We thank you for sharing this update with us and for continuing to bring this workplace situation before the Lord. We rejoice with you that you saw improvement after prayer, and we understand your discouragement that things have slipped back into old patterns of immaturity and strife. God did hear your prayer and He is still at work, even when progress feels like one step forward and one step back. We are called to pray without ceasing, as we are reminded in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 and Luke 18:1 that we should always pray and not give up.
We hear your frustration and your desire for your coworker to have a softened heart, and we join you in praying for her. At the same time we want to gently encourage you to guard your own heart against bitterness or singling her out as the sole problem. Scripture reminds us in Matthew 7:3-5 to first examine the log in our own eye, and in Philippians 2:3-4 to do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility to count others better than ourselves, each looking not only to his own interests but also to the interests of others. Where there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there is confusion and every evil deed as James 3:16 tells us, so we must pray for unity for the whole office, not only for one person to change.
We are called to be peacemakers and to pursue what makes for peace. Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Ephesians 4:29 says Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. And Proverbs 15:1 reminds us that A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Even when others act immaturely, we are to respond with maturity in Christ, putting on a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance as Colossians 3:12 describes, and above all putting on love which is the bond of perfection in Colossians 3:14.
We also rejoice that you prayed in Jesus name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Your faith in calling on His name is well placed.
We pray together for you, for your coworker, and for your entire office.
Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus and thank You that You hear our prayers. We thank You for the improvement You brought to this workplace and we ask You to continue Your good work there. We ask You to soften hearts, not only the heart of this coworker but all hearts in that office including our own, and to give a new heart and a new spirit as You promised in Ezekiel 36:26. Remove any heart of stone and give a heart of flesh that is tender toward You and toward others. Help us to love our enemies and pray for those who mistreat us as You commanded in Matthew 5:44. Let bitterness, wrath, anger, and malice be put away as Ephesians 4:31-32 teaches, and help everyone to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other just as You in Christ forgave us. Give wisdom to respond with gentle answers, to speak only what builds up, and to pursue peace and maturity. Let Your peace rule in that office and let all that is done there be done in a way that honors You. We ask for endurance to keep praying and not grow weary, trusting that You are working even when we cannot see it. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
