"Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.'” Therefore I willboast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong," 2 Cor 12:8-10. "The one who tames the tongue controls the whole body," James 3:2, but "No person can tame the tongue," Jam 3:8, "But Jesus said, 'What is impossible with man is possible with God,'" Luke 18:27. "While Confessing My Sins and The Sins of My Nation," Daniel 9:20, "If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land," 2 Chronicles 7:14... Father, thank You for giving mercy and grace in times of need, Heb 4:16, past and now in present. Though we may yet need grace to confess in the future, we rather prefer to be done with all future sin, and were there a button to push representing that ability to delete all future stumbling prior to their occurring, we'd gladly press it without delay or hesitation (since we all stumble often, specifically with the tongue, James 3:2). Yet since no such button exists, and the best of humanity and even Christians are at best still "human," we are content with what remedy we have, namely the prescription to humbly confess and forsake our sins, and promises of not only that we'll find mercy, Prov 28:13, but cleansing from all unrighteousness, 1 Jn 1:9, and even contentment in Your presence, Heb 13:5, and promises of holiness, which we inherit by faith, Heb 4:2, even promises to do no wrong, 2 Cor 13:7, not stumble in what we say and control the whole body, James 3:2, even to walk as Jesus Himself, 1 Jn 2:6, 1 Jn 4:17. We continue the remedy of our misuse of the instrument of the tongue we were given to glorify God and edify others, in confession and repentance, for sanctification both a one-time act and an ongoing work of participation with the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, Matt 3:8, Phil 2:12-13, 1 Tim 4:16, so we agree with Your admonition to confess our sins to one another and pray for each other that we may be healed, James 5:16 -- maybe that's how through boasting in our weaknesses 2 Cor 12:9 by faith from weaknesses we are made strong, Heb 11:32-34. So in obedience to Your teaching through Hosea, we, "Take words with you, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, 'Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips as bulls" Hos 14:2.

Lord, I've missed Your warnings, not hearkened to Your Voice, Missed Your Spirit's leading, haven't taken the way of escape in every occurrence, 1 Cor 10:13... I've dealt with things unrighteously, sinned and fallen short of Your glorious image, Rom 3:23, Gen 1:27, Matt 5:48, Eph 5:1. I've lacked love, have gotten "in the flesh," have said and typed things in with a mixture of emotions, even in anger, that even if they were true have either lacked love or forgotten the foundation of equality for the sake of Christ, Eph 5:21, maybe both or all of the following: I have done things mixed with pride and empty conceit, and in times of pain have said, spoken, typed, forwarded and done things to further my own interests or unrighteous emotions, rather than considering the interests of others, and lacked the attitude of Christ's humility that prefers my neighbor's advantage, and forgotten to treat others as more important than myself, Phil 2:3-5. Such actions and attitudes that display such mixture tainted with the anger of man do not achieve the righteousness of God, James 1:19-20. Therefore, not using my bodily members as instruments of righteousness consistently, I confess with Isaiah, I've been a man of unclean lips, Isa 6:5, and confess like Peter, I am an unclean man, Luke 5:8.

Since our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them, transgressing and denying Yahweh, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood, Isa 59:12-13, at time, "Surely I have spoken of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know, therefore I despise my sins, and I repent from them in dust and ashes," Job 42:3, Job 42:6. Yet though You've disciplined me severely, You haven't given me over to death, Ps 118:18. I can say with the Psalmist, "It was good for me to be afflicted that I might learn the way of Your Commands," Ps 119:71. Let me make the most of Your discipline, knowing it's end result has many ends in mind, sanctification being a chief one, Even Jesus being the author, ἀρχηγὸν, ultimate architect, pioneer and engineer of our salvation, perfected through suffering, Heb 2:10, on earth and in flesh, the proving ground of obedience, becoming the ultimate fountain of salvation, Heb 5:8-9. Surely, there is One found Worthy, Rev 5:9.

Though beyond human capacity to bear at times tribulation transfers every drop of hope to You alone who raise the dead, 2 Cor 1:8-9, who has helped us and will yet again, others assisting us in prayers, 2 Cor 1:10-11, produces patience leading to maturity that we may also be complete, James 1:2-3, and though not pleasant at present, afterward yields not only perseverance, proven character but an abiding hope that does not disappoint, even granting assurance through The Holy Spirit of Adoption, Rom 5:3-5. May trials yield a harvest of peaceful fruit and righteousness, Heb 12:11, even an everlasting quietness and confidence, Isa 32:17, an everlasting crown of life, James 1:12, and ability to reign with You, as You overcame and reign in truth, humility and justice, Ps 45:4, Rev 3:19-21, Rev 21:7. We ask for grace to renew our minds, Rom 12:2, to rejoice in all these things knowing we are presently blessed and understanding their end is eternal reward, Matt 5:10-12, and that Your Intention is to work it all together for good, Rom 8:28, because You are indeed Gracious and Compassionate, Ex 34:4-5, as we see You were with Job, James 1:12. Let us pray for others and others pray for us knowing You have brought us through trials before, You will do so again, and that prayers are powerful and effective, 2 Cor 1:10-11, especially when we confess our struggles and sins to one another and pray for each other, Your promise is the prayers are powerful and effective, James 5:15-16, even as Elijah's, James 5:17-18... We join you in this humble confession and we agree with you before the Lord that His way for restoration is to humble ourselves, pray, seek His face and turn from our wicked ways, for it is written if my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land 2 Chron 7:14. We thank God that you have taken words with you and turned to the Lord as Hosea exhorted, Take words with you, and return to Yahweh. Tell him, Forgive all our sins, and accept that which is good: so we offer our lips like bulls Hos 14:2.

We see in your heart a true understanding of confession both personal and corporate as Daniel modeled while I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before Yahweh my God for the holy mountain of my God Dan 9:20. We affirm with you the promise that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 Jn 1:9 and that he who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy Prov 28:13. We also agree that we are to confess our sins to one another and pray for one another, that we may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective James 5:16.

You have rightly identified the struggle with the tongue and with anger and the need for grace. We all stumble in many things. Anyone who does not stumble in word is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also James 3:2 and yet no man can tame the tongue James 3:8. What is impossible with men is possible with God Luke 18:27. Therefore we do not trust in our own resolve to press a button and never stumble again, but we trust in His grace which is sufficient and His power which is perfected in weakness. As He said to Paul, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness 2 Cor 12:9. For that reason we can boast gladly in our weaknesses so that the power of Christ may rest on us and delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties, for when we are weak then we are strong 2 Cor 12:10. By faith even those who were weak were made strong Heb 11:34.

You have desired the right goal, that the goal of this command is love, out of a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith 1 Tim 1:5. This love is learned through discipline and through being slow to anger as the Lord revealed Himself as Yahweh, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth Ex 34:6. We are called to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger James 1:19 because the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God James 1:20. We acknowledge with you that in times of pain and in the flesh we have spoken and typed things with pride and empty conceit, not considering others more important than ourselves, forgetting the humility of Christ Phil 2:3, Phil 2:4, Phil 2:5 and not submitting to one another in the fear of Christ Eph 5:21. We confess with Isaiah, Woe is me for I am undone because I am a man of unclean lips Isa 6:5 and with Peter, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, Lord Luke 5:8. Our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us Isa 59:12.

We also rejoice with you that discipline though grievous is for our good. You have chastened me severely, but you have not given me over to death Ps 118:18 and it was good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn your statutes Ps 119:71. For all chastening seems for the present to be not joyous, but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been exercised thereby Heb 12:11. This produces patience and proven character and hope that does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit Rom 5:3, Rom 5:4, Rom 5:5, and works all things together for good for those who love God Rom 8:28. We remember that Jesus Himself was perfected through suffering Heb 2:10 and learned obedience through what He suffered and became the author of eternal salvation Heb 5:8, Heb 5:9.

We thank God that you have lifted up the name of Jesus Christ throughout your confession, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus 1 Tim 2:5. It is only through Him that we have confidence to draw near to the throne of grace that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need Heb 4:16. We continue abiding in Him and His words as branches in the vine John 15:5 and trusting His words which are spirit and are life John 6:63.

We pray together now.

Father, we humble ourselves before You and confess our sins and the sins of our people. We have sinned and fallen short of Your glory Rom 3:23, we have not always hearkened to Your voice nor taken the way of escape You faithfully provide 1 Cor 10:13. Forgive us for words spoken in anger, in pride, in haste, for using our members as instruments of unrighteousness instead of righteousness. Cleanse us from all unrighteousness and grant us mercy. Heal our land, heal our hearts, heal our tongues. Teach us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to become angry, and to tame our tongues by Your Spirit. Let Your grace be sufficient for us and Your power be perfected in our weakness. Renew our minds Rom 12:2 that we may walk as Jesus walked 1 Jn 2:6 and do no wrong 2 Cor 13:7 but control the whole body for Your glory. Grant us a harvest of righteousness and peace, a quietness and confidence forever Isa 32:17, and make us strong from weakness by faith. We ask that You help us to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling for it is You who works in us both to will and to work for Your good pleasure Phil 2:12, Phil 2:13. Receive our lips as an offering and answer us with gracious and comforting words Zech 1:13. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, believing that whatever we ask in His name He will do that the Father may be glorified John 14:13, John 14:14. Amen.

We were moved by your honesty and the tenderness toward God in what you wrote. Wanting so much to be finished with sin, to speak only what builds up and to love well even under pressure, is a holy desire. The grief you feel over words spoken in pride or anger shows God is at work in you, even when progress feels slow.

What you described fits what many believers find, that confession is less a single moment and more a steady practice that forms us over time. It is not just feeling sorry, which can leave us stuck, but a turning of the mind that begins to reshape how we act and speak. And the struggle with the tongue is not a sign you are alone in failure, it is a common place where growth happens gradually as we keep walking with the Spirit. Sanctification has a definite beginning in Christ and then an ongoing, patient part where we participate day by day.

One simple next step that may help is to bring one specific pattern, perhaps the quick anger or a recent harsh word, to one trusted pastor or mature believer this week, not in general terms but plainly, and ask him to pray with you and check in again. That kind of honest, face to face confession often loosens shame and makes change more concrete.

Father, we thank You for this heart that longs to please You. Give grace for today, mercy when we stumble, and strength to turn quickly to You. Form a gentle and truthful tongue, teach us to be slow to anger and quick to listen, and keep us abiding in Christ. Restore joy and quiet confidence as we walk with You. In Jesus name, amen.

Your confession is good and right before the Lord, and it is a hopeful sign when a soul is brought to take words and turn unto the Lord and say, Take away all iniquity and receive us graciously. The Scriptures you have quoted are true and stand together. If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. While Daniel was speaking and praying and confessing his sin and the sin of his people, the Lord heard. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that ye may be healed.

Take heed that your confession be first of all unto God. There are two particulars, confession and absolution, and the first must be made to Him who cannot be polluted by your iniquity. Make a plain and full confession before Him. The publican stood afar off and would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. That one word, a sinner, was the substance, but do you suppose that was all he confessed in secret before God. No, there he poured out the whole heart. So do you. Tell the Lord all. Keep nothing back. The excellence of penitence is lost if it be not spontaneous. Let it come from a willing heart without need of question or compulsion.

Yet before man, let your confession be general and not particular. Say with Isaiah, I am a man of unclean lips, and with Peter, I am a sinful man, O Lord. To your fellow creature add nothing to the general confession, I am a sinner. God alone can bear the full tale and cleanse it with blood.

You have well noted the sin of the tongue and the sin of anger and pride. The tongue can no man tame, but what is impossible with man is possible with God. Out of weakness were made strong. Some weakness is infirmity appointed by God and not sinful, but there is another weakness which springs from fallen nature and is sinful, and out of this we should desire to be delivered. It is the privilege of the Christian to be made strong out of weakness when that weakness is of a sinful kind. The man overcomes his weakness by faith, a holy faith gives him a holy courage, and the tongue once bound becomes unloosed. Your adversaries are many and your weakness has made you withhold testimony or speak amiss, but faith can make you strong to speak with grace.

You have also touched the true cure for pride and anger. Humility is to make a right estimate of oneself. It is not to think less of yourself than you ought, nor to put on a humble face while pride lives within. The throne of humility must be the heart. Seek of God the gift of true humility, for humility is genuine and the imitation of it is near akin to pride. Serving the Lord with all humility means humility before the service, humility during the service, and humility when all is done. Before honor is humility. Humility is the herald which ushers in the great King, it walks before honor, and he who has humility shall have honor afterward.

And humility is the friend of prayer. Prostrate before the throne is the proper attitude of supplication. Jacob showed his humility by confession of the Lord's working in all his prosperity, saying, I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all the truth which thou hast shewed unto thy servant. So come you also, not pleading merit but mercy. Be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to become angry, for the anger of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

You say you would press a button to be done with all future sin. That desire is itself a grace, but the Lord has appointed another way, a sanctification which is both a work done for you and a work wrought in you as you work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure. Chastening is not pleasant at present, but afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Even Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, was perfected through suffering and learned obedience by the things which He suffered, and He became the fountain of salvation unto all them that obey Him. Think not that Satan triumphs because you feel weak. Wonder rather at the power which keeps you at all. Whatever is our strength in the flesh is sure to be our weakness in the spirit, and whatever is our weakness in the flesh God can make the channel for spiritual strength. My grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Therefore most gladly will we glory in infirmities that the power of Christ may rest upon us.

With the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. There must be no confession with the mouth where there is not a believing with the heart. One avowal does not suffice. The confession unto salvation is the life long testimony of a changed spirit and a transformed life, seen in the family and in the whole of a man's affairs, not ticketed for show but lived before God. Do not borrow another man's experience. Let your own experience be what you profess, and say unmistakably, I am a Christian, trusting in Christ alone.

For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, and there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree. Unbelief is not humility. Humility trusts the Saviour. He that with his heart believeth and with his mouth maketh the good confession shall be saved.

May the Lord grant you to renew your mind and to find mercy and grace to help in time of need. He that covereth his sins shall not prosper, but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Turn from your wicked ways, seek His face, and trust His gracious and compassionate character, slow to anger and plenteous in mercy. He will hear, forgive, cleanse, and heal. May He tame your tongue, keep you from stumbling in word, and make you to walk as Christ also walked, to the praise of His grace.
