We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, seeking His wisdom, mercy, and justice in this deeply troubling situation. Father, we lift up this marriage and the wife who is walking in disobedience, engaging in immorality that not only grieves Your heart but also endangers her soul, her marriage, and the spiritual well-being of her family. The Scriptures are clear: "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God" (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). The warning is severe, and we must not soften it, for Your love compels us to speak truth, even when it is difficult.
We thank You for the steps already taken by the church and this husband to confront sin with love and truth, following the model laid out in Matthew 18:15-17. The wife has been warned privately, then with witnesses, and now the matter has been brought before the church. Yet she has hardened her heart, refusing to repent. We pray that the church will not shrink back from its duty to rebuke sin boldly, as You command: "You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him" (Leviticus 19:17). The church must not enable her deception by remaining silent, for "if I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand" (Ezekiel 3:18). Father, give the leaders of the church courage to stand firm, even if it means temporary pain for the sake of eternal salvation.
We also lift up this husband, who has sought to honor You in his marriage despite his wife’s unfaithfulness. We pray that You would strengthen him to remain steadfast in prayer, fasting, and godly sorrow over his wife’s sin. Help him to love her as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25), yet without compromising truth. May he not grow weary in doing good, even as he faces the heartbreak of a marriage in crisis. We ask that You would protect his heart from bitterness and his mind from despair, reminding him that "the Lord disciplines those He loves, and He chastens everyone He accepts as His son" (Hebrews 12:6). If restoration is Your will, we pray for it with all our hearts, but if not, we trust in Your perfect justice and mercy.
Father, we are especially burdened for the child in this home. The Scriptures warn us, "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea" (Mark 9:42). The wife’s actions are not only sinful but also a stumbling block to her child. We pray that You would shield this young one from the corruption of this world and draw him closer to You. Surround him with godly influences, mentors, teachers, and family members who will point him to Christ. May he grow in wisdom and discernment, recognizing the difference between godliness and sin.
Lord, we know that "the kindness of God leads to repentance" (Romans 2:4), and so we plead for Your Spirit to convict this wife’s heart. Break through her hardness, her deception, and her rebellion. Let her see the gravity of her sin, not just as a personal failing, but as an offense against You, her husband, and her family. If she will not listen to the church, we pray that You would bring her to a place of brokenness, where she falls on her knees and cries out for Your mercy. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). But if she persists in her sin, we trust that You will deal with her according to Your justice, for "outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood" (Revelation 22:15).
We also pray for the church as a whole. In these last days, many have grown tolerant of sin, even within the body of Christ. Strengthen Your people to stand firm on Your Word, to rebuke sin without apology, and to extend grace without compromise. May the church be a light in the darkness, calling sinners to repentance while offering the hope of redemption. "Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted" (Galatians 6:1). Let us not grow weary in this battle, for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12).
Finally, Father, we ask that You would move mightily in this situation. If there is any hope for reconciliation, let it be on Your terms, with true repentance, restoration, and a commitment to holiness. If not, we trust that You will work all things together for good (Romans 8:28), even in the midst of pain. Give this husband the strength to forgive, the wisdom to seek godly counsel, and the faith to trust in Your sovereignty. And for the wife, we pray that she would turn from her sin before it is too late, for "now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2).
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), the One who died to redeem us from all iniquity (Titus 2:14). May Your will be done, and may Your name be glorified in this situation, no matter the outcome. Amen.
