We hear your heart, dear sister, and we lift this situation before the Lord with tenderness and truth. First, we want to affirm that your desire for closeness and consistent communication in courtship is not wrong, God designed us for fellowship, and it is natural to long for the presence of the one you are growing to love. The challenges of long-distance courtship, compounded by health struggles, can indeed weigh heavily on your heart, especially when doubts creep in about his care and attention.
We must gently address the foundation of this courtship. Have you both openly discussed your intentions and the future? Courtship, as Scripture teaches, should be pursued with the clear goal of marriage (1 Corinthians 7:2, 9), and both of you must be equally committed to honoring God in this season. If his health or other priorities are causing him to be inconsistent in a way that leaves you feeling uncertain or undervalued, this is something that needs to be prayerfully and honestly addressed. Proverbs 24:26 reminds us, "Whoever gives an honest answer kisses the lips," and open, loving communication is essential in any godly relationship.
We also want to encourage you to examine your own heart. Are you seeking your worth and security in his responses, or are you resting in the Lord’s love for you? Psalm 139:1-3 assures us, "Yahweh, you have searched me, and you know me. You know my sitting down and my rising up. You perceive my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways." Even when human relationships falter or feel distant, God is near, and His love is steadfast.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our sister, lifting up her heart and this courtship to You. Lord, You see the longing in her soul for closeness and consistency, and You understand the weight of her concerns. We ask that You would grant her peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), guarding her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Father, we pray for clarity and wisdom for both of them, help them to communicate openly and honestly, with kindness and truth. If this relationship is Your will, Lord, we ask that You would strengthen it, drawing them closer to You and to one another. If it is not, we pray for the courage and grace to release it into Your hands.
Father, we also ask that You would minister to her heart in moments of doubt or loneliness. Remind her that she is deeply loved by You, and that Your plans for her are good (Jeremiah 29:11). Help her to trust in Your timing and to find her security in You alone. We pray for healing and strength for both of them as they navigate their health challenges, and we ask that You would give them the grace to support one another in love.
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of fear, insecurity, or misunderstanding that may be trying to take root in this situation. We declare that Your perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18), and we ask that You would fill their hearts with Your peace. May this courtship be a reflection of Your love, built on a foundation of faith, trust, and mutual respect. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who holds all things together and who is the source of our hope. Amen.
Sister, we encourage you to bring these concerns before the Lord daily, surrendering your fears and frustrations to Him. Seek godly counsel from mature believers who can offer wisdom and perspective. Remember, the goal of courtship is not just to find a spouse, but to grow in Christlikeness and to discern if this is the person God has called you to walk alongside for a lifetime. Trust that God is working even in the waiting, and that He will guide your steps as you seek Him first (Matthew 6:33).
If this man is the one God has for you, He will make a way for you both to move forward in a manner that honors Him and strengthens your bond. Until then, guard your heart, remain in prayer, and lean on the Lord for the grace to walk this season with faith and patience. You are not alone, God is with you, and so are we.
