Cartoon Shirt

Snuireingate

Servant of All
Dear Lord Jesus, Well, I don’t wanna be greedy about my shirt. I just wanna get one for the year like I do every year. It’s just a Christmas tradition. I love to do. Please let me get it before the year ends please I don’t have tattoos or piercings that can be harmful and far more expensive. This is cheap fun affordable. And more innocent Not any cartoons that bash you or trash you. Just good old classics. But I’m being yelled at for loving my tradition and told it’s childish and stupid. I’ve had enough of that. Please let me get my shirt. In Jesus Name Amen.

We hear your heart, dear brother or sister in Christ, and we understand the joy and comfort that traditions can bring. It’s clear you find happiness in this simple, innocent expression of your love for classic cartoons, and we want to affirm that there is nothing inherently sinful in enjoying wholesome entertainment. The Bible encourages us to take delight in the Lord and the good things He provides, as Psalm 37:4 tells us, *"Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart."* However, we must also consider whether our traditions or desires align with God’s will and whether they become a stumbling block to others or ourselves.

First, let us address the tension you’re experiencing from those around you. It’s painful to be criticized for something that brings you joy, especially when it’s not harmful. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, *"A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."* While their words may feel unfair, we encourage you to respond with gentleness and humility, even if you disagree. It’s possible they see something in this tradition that you don’t—perhaps it has become an idol in your heart, or they fear it distracts from more meaningful ways to celebrate Christ’s birth. We must always examine our hearts to ensure our traditions don’t replace the true reason for the season: the birth of our Savior.

That said, we also want to gently challenge the idea that this tradition is entirely innocent if it’s causing division or strife in your relationships. Romans 14:19 urges us, *"So then, let us follow after things which make for peace, and things by which we may build one another up."* If this shirt is causing conflict, it may be worth asking the Lord if this is the right time to pursue it or if He has something better in store for you. Perhaps He wants to use this situation to draw you closer to Him or to teach you patience and grace in the face of criticism.

We also want to address the comparison you made between this tradition and tattoos or piercings. While it’s true that some body modifications can be costly or harmful, the Bible does speak directly to tattoos in Leviticus 19:28, *"You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am Yahweh."* Though this is part of the Old Testament law, it reflects God’s desire for His people to honor their bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). However, the issue here isn’t about tattoos but about where we place our joy and identity. If this tradition is something you cling to more tightly than your relationship with Christ, it may be time to surrender it to Him.

Now, let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who has shared this request. Lord, we thank You for the joy and comfort that traditions can bring, but we ask that You would search their heart and reveal anything that may be taking Your place. Father, if this tradition is pure and brings glory to You, we ask that You would open the door for them to obtain this shirt in Your perfect timing. But if this desire is causing strife or distraction, we ask that You would replace it with a deeper hunger for You.

Lord, we pray for those who have criticized them. Soften their hearts, Father, and help them to see the good in this tradition if it aligns with Your will. Give our brother/sister the wisdom to respond with gentleness and grace, even in the face of harsh words. Teach them to find their identity and joy in You alone, not in the things of this world.

Father, we also ask that You would help them to keep Christ at the center of this season. May they find true delight in celebrating Your birth and sharing Your love with others. If this shirt is part of that celebration, we trust You to provide it. If not, we ask that You would replace it with something even better—something that draws them closer to You.

We pray all of this in the precious name of Jesus, the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved. Amen.

In closing, we encourage you to spend time in prayer and reflection, asking the Lord to reveal whether this tradition is something He wants you to continue or surrender. Remember, God’s plans for you are always good (Jeremiah 29:11), and He may have something even more fulfilling in store. Trust in Him, and He will direct your steps (Proverbs 3:5-6). If this shirt is meant to be yours, He will provide it in His perfect timing. If not, He will replace it with something far greater—His peace, His presence, and His joy.

Hey there,

We've been thinking about your prayer request and we totally get where you're coming from. We love traditions too, and it's so special when they bring us joy and remind us of good times. We're right there with you, cheering you on.

We know it's tough when people don't understand or appreciate our traditions. But remember, Jesus said, "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me" (Matthew 5:11). It's not easy, but it's a chance for us to show the love and grace of Jesus.

We also want to encourage you to keep your heart open to the Lord's leading. If this tradition is causing a rift, maybe it's time to pause and ask Him if there's something else He wants you to focus on this year. Maybe He wants to use this to grow your patience or to remind you that your joy comes from Him, not from a shirt.

But hey, if you genuinely feel this is a good tradition that brings you joy and doesn't harm anyone, then we're here to support you. Let's trust that the Lord will work it out in His perfect timing.

So, let's pray together:

"Dear Lord, we come to you today, asking for your wisdom and guidance. Help ### to navigate this situation with grace and patience. If this tradition is from you, Lord, please open the doors for them to get the shirt. But if it's causing division, help them to let it go and find their joy in you. Help them to respond to criticism with kindness and humility, just as Jesus would. And Lord, we ask that you would help them, and all of us, to keep Christ at the center of our celebrations this season. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Keep trusting, keep praying, and keep shining your light, friend! We're right there with you.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
