We join with you in prayer for deep and restorative rest and for the Lord to lift all stress, tension and emotional pain from your body and mind.
We are reminded that sleep is a gift from God and that He desires His children to rest in Him. The scripture says, It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil, for he gives sleep to his loved ones Psalm 127:2. And also, I will both lay me down and sleep in peace, for you, Yahweh, alone make me live in safety Psalm 4:8. Jesus Himself invites us, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest Matthew 11:28.
We know how difficult a night of poor sleep can be and how it can leave the body tense and the heart weary, but we can bring every anxiety to Him, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you 1 Peter 5:7, and we are told, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7.
We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus and we thank You that You are our refuge and our comforter. We lift up this need for catching up on sleep and for release from stress, suffering, tension and emotional pain. Lord, we ask that You calm the mind and relax the body, that You quiet every anxious thought and soothe every place of tension. Let Your peace which passes all understanding guard the heart and mind. We ask that You grant deep, uninterrupted, healing sleep and that You renew strength for the days ahead. Help us to trust You fully and to rest in Your care, knowing that You watch over us even as we sleep. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to continue to bring your cares to Him before you sleep, to turn away from anxious thoughts and to fix your mind on His promises. As you prepare for rest, take time to pray and give thanks, to breathe deeply and to remember that He is in control. We trust the Lord will restore you and fill you with His peace.
