Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The request you bring for your child’s healing and companions touches on matters of great weight, yet we must be careful to seek the remedy from the right root. You ask for friends who uplift and see her, but hear what has been said: “Keep not then friends to teach thee harm; keep not friends who are enamored rather of thy table than of thy friendship. For all such persons, if thou retrench thy good living, retrench their friendship too; but they that associate with thee for virtue’s sake, remain continually, enduring every change.” And again, “We seek for ourselves other motives of friendship, some from relationship, some from long acquaintance, some from community of interest, some from neighborhood; and from every cause rather are we friends, than from godliness, when one’s friendships ought to be formed upon this only.” What profit, then, to clamor for a circle of companions if the foundation is not first laid in godliness? The friendship that is a fortified city is not built on laughter and shared pastimes; “not eating and drinking makes friendship: such friendship even robbers have and murderers. But if we are friends, if we truly care for one another, let us in these respects help one another. This leads us to a profitable friendship: let us hinder those things which lead away to hell.” Pray rather that she would find even one or two whose bond is virtue, that they might lock shields together in the battle against sin, for true friends assist the soul’s health, not merely the heart’s comfort.

Regarding the healing of her knee and her return to strength, fix your gaze upon the Healer Himself. See the leper who came with a right opinion, placing all authority in Christ’s hands: “He did not interrupt the teaching, nor break through the auditory, but awaited the proper time... with the genuine faith and right opinion about him. For neither did he say, ‘If Thou request it of God,’ nor, ‘If Thou pray,’ but, ‘If Thou wilt, Thou canst make me clean.’ Nor did he say, ‘Lord, cleanse me,’ but leaves all to Him, and makes His recovery depend on Him, and testifies that all the authority is His.” This is the faith that draws down healing. Do not think of her recovery only as a return to the soccer field and the level she has worked to attain, lest the cloud of a lesser desire dim the pure purpose of seeking Christ. “For the love of money, like an evil humor which hath collected upon a clear eyeball, hath caused the cloud to become thick.” So too can any disordered love, even for a good thing like athletic triumph, become such a humor if it is not subjected to the will of God. If she seeks first His kingdom, the stability of her limbs will be ordered to a higher purpose.

Yet even as you pray for the body, remember the deeper beauty that is possible for every soul, a recovery from the extremest deformity. “It is possible even for him who has fallen into the extremest deformity to recover that beauty of which David says that the King shall desire thy beauty. ‘Hearken, O daughter, and consider; forget also thine own people and thy father’s house: so shall the King greatly desire thy beauty.’” This forgetting of sins and the former way of life produces a spiritual loveliness far surpassing any physical agility. Bring your daughter forward in prayer like the woman with the issue of blood, who was exceedingly alarmed yet heard the words, “Daughter, be of good cheer,” and whose faith made her a daughter and made her whole. Trust her into that same healing hand, that whether she runs again on the field or walks a quieter path, her strength may be restored for the service of God, with a determination that seeks first His approval. Her faith will make her whole.

What you have asked is both tender and full of faith, so let me lift up your daughter with a few thoughts that I pray will steady your own heart as you wait on the Lord.

A surgery and the long work of recovery can feel like a kind of exile, the body is weakened, the normal rhythms of life are disrupted, and there is a yearning to return to what once felt whole and strong. Yet the Scripture shows us again and again that seasons of captivity are not wasted. When a remnant of Israel came back from Babylon, they came with a singular purpose: to rebuild. In a similar way, I pray your daughter’s knee is not merely repaired but remade with a stability she has never known. May this healing be a thorough, deep work that goes beyond the physical, anchoring her confidence in the God who restores.

I also ask that the Lord would bring her a circle of friends who truly see her. Not just companions to pass the time, but a company of young women who sharpen and uplift. When Jesus entered the temple, His zeal was for purity, He emptied it of what did not belong. Pray that He would do something similar in her social world, clearing away what is hollow and harmful, and ushering in relationships that are genuine, kind, and honoring to Him. May she be surrounded by friends who will stand with her through the hard days of rehab and celebrate with her when she steps back onto the field.

And as for soccer, do not despise the desire. God made her with gifts and a drive that can be a living testimony. I think of how the world stands amazed at a recovery that seems to defy explanation. When your daughter returns to the game with fresh strength and a determination forged in this trial, it will be a witness to more than her own resilience; it will point to a God who heals. May she play with joy, with courage, and with a heart that gives glory to the One who carried her through the wounded days.

Keep entrusting her to the Great Physician. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in her body and in her life. I join you in asking all this, in His name.

We want to thank you for trusting us with the privilege of lifting your precious daughter up in prayer during this time. Our hearts have been joined with yours as we stood in agreement, asking our Heavenly Father to bring healing, strength, and restoration to her knee. We prayed earnestly for her physical recovery, that she would regain stability and strength like never before, and that her return to soccer would be marked by renewed determination and the ability to play at the level she has worked so hard to achieve.

We also lifted up her heart and her relationships, asking God to surround her with friends who see her for the amazing young woman she is—friends who uplift, encourage, and stand by her. We prayed that she would experience deep connections built on love, trust, and mutual respect, and that her spirit would be refreshed through these relationships.

As the days have passed, we hope and pray that you have seen glimpses of God’s faithfulness in her recovery and in her life. If He has answered these prayers in ways big or small, we would be overjoyed to hear a praise report so that we can celebrate with you. If the answers are still unfolding or if new needs have arisen, please know that we are here to continue standing with you in prayer. You are not alone in this journey, and we would be honored to lift her up again as a fresh request.

May the Lord continue to draw near to your daughter, filling her with His peace, strength, and joy as she seeks Him. May He bless her steps, guide her path, and remind her daily of His unfailing love. We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
