Faithful Servant
Please pray regarding a Christian community that I have been active in which upholds the truth of the gospel really well and can be very edifying but which seems to have a troubling pattern of being blind to their own faults while also chronically engaging in judgmental, arrogant behavior. While I respect and am grateful for this community for how it has been used in my walk as a Christian, I have a lot of resentment building toward them over time due to the problems I've mentioned here. Thank you.

We hear your heart, and we understand the deep conflict you feel—grateful for the truth this community has shared with you, yet burdened by the pain of their blind spots and the resentment taking root in your own spirit. This tension is not uncommon in the body of Christ, where even those who hold fast to sound doctrine can struggle with humility and love. The apostle Paul warned the Corinthians, who were rich in spiritual gifts yet divided by pride, *"For who makes you different? And what do you have that you didn’t receive? But if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?"* (1 Corinthians 4:7 WEB). Even the most biblically grounded communities are not immune to the flesh’s tendency toward self-righteousness.

Your resentment is a heavy weight, and Scripture is clear that bitterness defiles many (Hebrews 12:15). It is right to acknowledge the hurt, but we must also guard our hearts against allowing offense to take root. Jesus Himself taught, *"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses"* (Matthew 6:14-15 WEB). This is not to minimize the wrongs you’ve observed, but to remind us all that unforgiveness only harms the one who holds onto it.

We must also examine whether this community’s judgmental spirit is a reflection of their own unaddressed sin. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees, who were meticulous in their outward obedience yet hypocritical in their hearts: *"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness"* (Matthew 23:27 WEB). A community that is quick to point out the specks in others’ eyes while ignoring the logs in their own (Matthew 7:3-5) is in danger of quenching the Holy Spirit’s work of conviction and repentance.

Yet we must also ask: Have you lovingly and humbly addressed these concerns with them? Galatians 6:1-2 instructs, *"Brothers, even if a man is caught in some fault, you who are spiritual must restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to yourself so that you also aren’t tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."* If you have not yet spoken the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), we encourage you to prayerfully consider whether the Lord may be calling you to be a vessel of grace and correction in this community. If you have, and they have rejected your words, then your responsibility is to continue walking in love and entrust them to the Lord.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the perfect example of truth and grace. Lord, we lift up this brother/sister who is wrestling with resentment toward a community that has been both a blessing and a stumbling block. Father, we ask that You would soften their heart and help them to release this bitterness, knowing that unforgiveness only harms the one who carries it. Fill them with Your love, which covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8), and give them the strength to forgive as You have forgiven them.

Lord, we also pray for this Christian community. We ask that You would open their eyes to their own faults and humble their hearts. Convict them of any pride, judgmentalism, or arrogance that has taken root, and lead them to repentance. May they see that even in their zeal for truth, they must walk in love, for *"if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but don’t have love, I am nothing"* (1 Corinthians 13:2 WEB). Father, raise up godly leaders within this community who will shepherd Your people with humility and grace, and may the Holy Spirit move powerfully to restore unity and love.

Father, we ask that You would guide this brother/sister in how to respond. If there is a word of correction You would have them speak, give them the courage and wisdom to do so in love. If the time has come to step away, give them peace and lead them to a community where they can grow in both truth and grace. Above all, Lord, may Your name be glorified in all of this. We ask these things in the precious name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Amen.

We encourage you to meditate on Colossians 3:12-14: *"Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection."* May the Lord fill you with His peace as you seek to honor Him in this situation.

I understand your struggle, dear friend. It's like walking a tightrope, grateful for the truth held by this community yet burdened by their blind spots and your growing resentment. It's easy to focus on their faults, but let's remember, we all have logs in our own eyes (Matthew 7:3-5). Let's strive for humility, acknowledging our own need for grace.

I've felt a similar tension in communities I've been part of. It's a reminder that even in the body of Christ, we're all works in progress. The apostle Paul warned the Corinthians about this very issue (1 Corinthians 4:7). Even the most biblically grounded communities aren't immune to the flesh's tendency towards self-righteousness.

Your resentment is a heavy weight, and bitterness can defile many (Hebrews 12:15). It's important to acknowledge the hurt, but we must also guard our hearts against allowing offense to take root. Jesus taught us, "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don't forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses" (Matthew 6:14-15).

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to thank you for trusting us with your burden and allowing us to stand with you in prayer these past days. It is a sacred privilege to lift up not only your heart but also the community that has played such a meaningful role in your walk with Christ. We have prayed for wisdom—both for you and for the leaders and members of this group—that God would soften hearts, open eyes to blind spots, and replace pride with humility. We asked the Lord to heal the resentment in your spirit, replacing it with His peace and grace, even as He works in ways we cannot always see.

If the Lord has already begun to answer these prayers—whether through a change in the community, a shift in your own heart, or a fresh perspective—we would love to hear your praise report so we can rejoice with you. If, however, the struggle remains and you still feel the weight of this situation, please do not hesitate to post it again. We are here to continue praying alongside you, trusting that God is at work even when the answers are not yet clear.

May the Father draw near to you in this season, reminding you of His love and the truth that He alone is the perfect Judge. May He give you grace to extend to others as He has so generously extended it to you, and may He use even this trial to refine your faith and deepen your dependence on Him. We pray all these things in the powerful and precious name of Jesus. Amen.
