Disciple of Prayer
I have a broken heart and I do not know what is going to come of the situation. Please pray God will either heal the situation or deliver me from it.

We hear the deep pain in your words, and our hearts ache with you in this time of brokenness. The Lord is near to those who are brokenhearted and saves those who have a crushed spirit (Psalm 34:18). You are not alone in this struggle, He sees your tears, collects them in His bottle, and records them in His book (Psalm 56:8). We come before Him now, lifting you up in prayer, asking for His healing touch or His deliverance, whichever aligns with His perfect will.

Father God, we come before You with heavy hearts, interceding for our dear brother/sister who is carrying this burden of a broken heart. Lord, You are the Great Physician, the One who binds up the wounds of the broken and restores what has been shattered. We ask that You would either heal this situation according to Your will or deliver them from it, granting them peace and clarity in the process. Your Word says in Jeremiah 30:17, "For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds." We claim this promise over them today.

Lord, if there is any sin or unforgiveness in this situation, we ask that You would reveal it to them. Help them to release any bitterness, anger, or resentment, for Your Word warns us in Hebrews 12:15 that a root of bitterness can defile many. Give them the strength to forgive, even as You have forgiven them (Colossians 3:13). If this brokenness is tied to a relationship that does not honor You, we pray that You would expose any ungodly patterns and lead them into Your truth. Help them to walk in purity and righteousness, seeking Your will above all else.

We also rebuke any spirit of despair or hopelessness that may be trying to take hold. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We declare that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we stand in agreement with you for God’s best in this situation. If this pain is leading you away from God rather than drawing you closer to Him, we encourage you to press into His presence. Draw near to Him, and He will draw near to you (James 4:8). Spend time in His Word, for it is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105).

Lord, we ask that You would surround our brother/sister with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Give them the strength to wait on You, for those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31). Help them to trust in Your timing, knowing that You work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28).

If this situation involves a relationship that is not aligned with Your Word, whether it be an ungodly union, sexual immorality, or a partnership that does not honor You, we pray that You would give them the courage to walk away. Your Word is clear that we are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14) and that marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). If this brokenness is a result of sin, we pray for repentance and restoration in Your way, not the world’s.

Above all, we pray that you would fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). He is the One who was despised and rejected, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief (Isaiah 53:3). He understands your pain and is able to comfort you in it. If you have not yet placed your trust in Him as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. The Bible tells us that "if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6), and it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.

We can hear how heavy this is, that suspended place where you don't yet know whether God will mend what's broken or lead you out of it entirely. That kind of waiting can be its own ache, and it's okay to feel exactly what you're feeling right now.

Sometimes the most honest prayer isn't tidy or resolved. It's simply opening your hands and letting God see the full weight of the brokenness, without needing to know the ending yet. We've found that when we stop trying to figure out which outcome He is working toward, we can rest more fully in the One who is working, and who is with you in every moment of the not-knowing.

One thing that helps when the pain feels isolating is letting in a safe person, a trusted friend, a small group, a pastor, who can simply sit with you in it. You don't need to have clarity or a plan. You just need someone to bear witness and lift you up when your own faith feels thin. Grief that is carried alone often grows heavier than it was meant to be.

Jesus, you see this broken heart fully. You know every wounded place and every unanswered question. We ask you to draw near right now, wrap this person in your steady presence when the ground feels shaky. Give wisdom where a decision is needed, patience where waiting is the only path, and the quiet courage to stay open to you whether you heal this situation or lead a way through. Bring one trustworthy companion alongside for the journey. In your name we pray, Amen.

There is a brokenness that is the very door through which the Comforter enters. When the heart is shattered by sorrow, whether it be from sin, from loss, or from the gnawing ache of an uncertain tomorrow, remember that the Lord draws near to such. He has given His own Son a commission to bind up the broken in heart, and that Man of Sorrows knows the weight of a fractured spirit better than any. I know what despair means, and I would not speak lightly of your pain, but I point you to One whose own heart was broken that yours might find healing.

You ask that God would either heal the situation or deliver you from it. This is a cry that rises both from faith and from the desperation that faith often wears when it is tested. Do not think it a small thing that you still look to Him. The Lord has not given many a heart to perceive or ears to hear, but you have called upon Him. That very inclination is the tender shoot of His own planting. A broken column stands as a memorial over many who once made a fair show of following Christ, yet their resolve snapped with a "but." But you have not abandoned the cry, and that is no small evidence of grace.

The heart God means to heal is often first broken in pieces by a sense of its own helplessness. He makes the deliverance so complete that we dare not take an atom of the honor to ourselves. If He removes the thorn, He shall have the praise. If He leaves it and gives greater grace to bear it, He shall still be glorified. The bones which He has broken may not merely grow calm or indifferent; they are destined to rejoice. That rejoicing may seem a far-off land to you now, but the path there is paved with His faithfulness. David’s heart smote him, and arrow after arrow of conviction pierced him, yet he found that God had not forsaken him.

There is not a word that falls from Christ’s lips but bears healing in it. Even a broken text from His mouth is better than the best of others. The very leaves of that Tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Him carries virtue. You do not need some grand, unattainable righteousness to present to Him; you need only bring your poor, splintered heart to the heart that was pierced by the spear. The Lord has a way of entering, not with a crowbar, but with a master key that gently unlocks the door. He can make the iron sinew of your neck pliable, and He can lift you from the pit when the time appointed by His eternal love has struck.

Wait for Him in the night. The deliverance that came for Israel followed the slaying of the lamb, and your deliverance, be it by healing or by exodus, is secured by the same blood. He will not leave you in Pharaoh’s grip. You may say you do not know what is to come, but He does, and He has found a ransom. Rest your weight upon that. Do not let the gangrene of despair find a dark cavern in your emptied heart; instead, let the emptiness be the space into which His consolation flows. The spark divine within you shall not be quenched, for it is kindled by His own infinite breast.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The broken heart you speak of is not a thing to despise, for God Himself draws near to such a spirit. Remember the words of the prophet: a broken and a contrite heart God will not despise. That which is shattered does not strike back, does not rise up in pride, but lies low, ready to be ill-treated and yet quiet. This is the very posture that opens the door to divine comfort. When the soul is broken, it no longer fights against the hand that wounds; instead, it turns its cry inward, where God alone hears. Do not think you need a clamor of words. Even Moses, when he stood before the Red Sea and uttered nothing with his lips, cried out in his heart, and God heard him. So you, in the marketplace of your troubles, can collect yourself and sing to God in silence, and He will incline His ear.

Do not be troubled about what will come of the situation. The gospel is not shaken by the showers of evils that befall us. Christ told us that tumults and confusion would come, but none of His promises are set aside. If He permits this trial, it is not because He has forgotten you. Consider Job, who in the midst of loss and sores questioned what God was doing. Yet when the Lord spoke, even out of the whirlwind, Job saw himself clearly: “I have made myself vile, and I am earth and ashes.” His brokenness became the soil of his restoration. Do you see? He was not delivered from the furnace immediately, but he was given to know that God was with him in it, and that was enough.

Now, you ask for prayer that God will either heal the situation or deliver you from it. This is a good and humble request, for it leaves the choice to Him who knows what is best. But consider this: perhaps the healing and the deliverance are not separate paths. The very illness of heart you suffer can itself become the medicine, if you take upon you the yoke of Christ. He says, “Learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest for your souls.” He does not promise a lifting of every external burden, but inner rest in the bearing of it. His yoke is easy, and His burden is light, not because it weighs nothing, but because His grace transforms the weight into wings.

Therefore, do not let your grief harden into despair or bitterness. A broken thing, if it remains soft in God’s hands, is easily reshaped. Offer Him the sacrifice of a broken spirit; that is the true hymn of those who dwell above. When you pray, do not seek to instruct the Physician. Spread your wound before Him and say, “As Thou wilt, Lord; only make me Thine.” He will either remove the thorn or give strength to bear it, and in either case, He will remain near. The three children in the furnace did not demand deliverance from the flames; they simply refused to worship the image, and the Son of God met them in the fire. So it is with you. Stand fast in innocence and humility, reproaching no one, and the Lord of all consolation will visit your soul.
