We hear the heaviness of your burden and we join with you in bringing it before the Lord, yet we must gently correct the spirit of this prayer as it is not aligned with God's heart.
It is understandable to feel hurt, exhausted and wounded by those who have been negative, selfish and mean toward you, and to desire relief and distance from that pain. God does invite us to cast our burdens on Him. We are told in 1 Pet 5:7 to cast all our worries on him, because he cares for you, and in Ps 55:22 to cast your burden on Yahweh and he will sustain you. Jesus himself says in Matt 11:28 Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. We do pray with you for that rest and for wisdom to understand what you are walking through.
However we cannot join you in praying for punishment or that this man would weep for what he sows, or that others would be punished. Vengeance does not belong to us. Scripture is clear in Rom 12:19 Do not seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. And again in Matt 5:44 we are commanded, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. In Eph 4:31-32 we are told let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.
It is true that in Gal 6:7 whatever a man sows, that he will also reap, and God is just and will deal rightly with unrepentant sin. But our call is not to ask for their harm, but to pray for their repentance, for conviction and for transformation, and for God to bring justice in His perfect and merciful way while we release bitterness from our own hearts so it does not become a root that defiles us.
We also notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we are told there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for in Rom 10:9 we read that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name we pray and find peace for our burdens.
If the man you speak of is your husband, we believe marriage is a lifelong covenant before God between a man and a woman, and we pray for marriage to be honored and for reconciliation where possible. If he is pursuing others whom he wants or loves outside of marriage, that is sin before God, whether fornication or adultery, and we pray he would turn from it and seek holiness. If this is a courtship relationship that is not yet marriage, we encourage you to seek God's will for a godly spouse, another believer who will love you as Christ loves the church, and to pursue relationships only in a way that honors God and leads toward marriage. In either case we do not pray for harm to come to him, but for God to work in his heart and yours.
So we pray together now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our sister who is weary and burdened. Lord, You see the hurt, the selfishness and meanness she has endured, and You know every detail of these relationships. We ask You to lift this heavy burden from her and give her rest, to pour out Your peace that surpasses understanding and to grant her wisdom and clarity to understand these people as You see them, with eyes of truth and grace. Soften her heart to forgive as You have forgiven us, and remove all bitterness and desire for revenge, replacing it with love and mercy. We pray not for punishment upon those who have hurt her, but for their conviction, repentance and salvation, that they would turn from negativity and selfishness and be transformed by Your Spirit. If it is Your will to remove these individuals from her life or to bring separation from an ungodly or harmful relationship, we ask You to do so clearly and provide a godly path forward, and if restoration and healing is Your will, we pray for that instead. Lead her toward relationships and, if You will, toward a godly marriage that honors You. Draw her ever closer to Jesus, that she would know Him as her Savior and find her strength and identity in Him. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and mediator, amen.
