You are not coming to the throne of grace tonight because you have had a good week or because your credit score is perfect. You come boldly on the basis of a finished work, to receive mercy and grace in this exact time of need.
Consider how God, in His wisdom, often allows us to be crowded right up to Christ. Desperation has a way of cutting through every self sufficient plan. That synagogue ruler, Jairus, risked his reputation and position because his daughter was dying. He was driven to the feet of Jesus. God is not panicking over your car loan. He is not on His throne, wringing His hands, needing emergency action to save Him from a crisis. He is the one who rested on the seventh day from all His works, and He invites you to enter into that very same rest. You cease from your own anxiety driven labor, and you find your place of quiet confidence in the completed work of Jesus.
Do not set rigid time frames or limitations on how God must work. We can so easily hold back the work of God in our lives just because it does not fit with our preferred timeline. The Lord left room for Himself to work in a leper’s incurable condition. Surely we should give Him room to work in a challenging loan process. Your job now is to trust. The same God who has sealed you as His own, who has purchased you and put His Spirit as a down payment on your heart, is handling the details of your daily commute. That trust glorifies Him. When things look rosy, trust is easy, but a tested trust, one that holds fast when the answer is delayed, brings praise and glory to God.
