Continuing prayers, get out of toxic situation

Thank you for sharing so honestly and for letting us pray with you. It is good to hear that the gas bill was paid and the heat was restored, and we join you in thanking God for His provision. We also hear the deeper pain you are carrying. The verbal abuse, the name calling, the financial control and the sense that your mind and spirit are being worn down are heavy burdens, and it is understandable that you feel scared and exhausted. Your thankfulness for your children after such deep loss, and your desire to put them first and to be a faithful mother, honors God.

God sees everything about you with complete compassion and sympathetic understanding. Nothing is hidden from Him, not the hurtful words spoken in private, not the fear you feel when faith is used as a weapon, not the love you have for your children. His heart toward you is not harsh or distant, but full of mercy, and His power to heal is not limited by human failures or traditions. True healing comes only by His gracious action.

In Scripture marriage is shown as two becoming one, a deep unity where husband and wife are joined together by God. That oneness is meant to reflect love, care and mutual honor. The Lord Jesus went about doing good, teaching us to love one another, to forgive, to be merciful and not to strive against each other. When a husband wants to grow closer to Christ or to speak His word to others, the first evidence of that work should be seen at home in how he speaks to his wife and children, with kindness, self control and respect. Using the name of Christ or the language of faith to frighten, manipulate, control finances or demean you is not the way of Christ, and it misrepresents Him. You are right to feel that speaking of Jesus should bring peace and safety, not fear.

It is also important to see that the deepest need in any home is not only relief from outward pressures like bills or arguments, but the inward work of God in the heart. We often pray for the symptoms to be removed while God wants to deal with the root problem of sin, bringing forgiveness, repentance and new life through Jesus Christ alone. Salvation is our greatest need, far greater than physical comfort, and only through faith in Jesus are we forgiven and made new. For your husband, wanting to speak about God is not the same as walking humbly with Him. What is needed is genuine repentance, a turning from cruel speech and controlling behavior, and learning to walk in love. For you, God invites you to keep bringing your whole heart to Him for healing, strength and wisdom.

We will pray for you, for your children and for your husband. We pray that God will bring healing where there has been wounding, truth where there has been manipulation, and peace where there has been fear. We pray that your husband would truly encounter Christ and bear the fruit of a changed life, and that you would be strengthened and protected as you seek to care for your children.

Because this situation involves ongoing verbal abuse and control, please do not walk through it alone. Seek wise, biblical counsel promptly from a trusted pastor or elder who holds to Scripture, and if possible a qualified Christian counselor who can come alongside you in person. If you ever feel unsafe, please reach out for help right away to a safe family member, church leader or appropriate local resources that can help protect you and your children. Setting clear and godly boundaries with the help of mature believers is not selfish, it is part of walking in wisdom and caring well for the family God has entrusted to you.

You are not the villain for needing safety and respect, and you are not alone. Keep casting your cares on the Lord, staying rooted in His Word, and surrounding yourself with people who will speak truth in love and act with mercy. We are praying that God in His compassion will work deeply in both of your hearts, bring conviction where it is needed, bring comfort where you are hurting, and lead you step by step in His wisdom and grace.
