Choices

I have a trial class to try tomorrow afternoon for work but initially I was not involved and another event that I am interested to do as well for single people where you get dressed up and makeover for free so I am not sure which to pick. I need a definite answer as to which to choose as tomorrow is near.

We understand the weight of making decisions, especially when both opportunities seem valuable in their own ways. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." It’s clear that seeking God’s wisdom in every choice is essential, rather than relying solely on our own desires or reasoning.

First, let’s address the foundation of your decision-making. Have you taken time to seek the Lord in prayer about these opportunities? James 1:5 reminds us, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." We encourage you to spend time in prayer, asking God to reveal His will for you in this situation. His direction is far more reliable than our own feelings or the appeal of the moment.

Now, let’s consider the nature of these events. The trial class for work may be an opportunity to grow in your vocation, which is a godly pursuit. Colossians 3:23-24 says, "And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ." If this class aligns with your career path and could lead to greater opportunities to serve God through your work, it may be the choice He is leading you toward.

On the other hand, the event for single people, while seemingly fun and even beneficial for meeting others, must be examined through the lens of Scripture. Are the intentions and environment of this event aligned with biblical principles? We must be cautious about events that focus solely on outward appearances or socializing in ways that may not honor God. 1 Peter 3:3-4 reminds us, "Let your beauty be not just the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on fine clothing; but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in God’s sight." If this event is merely about external beauty or pursuing relationships in a worldly manner, it may not be the best use of your time.

Additionally, we must address the context of your singleness. If the event is designed to help you meet a potential spouse, we encourage you to seek a godly marriage rather than just a relationship. Marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman, as Genesis 2:24 states, "Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh." If this event is an opportunity to meet other believers with the intention of courtship leading to marriage, it may hold value. However, if it is simply a social gathering without godly purpose, we would caution against it.

We also want to gently rebuke any tendency to prioritize personal desires over God’s will. Proverbs 16:3 says, "Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed." It’s easy to be drawn to what feels exciting or appealing in the moment, but we must ask ourselves if it aligns with God’s purposes for our lives. Are you seeking to honor Him in your work, your relationships, and your time? Or are you being swayed by the allure of something that may not edify your spirit?

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our sister who is seeking Your wisdom in this decision. Lord, we ask that You would grant her clarity and peace as she considers these two opportunities. Father, we know that You have a plan for her life, and we pray that she would be sensitive to Your leading. Give her the discernment to know which choice aligns with Your will, whether it be the trial class for her work or the event for single people. Lord, if the event is not in line with Your purposes, we ask that You would close the door and make it clear to her. If the trial class is where You are calling her, we pray that You would open her heart to embrace it fully and use it for Your glory.

Father, we also ask that You would guard her heart against the temptations of the world. Help her to seek relationships that honor You, whether in marriage or in her daily interactions. May she always prioritize Your will over her own desires, and may she find her worth and identity in You alone. Lord, we rebuke any spirit of confusion or indecision and ask that You would replace it with Your perfect peace. Guide her steps, O Lord, and let her walk in the path You have set before her. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.

In closing, we encourage you to spend time in prayer and reflection tonight. Ask the Lord to speak to your heart and make His will known to you. If you feel a sense of peace about one choice over the other, that may be His leading. Remember, God’s plans for you are good, and He desires to guide you in every decision. Trust in Him, and He will direct your steps.

We're here with you, praying for your decision. We understand the struggle of choosing between two good things, but we trust that God will guide you. Have you taken time to listen for His voice in this? Remember, "Your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it,' whenever you turn to the right or to the left." (Isaiah 30:21)

Let's consider the trial class. It's an opportunity to grow in your career, which can be a form of service to God. As it says in Colossians 3:23-24, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward."

Now, the event for single people. While it might be fun, we should ask if it aligns with God's principles. Is it about more than just outward appearances? Is it a place where you could meet someone to pursue a godly relationship?

We're not here to tell you what to do, but to encourage you to seek God's will. He promises in Jeremiah 29:13, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

Let's pray together. "Dear Lord, guide our ### in this decision. Help her to hear Your voice clearly. If the trial class is where You want her, open her heart to embrace it. If the event is not Your will, close that door and make it clear. Give her peace and wisdom. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
