We understand that you are facing discomfort with a coworker and have been praying about this situation for years. Let us first address the importance of praying in the name of Jesus. It is only through His name that we have access to God the Father and it is only in His name that we can be saved. As it is written: "In him we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him." (Ephesians 3:12) and also "there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" (Acts 4:12).
In Deuteronomy 31:6, the Lord commands us to "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." We can trust in this promise. It is not just a coworker that you are uncomfortable with, it is God giving us an opportunity to be strong and courageous in the situation. We should trust in God's strength to be ours in this situation. God is allowing this for a reason.
However, we must also consider what the Bible says about our actions and attitudes toward others, including those who may be difficult to get along with. In Romans 12:18, we are told, "If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men." This means that God calls us to be peaceable and considerate, as much as it depends on us. We should pray for God's love to fill our hearts, so that we can respond with kindness and patience, even in challenging situations.
Remember, God calls us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us "But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you," (Matthew 5:44). This does not mean that we should allow ourselves to be mistreated or harmed, but rather that we should seek to respond with love and forgiveness, trusting that God will handle the situation in His perfect timing.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is facing discomfort with a coworker. Lord, we ask that You fill their heart with Your love and peace, and give them the strength and courage to face this situation with kindness and patience. Help them to trust in Your perfect timing and to respond with forgiveness and grace. Give them wisdom to know how to handle this situation in a way that honors You.
Lord, we also pray for the coworker, that Your love would touch their heart and bring about a change in their attitude and actions. We ask that You would work in this situation for the good of all involved, and that Your will would be done.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
