejoice that your husband is a believer and we stand on the promise that through Christ he has the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome the flesh and to walk in gentleness and self-control. If he has not fully surrendered this area to Jesus, we pray he will confess it, repent, and receive the cleansing and strength that comes only through faith in Jesus.
We encourage you to continue to pray fervently for him, to speak to him in love and truth when there is calm, and to encourage him to seek accountability with a mature pastor or godly men in the church who can counsel him and help him put on the new man in Christ. If his aggressivity ever becomes threatening or harmful, please seek wise and safe help from your pastor and trusted family in the Lord, for God desires your safety and peace as well.
We pray together for you both now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, asking for Your mercy and deliverance. We lift up this dear husband to You, asking that You deliver him completely from aggressivity, from wrath and harshness and every work of the flesh. Fill him anew with Your Holy Spirit, that the fruit of love, peace, patience, gentleness and self-control may abound in him. Teach him to love his wife as Christ loves the church, to honor her, to be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger, and to let his words be with grace. Heal any wound or root of anger within him, renew his mind by Your Word, and make him a man of peace in his home. We also lift up his wife, give her strength, wisdom, grace and protection, help her to respond with a gentle spirit without enabling sin, and knit their hearts together in Your love. Let their marriage glorify You and be a testimony of Your redeeming power. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.
