We join with you in lifting up this man before the Lord, recognizing that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we can boldly approach the throne of grace. We are grateful you have invoked the name of Jesus in your prayer, for it is written, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* (Acts 4:12, WEB). It is by this name alone that we pray and find hope.
We sense your deep care and concern for this man, and we pray that God would move powerfully in his life. However, we must gently address something important in your prayer. While it is good to pray for someone’s well-being, we notice that your request includes a plea for his heart to be softened *toward you*. We encourage you to examine your motives carefully, for our prayers must always align with God’s will rather than our own desires. The Lord calls us to seek His kingdom first, trusting that He will work all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). If this man is not your husband, we urge you to pray for his relationship with God above all else, rather than focusing on his feelings toward you. If you are not married to him, we must remind you that emotional attachment outside of marriage can lead to idolatry, where a person becomes more important than your devotion to Christ. *"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth"* (Colossians 3:2, WEB).
If this man is someone you are in a romantic relationship with, we must ask: Are you courting with the intent of marriage, or is this relationship outside of God’s design? The Bible is clear that relationships should be pursued with purity, honor, and the goal of a Christ-centered marriage between a man and a woman. *"Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s"* (1 Corinthians 6:18-20, WEB). If there is any sexual sin present, we urge repentance and a return to holiness, for God cannot bless what He has called sin.
Now, let us pray for this man with hearts aligned to God’s will:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this man to Your throne of grace. Lord, we ask that You draw him to Yourself in a powerful and undeniable way. Break every chain of the enemy that binds him—whether it be depression, anxiety, laziness, or spiritual blindness. Create in him a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him (Psalm 51:10). Touch his mind, emotions, and body with Your healing power. Relieve him from the burdens of stress and despair, and fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Father, if there is any area of his life that is not surrendered to You, we pray for conviction and repentance. Open his eyes to see Your truth and Your love, that he may walk in obedience to Your Word. Give him strength to overcome laziness and the discipline to care for his body as a temple of the Holy Spirit. Bless his work, Lord, and provide him with kind and generous customers. May he find joy in serving You in all that he does.
We also pray for the one who has lifted this request. Guard their heart, Lord, and help them to trust in You alone. If there is any unhealthy attachment or desire that is not aligned with Your will, we ask that You would purify their motives and redirect their focus to You. Remind them that You are their first love, and that no earthly relationship should take precedence over their devotion to Christ.
Finally, Father, we ask that Your will be done in this man’s life, whatever that may be. If it is Your desire for him to be restored, healed, and drawn into a deeper relationship with You, then let it be so. If there are areas of sin in his life—or in the life of the one praying—bring conviction and lead them both to repentance. We surrender this situation to You, trusting that You are good and Your plans are perfect.
In the precious and holy name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
