Bread of Heaven/Word of Life/ Jesus is the word of God

Isaiah 8:3:
And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me, Call his name Mahershalalhashbaz.

The prophet is to write on a large roll, or on a metal tablet, words which meant, Make speed to spoil, hasten to the prey: pointing out that the Assyrian army should come with speed, and make great spoil. Very soon the riches of Damascus and of Samaria, cities then secure and formidable, shall be taken away by the king of Assyria. The prophet pleads with the promised Messiah, who should appear in that land in the fulness of time, and, therefore, as God, would preserve it in the mean time. As a gentle brook is an apt emblem of a mild government, so an overflowing torrent represents a conqueror and tyrant. The invader's success was also described by a bird of prey, stretching its wings over the whole land. Those who reject Christ, will find that what they call liberty is the basest slavery. But no enemy shall pluck the believer out of Emmanuel's hand, or deprive him of his heavenly inheritance.

Isaiah 8:3 points forward to Jesus Christ in several ways. Like Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz, Jesus’ life and name carry profound significance. Where Isaiah’s son represented swift judgment, Jesus embodies salvation and hope. Isaiah’s prophecies, including this one, ultimately lead to the promise of Immanuel-fulfilled in Jesus (Matthew 1:22-23). Christ came to bear the judgment for sin, offering grace and redemption to those who trust in Him.

Isaiah 8:3 is a powerful reminder that God’s word is faithful and true, that He is deeply involved in both personal and global events, and that His ultimate plan is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who brings hope to all who believe in Him.

Prayer for Matthew 1:22:
“Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:”

Praying through Matthew 1:22: Our prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the Gospel of Matthew and the beautiful way that he links the truth of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ, with the many Old Testament prophecies that foretold of His life and ministry, His sacrificial death, and glorious Resurrection. Thank You for telling us the end from the beginning so that we might know the truth and be set free from slavery to sin, by faith in Him. Give us a greater understanding of Your Word and more insight into the plan of redemption which threads its way throughout the Old and New Testaments. Help us to grow in grace and in a knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, in Whose name we pray, AMEN

We rejoice in the truth that Jesus Christ, the Bread of Heaven and Word of Life, is the fulfillment of God’s promises from the beginning. Your reflection on Isaiah 8:3 and its connection to Matthew 1:22-23 beautifully highlights how God’s Word is eternal, unchanging, and perfectly fulfilled in Christ. The name *Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz*—meaning "swift to the plunder, quick to the spoil"—serves as a sobering reminder of God’s judgment, but it also points forward to the One who would bear that judgment on our behalf. Jesus, our Immanuel, came not to bring swift destruction, but to offer grace, redemption, and hope to all who trust in Him.

The prophecy of Isaiah, like all Scripture, testifies of Christ (John 5:39). He is the promised Messiah, the fulfillment of every shadow and type in the Old Testament. When we read of the prophet’s son or the sign of Immanuel, we see glimpses of the greater reality: God with us, not just in judgment, but in mercy. Jesus took the full weight of sin’s penalty upon Himself so that we might be reconciled to the Father. As Isaiah 53:5 declares, *"But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed."*

Your prayer for Matthew 1:22 is a powerful acknowledgment of God’s faithfulness to His Word. We join with you in thanking the Father for the way Scripture—from Genesis to Revelation—unfolds His redemptive plan. The Old Testament is not merely a collection of ancient stories; it is the foundation upon which the gospel stands. Every prophecy, every sacrifice, every promise finds its "yes" and "amen" in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20). We pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to illuminate these truths in our hearts, deepening our understanding of God’s love and His sovereign plan.

Let us also remember that the same Word that declares judgment on sin also offers salvation to sinners. The Assyrian invasion in Isaiah’s day was a consequence of Judah’s rebellion, just as the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Yet God, in His mercy, provided a way of escape—not through our own efforts, but through faith in His Son. This is the heart of the gospel: *"For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life"* (John 3:16). If there is anyone reading this who has not placed their trust in Jesus, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sin, turn from it, and receive the free gift of salvation through Christ alone.

We pray now, lifting up this truth before the throne of grace:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word, which is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. Thank You for the way it reveals Your character, Your holiness, and Your love. We praise You for Jesus, the fulfillment of every promise, the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Lord, open our eyes to see Christ in all of Scripture, that we might grow in wisdom, faith, and obedience. Guard our hearts from the deception of this world, and help us to walk in the light of Your truth. May we never take for granted the incredible gift of salvation, purchased for us by the blood of Your Son. Strengthen us to live as ambassadors of Your kingdom, sharing the hope of the gospel with those who are lost. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and King. Amen.

To those who may be struggling with doubt or uncertainty, we encourage you to meditate on the faithfulness of God. He has kept every promise, and He will continue to do so. The same God who spoke through Isaiah and sent His Son to die for us is still on the throne today. Cling to His Word, for it is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). If you are in a season of waiting, remember that God’s timing is perfect. He is working all things together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Trust in Him, and He will guide your steps.

We're right there with you, brother. What a powerful reminder Isaiah 8:3 is, pointing us to Jesus, the Word made flesh. It's amazing how God's plan of redemption threads its way through the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. We're grateful for the gift of Scripture, aren't we? It's like a treasure map, leading us to the greatest treasure of all - Jesus Christ.

We join you in thanking the Father for His faithfulness to His Word. It's incredible to think that every promise, every prophecy, every story in the Old Testament finds its 'yes' and 'amen' in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20). It's all about Him, isn't it?

Let's continue to pray for a deeper understanding of God's Word. Let's ask the Holy Spirit to open our eyes to see Christ in all of Scripture, that we might grow in wisdom, faith, and obedience. And let's not forget to share this good news with others. The world needs to know about the hope we have in Jesus.

Keep trusting, keep seeking, and keep sharing, dear friend. God is faithful, and He's working all things together for our good and His glory. Let's keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

Seek His Face and Presence not just His hand. In his Presence is everything you need. This does not mean you can have any material thing, perfect spouse because you asked for it in Jesus Christ name. You will have your needs, some of your wants, and difficult trials. The difficult trials are supposed to refine your character and make you more like Jesus. He is more interested in getting you to everlasting life and having your heart in the right place than he is in giving you gifts. It’s eternal life he’s concerned with.
