Faithful Servant
Please pray for me about Satan continually attacking me when it comes to church. I will literally get in an intrusive, foul mood that is hard to fight off where I want nothing to do with my church and eventually it will lift and I'll come back to my senses and realize my church members love and care about me. It's crazy. Thank you.

We hear your struggle and recognize the spiritual warfare you are facing. The enemy seeks to isolate and discourage believers, especially when it comes to fellowship with the body of Christ. Scripture warns us in 1 Peter 5:8-9, "Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Withstand him steadfast in your faith." These attacks are not random, they are deliberate attempts to weaken your faith and separate you from the love and support of your church family.

The moods and intrusive thoughts you describe are not from the Lord but from the enemy, who twists truth to make you doubt the genuine care of your brothers and sisters in Christ. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." You are not fighting alone, we stand with you in this battle, and more importantly, the Lord fights for you.

We also encourage you to examine your heart before the Lord. Are there any unresolved hurts, offenses, or unconfessed sin that the enemy might be using to gain a foothold? James 4:7 says, "Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Submission to God and resistance to the devil go hand in hand. Bring these struggles before the Lord in prayer, and consider sharing them with a trusted pastor or mature believer in your church who can pray with you and offer biblical counsel.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the One who has already defeated the enemy. Lord, we lift up our brother/sister to You, who is under attack from the devil when it comes to fellowship in Your house. We rebuke the spirit of isolation, discouragement, and foul moods that seeks to separate them from Your body. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we plead the blood of Jesus over their mind, heart, and spirit.

Father, strengthen them with Your might so that they can stand firm against these attacks. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) and remind them of the love and care their church family has for them. Help them to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) and to reject the lies of the enemy. Surround them with Your angels to guard and protect them in all their ways (Psalm 91:11).

Lord, if there is any area of their life where the enemy has gained a foothold, we ask that You reveal it to them in Your love and lead them to repentance. Cleanse them by the blood of Jesus and restore them fully to fellowship with You and Your people. We pray that they would not grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9) but would continue to gather with the saints, knowing that iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17).

We thank You, Father, that You are faithful and will not allow them to be tempted beyond what they can bear. With every temptation, You provide a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). We declare victory over this attack in Jesus’ name, for greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). May Your Holy Spirit fill them with joy, peace, and a renewed love for Your house. We ask all these things in the powerful, matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Hold fast to the truth, dear one. The enemy wants you to believe that you are alone, but you are not. The Lord has placed you in a family of believers who love and care for you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). Keep drawing near to God, and He will draw near to you (James 4:8). We encourage you to speak these attacks aloud when they come, declare the truth of God’s Word over them and resist the devil in Jesus’ name. You are not crazy; you are in a spiritual battle, and the victory is already yours in Christ. Stand firm, and do not give the enemy a foothold.

That back‑and‑forth can be exhausting and disorienting. We’re glad you brought it here, because it takes real clarity to recognize that a mood is intruding and not the truth about your church family.

For many of us, simply knowing that others are praying for us by name makes a genuine difference when our perspective warps. Even more, having someone actually pray with us in the thick of it, maybe a brief phone call or a few minutes before or after a service, can anchor us to what’s real. You already know your church members love and care for you once the fog lifts; you don’t have to wait for the lift before reaching out.

So here’s something concrete you could try: pick one trusted person in your congregation and let them in on the battle. Not a big explanation if you’re not ready, just something like, “Sometimes I get hit with a dark mood that makes me want to pull away, and I could use prayer when that happens.” Ask if they’d be willing to pray with you right when it strikes, or even just shoot you a message letting you know they’re standing with you. That simple connection can cut through the isolation those moods create and put the truth of their care right in front of you.

Lord, we ask for Your steady protection over our friend. When the intrusive moods come, disrupt them with the certainty of Your presence and the real love of this church family. Give courage to reach out instead of withdrawing, and bring someone alongside who will faithfully pray. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

This intrusion of foul moods, this sudden loathing of the very flock for whom Christ shed His blood, bears all the marks of Satan’s malice. He knows that a living coal plucked from the fire soon dies when separated from the heap, so he labors to roll you into isolation. You are not overcome yet, for in due season your senses return and you see the love your brethren bear you, but be not content with merely surfacing from these floods. Our text reads, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” The evil is that tempest of disgust; the good with which you must beat it back is the deliberate, determined act of drawing nearer to the very assembly your heart would flee. When the mood first whispers, take it as the signal to go to church, to speak with a saint, to serve the least among them. To use any other weapon is not only unlawful but impossible, for he who yields to the mood is no longer warring as a soldier of the cross.

Mark well when these attacks arise. Observe the times which preceded them. As with our Master’s temptation after seasons of special nearness to God, so it often is with us. Satan strikes when we think ourselves most secure. There is a word for those serene intervals when the foulness lifts and affection for the brethren revives: beware of carnal security then. The enemy retreats only to sharpen his sword. Walk in a perpetual holy caution, never thinking the battle wholly done this side of the veil.

Let the double name of Jacob and Israel comfort you. He who formed you knows the natural weakness, the craven shrinking, the supplanting Jacob within, and He also beholds the new nature, the Israel who will not let Him go except He bless. His covenant is with the whole man, the whole vile but redeemed creature. And did Jonathan love David so that he stripped himself of his robe to clothe him? How much more has Christ stripped Himself of heavenly ease to wrap His loveliness around you! He bound Himself to you with cords of everlasting love, and His table spread in the assembly is the pledge of that bond. Shall you then consent to have your seat empty at that feast because a lying mood suggests your brethren do not care? It is in the very company you are tempted to despise that the incarnate Lord manifests His presence. Despise the Lord, then, if you despise His bride.

Remember, too, that when we are crushed under such burdens, the natural impulse is to complain or to make a noise of moaning. David did so, but the Spirit bids us, “Cast thy burden upon the Lord.” There is a something we are tempted to do, flee the means of grace, brood in a corner, nurse the grievance, but the better way is to lay the whole weight upon Him who careth for you, and then to walk into the gathering of His saints as one who has no business but to wait upon the Beloved. If the adversary cannot destroy us, he is well enough pleased to make us miserable, that our sourness might justify the world in its scorn. Let it not be said that you have given comfort to sinners by withdrawing from the flock and so appearing as one whose Lord cannot satisfy His own household. Overcome evil with good; fight the foulness with the full, hearty, present-tense fellowship of saints. And when you have done all, stand firm, for the promise is to him that overcometh. Heap coals of fire on the tempter’s head by loving where he sows hatred, and by cleaving to that company which, in your best moments, you know to be the very gate of heaven.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

It is no wonder that the devil assails you most fiercely when you would draw near to the church. He sees your brothers and sisters banded together in love, and he cannot endure it; so he labors to cast a foul mood upon you, to isolate you, to make you think you want nothing to do with them. This is his ancient tactic. Did he not fall upon the first woman when she was alone, apart from her husband? Even so, he seeks to tear you from the body of Christ, knowing that a Christian alone is easy prey.

When that dark intrusion comes, do not believe it. It is a lying spirit, not your own heart. The very fact that you later come to your senses and see the love of your church members proves that the foul mood is a foreign attack. Our Lord Himself was called mad and a demoniac; shall the servant be above the Master? If such thoughts were hurled at Him, will not the enemy try to poison your mind with sudden disgust? Consider Christ, and let the insult pass over you.

The remedy is not to withdraw but to press in all the more. You have the greatest need at that moment to be flocking together, not to be alone. Force yourself to stay, or if you have stumbled and left, run back swiftly. The devil would have you brood in solitude, but the Spirit renews the mind in the communion of the saints. We will lift up our voice with one accord for you, for this kind of affliction requires much prayer and entreaty. Only do not surrender to the mood. Stand, resist, and the enemy will flee.
