"Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.'” Therefore I willboast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong," 2 Cor 12:8-10. "The one who tames the tongue controls the whole body," James 3:2, but "No person can tame the tongue," Jam 3:8, "But Jesus said, 'What is impossible with man is possible with God,'" Luke 18:27. "By Faith people were from weaknesses were made strong," Heb 11:34, Goal of Trials: "Never pleasant in the present(does not 'seem like' joy, but grief), but later on, yields a harvest of righteousness and peace (it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness) to those who have been trained by submitting to discipline," Heb 12:11, What to Say and How to Say it (the Best Way Possible), Jn 12:49, "The LORD answered the angel who was speaking with me with Gracious words, Comforting words," Zech 1:13.

"While Confessing My Sins and The Sins of My Nation," Daniel 9:20, "If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land," 2 Chronicles 7:14... Father, thank You for giving mercy and grace in times of need, Heb 4:16, past and now in present. Though we may yet need grace to confess in the future, we rather prefer to be done with all future sin, and were there a button to push representing that ability to delete all future stumbling prior to their occurring, we'd gladly press it without delay or hesitation (since we all stumble often, specifically with the tongue, James 3:2). Yet since no such button exists, and the best of humanity and even Christians are at best still "human," we are content with what remedy we have, namely the prescription to humbly confess and forsake our sins, and promises of not only that we'll find mercy, Prov 28:13, but cleansing from all unrighteousness, 1 Jn 1:9, and even contentment in Your presence, Heb 13:5, and promises of holiness, which we inherit by faith, Heb 4:2, even promises to do no wrong, 2 Cor 13:7, not stumble in what we say and control the whole body, James 3:2, even to walk as Jesus Himself, 1 Jn 2:6, 1 Jn 4:17. We continue the remedy of our misuse of the instrument of the tongue we were given to glorify God and edify others, in confession and repentance, for sanctification both a one-time act and an ongoing work of participation with the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, Matt 3:8, Phil 2:12-13, 1 Tim 4:16, so we agree with Your admonition to confess our sins to one another and pray for each other that we may be healed, James 5:16 -- maybe that's how through boasting in our weaknesses 2 Cor 12:9 by faith from weaknesses we are made strong, Heb 11:32-34. So in obedience to Your teaching through Hosea, we, "Take words with you, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, 'Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips as bulls" Hos 14:2.

Lord, I've missed Your warnings, not hearkened to Your Voice, Missed Your Spirit's leading, haven't taken the way of escape in every occurrence, 1 Cor 10:13... I've dealt with things unrighteously, sinned and fallen short of Your glorious image, Rom 3:23, Gen 1:27, Matt 5:48, Eph 5:1. I've lacked love, have gotten "in the flesh," have said and typed things in with a mixture of emotions, even in anger, that even if they were true have either lacked love or forgotten the foundation of equality for the sake of Christ, Eph 5:21, maybe both or all of the following: I have done things mixed with pride and empty conceit, and in times of pain have said, spoken, typed, forwarded and done things to further my own interests or unrighteous emotions, rather than considering the interests of others, and lacked the attitude of Christ's humility that prefers my neighbor's advantage, and forgotten to treat others as more important than myself, Phil 2:3-5. Such actions and attitudes that display such mixture tainted with the anger of man do not achieve the righteousness of God, James 1:19-20. Therefore, not using my bodily members as instruments of righteousness consistently, I confess with Isaiah, I've been a man of unclean lips, Isa 6:5, and confess like Peter, I am an unclean man, Luke 5:8.

Since our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them, transgressing and denying Yahweh, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood, Isa 59:12-13, at time, "Surely I have spoken of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know, therefore I despise my sins, and I repent from them in dust and ashes," Job 42:3, Job 42:6. Yet though You've disciplined me severely, You haven't given me over to death, Ps 118:18. I can say with the Psalmist, "It was good for me to be afflicted that I might learn the way of Your Commands," Ps 119:71. Let me make the most of Your discipline, knowing it's end result has many ends in mind, sanctification being a chief one, Even Jesus being the author, ἀρχηγὸν, ultimate architect, pioneer and engineer of our salvation, perfected through suffering, Heb 2:10, on earth and in flesh, the proving ground of obedience, becoming the ultimate fountain of salvation, Heb 5:8-9. Surely, there is One found Worthy, Rev 5:9.

Though beyond human capacity to bear at times tribulation transfers every drop of hope to You alone who raise the dead, 2 Cor 1:8-9, who has helped us and will yet again, others assisting us in prayers, 2 Cor 1:10-11, produces patience leading to maturity that we may also be complete, James 1:2-3, and though not pleasant at present, afterward yields not only perseverance, proven character but an abiding hope that does not disappoint, even granting assurance through The Holy Spirit of Adoption, Rom 5:3-5. May trials yield a harvest of peaceful fruit and righteousness, Heb 12:11, even an everlasting quietness and confidence, Isa 32:17, an everlasting crown of life, James 1:12, and ability to reign with You, as You overcame and reign in truth, humility and justice, Ps 45:4, Rev 3:19-21, Rev 21:7. We ask for grace to renew our minds, Rom 12:2, to rejoice in all these things knowing we are presently blessed and understanding their end is eternal reward, Matt 5:10-12, and that Your Intention is to work it all together for good, Rom 8:28, because You are indeed Gracious and Compassionate, Ex 34:4-5, as we see You were with Job, James 1:12. Let us pray for others and others pray for us knowing You have brought us through trials before, You will do so again, and that prayers are powerful and effective, 2 Cor 1:10-11, especially when we confess our struggles and sins to one another and pray for each other, Your promise is the prayers are powerful and effective, James 5:15-16, even as Elijah's, James 5:17-18... We read your confession with gratitude for your honesty. You put into words what many of us feel but struggle to say, the longing to be done with sin altogether, especially with words spoken in haste or anger, and the weariness of stumbling again with the tongue.

We hear both your sorrow over what has been said and your deep desire to love well, to walk humbly and to honor Christ in how you speak and live. That desire itself is a work of grace, and we thank God for it in you.

What you described about wanting a button to end all future stumbling resonates. Sanctification is not that kind of instant fix. Scripture presents it as God's work in us that we are invited to participate in day by day, as we abide in Christ and keep turning to Him. Confession is part of that ongoing participation, not a one-time event but a process that frees us from guilt and, over time, makes sin less attractive as we are formed more into His likeness. Your willingness to name what happened and to turn from it is part of that healing path.

One simple next step that may help is what you already named, to take words with you to the Lord and also to bring them to one trusted, mature believer. Choosing one person you trust, sharing specifically where you have struggled with the tongue or with anger, and asking them to pray with you regularly can make that ongoing work less isolating and more steady.

Father, thank You for Your mercy that meets us in need. We bring our brother before You and ask for Your cleansing, Your peace, and strength to walk closely with You. Give him grace to keep confessing quickly, to receive Your forgiveness fully, and to grow in gentleness and self-control by Your Spirit. Renew his mind day by day and keep him abiding in Christ. Your confession has been read with thankfulness to God who works in the heart both to humble and to heal. There is hope in such language, for when a soul humbles itself, prays, seeks the face of God and turns from its wicked ways, the promise stands that He will hear from heaven, forgive sin and heal. This is no light matter, and you have done well to take words with you and turn unto the Lord, saying, Take away all iniquity and receive us graciously.

Take heed that your repentance be of the holy, heavenly sort which is worked in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit, and not that carnal repentance which is of the flesh. Pharaoh said, I have sinned, when the thunder and hail were upon him, but his repentance died in the calm. Judas confessed and then went and hanged himself, which was remorse and not repentance. The true penitent hates sin as sin and turns from it with purpose of heart. He loathes the poison that was once sweet to him and leaves it. David, after his great fall, sought pardon first and found it, and then his broken and contrite heart poured itself out before God, grieving most of all that he had sinned against his God. So let your sorrow be deep and your faith look wholly to the great Substitute.

Remember that confession makes no atonement in any shape whatever. Justice has but one rule, that sin must be punished, and no confession of ours can put sin away. It was necessary that God should be veiled in human flesh and bear the load, and He has borne it, despised and rejected, upon the cross. Repentance and remission of sins are to be preached in His name, and in His name alone. If any man's heart is turned away from sin, it is the sure and infallible sign of pardon, for God gives repentance as one of the free gifts of His grace. Faith and repentance come into the soul together. The repentance that ejects sin as an evil tenant and the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart are inseparable. You are to confess your sin and acknowledge the evil of it, and then turn to Christ for deliverance, for His blood cleanseth from all unrighteousness according to the faithful promise in First John.

You speak truly of weakness and of the unruly tongue. No man can tame the tongue, though he that tames it controls the whole body. What is impossible with man is possible with God. By faith those who were weak were made strong. The Lord has said, My grace is sufficient for thee, for My power is perfected in weakness, and therefore we may boast gladly in our infirmities that the power of Christ may rest upon us. This is a singular form of strength, to be strengthened in the Lord. I will strengthen them in the Lord and they shall walk up and down in His name, saith the Lord. When God makes your heart soft as wax, be careful who puts the seal upon it. Let the Spirit of the living God set the seal of deep repentance and holy faith there, and not the enemy with despair. Like a festering sore, anguish gathers while the lancet of confession is refused, but when sin is acknowledged there is rest.

You desire to be done with all future stumbling and would press a button to delete it if you could. That holy desire is itself evidence of grace, yet sanctification is both a one time act and an ongoing work wherein we work out what God works in us. It was good for the psalmist to be afflicted that he might learn the statutes of God, and even Jesus, the author and pioneer of our salvation, was perfected through suffering and learned obedience by the things which He suffered. Tribulation rightly borne transfers every drop of hope to Him who raises the dead, produces patience and proven character, and yields afterward the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it. The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in mercy, quick to forgive when we are quick to confess.

Therefore continue in the good way you have begun. Confess your sins one to another and pray one for another that ye may be healed, for the prayer of faith is powerful and effective. He that covereth his sins shall not prosper, but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Walk in the light of that promise, abiding in Christ and in His words, for His is the only name given under heaven by which we must be saved, and He is the one Mediator between God and man. May the Lord grant you a renewed mind, a bridled tongue, a pure heart, a good conscience and sincere faith, and may you know the delicious freedom of walking up and down in His name, strong in the Lord and in the power of His might, until faith gives way to sight.

We pray with you that the Lord will take away all iniquity, receive you graciously, keep you from stumbling in word and deed, and cause you to walk as Christ walked, to His glory and your present and everlasting peace, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Your confession has been received with thanksgiving, for you have done what Scripture commands. When you humble yourself and pray and seek His face and turn from wicked ways, He hears from heaven and forgives sin and heals, as it is written in 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Daniel 9:20. And the promise stands firm that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, according to 1 John 1:9.

You have spoken truly about weakness and the tongue. No person can tame the tongue on his own, as James says, and we all stumble in what we say. Yet what is impossible with man is possible with God, and by faith those who were weak were made strong. This is why the Lord said to Paul, My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness. Therefore we can even boast in our weaknesses, in insults and hardships, so that the power of Christ may rest on us. Your desire to press a button and be done with all future stumbling is understandable, but God has appointed another way, a way that keeps us humble and dependent on His mercy day by day.

True repentance is not only to forsake former evil deeds, but to show forth good deeds greater than those, to bring forth fruits worthy of repentance. It is not enough to have pulled out the dart, we must also apply remedies to the wound. If the tongue has been used for anger or empty conceit, for words without love that do not achieve the righteousness of God, then repentance means to depart from evil and do good, to make the tongue cease from evil and to seek peace and pursue it, peace with man and peace with God. If you have spoken hastily in anger, learn to be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to become angry, for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. If you have spoken to serve yourself, learn the mind of Christ who humbled Himself and counted others more important than Himself.

Humility is also more than calling yourself a sinner with your own lips. That can even become a way to seek praise. True humility is when another reviles you, to bear it patiently, to acknowledge fault, to endure without vainglory. God has marked out innumerable ways of salvation for those willing to attend, through alms, prayers, compunction, repentance, humility, a contrite heart, fasting according to your power, and sincere prayer. And even after the washing of baptism, the profit of repentance is not taken away, for the Lord taught His own disciples to pray, forgive us our debts, showing that He still forgives those who come with a contrite heart.

You have confessed with Isaiah that you are a man of unclean lips, and with Peter that you are in need of mercy, and with Job that you have spoken of things you did not understand. God has not given you over to death, though He disciplines those He loves, and that discipline, though not pleasant at present, afterward yields a harvest of righteousness and peace to those trained by it. It was good to be afflicted that you might learn His commands.

So continue in what you have begun. Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed, for the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Take words with you and turn to the Lord and say, take away all iniquity and receive us graciously. Ask Him to renew your mind, to tame your tongue, to give you a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith, and to make you walk as Jesus walked. He is the one mediator between God and man, the only name under heaven by which we must be saved, and He will perfect His power in your weakness as you abide in Him.

May the Lord who is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, grant you mercy and grace in time of need, cleanse you from all unrighteousness, keep you in His presence so you can be content in Him, and train you through every trial until you bear the peaceful fruit of righteousness for His glory.
