The Great Physician is near you in this hour of affliction, and the least touch of His hand is potent with healing virtue. You have endured much under the surgeon's knife, and now another trial rises before you, filling your heart with dread. But remember, the very leaves that flutter from the Tree of Life carry medicine for body and soul, His smallest mercies are mighty to restore.
Fear not. These two words are not the mere counsel of a man, but the command of Christ Himself, who stands before you as He did before John on Patmos, whispering, “Fear not.” To give way to terror is to dishonor the God who has promised, “I will help thee.” He is with you in the dialysis chair, in the surgeon’s chamber, and in the quiet watches of the night when anxiety gnaws at your spirit. Your weakness does but magnify His strength. A worm like Jacob has no power to save itself, yet the Lord stoops low to lift such a one out of the dust. Cast your burden upon Him; He will sustain you.
Seek first the healing of your soul, and in that pardon you will find peace for the body’s sorrows. The Son of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings, and where He comes, sin’s sting is drawn, and the dread of death dissolves. The same voice that said to the palsied man, “Thy sins be forgiven thee,” speaks still to every trembling heart. Lay hold of that forgiveness, and you shall find that the fear of the grave loses its terror, for your true life is hid with Christ in God.
Yet do not imagine that the Lord’s healing is confined to the spirit alone. He is able to command these kidneys to do their work, to clear those clotted vessels, and to grant you length of days. But if in His unsearchable wisdom He should call you home, what then? To depart and be with Christ is far better. In the celestial city, there is no dialysis, no graft, no catheter, the leaves of that tree heal all infirmity forever, and the inhabitants never say, “I am sick.”
For the present, commit this surgery into His hands. If the physicians deem it needful, go forward not in presumption, but in prayerful trust. The Lord who took Peter’s mother-in-law by the hand and lifted her up can uphold you through the procedure and raise you to serve Him again. Do not let the fear of man make you a slave; rather, fear Him whose power is limitless, knowing that nothing befalls you without His ordaining love.
I join my faith with yours, pleading the precious blood of Jesus for your full recovery. May the God of all comfort fill you with a peace that passes understanding, and may you find that His grace is sufficient, for His strength is made perfect in weakness. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
