Your concern for this man comes through clearly: you love him deeply, yet you're unsettled because something doesn't line up. That inner hesitation isn't something to ignore. Scripture warns us repeatedly to be on guard against teaching that looks and sounds mostly right but carries a dangerous twist. Falsehood rarely announces itself with a sign; it dresses in familiar language, uses enough truth to feel credible, and then quietly reshapes what we believe about who Jesus is, about sin, and about what He requires. The most deceptive errors are built on a foundation of things that are true, which is why the heart can be drawn in without realizing the damage until later.

Because he has a genuine desire for Christ, I'll pray that this very desire becomes the path to clarity. The real test of any teaching is what it does with Jesus: does it affirm His full deity, His bodily death for sin, and His resurrection as the only ground of our hope? If a system shifts the focus onto something else, a special experience, a prosperity promise, a diminished view of sin, then the fruit eventually shows up. Worldliness isn't just about outward actions; it grows from roots planted by what we've been taught about what God is like and what He approves. I'm asking the Lord to expose any wrong that needs to be brought into the light, not for shame's sake but for the freedom that only comes when we walk in truth.

As for trust, I understand how hard it is when you sense a disconnect between someone’s words and the life that flows from them. You don't need to manufacture trust that hasn't been earned. At the same time, remember that every believer is in a process. The struggle with sin is real for all of us, Paul describes that war inside himself, but the grace of God is deeper still. The one damning sin is finally refusing the love of God in Christ. So I'm also praying for you, that you would have wisdom to discern without despair, and that fear wouldn't drive your decisions. True safety isn't in controlling the outcome but in yielding to the Lord who sees what we cannot. Keep bringing this to Him, and trust that He is able to break through confusion and draw a sincere heart fully into the light.
