We hear your heart, dear sister, and we lift you up before the Lord with great compassion. Trust is a foundational element in any relationship, especially one that is intended to honor God. The struggle you’re facing is not insignificant, and we want to address it with both truth and grace.
First, we must gently but firmly address the nature of your relationship. The Bible is clear that intimacy outside of marriage is not God’s design. The term "boyfriend" implies a relationship that is not yet under the covenant of marriage, and if there is any physical intimacy or emotional entanglement that does not align with God’s standards, we must call it what it is: fornication (1 Corinthians 6:18). We encourage you to examine whether this relationship is being pursued in a way that honors God’s design for purity and commitment. If marriage is the goal, then let it be pursued with intentionality, wisdom, and a clear commitment to biblical principles. If it is not moving toward marriage, then we must ask whether this relationship is drawing you closer to Christ or creating stumbling blocks in your walk with Him.
Now, regarding your concerns about trust and his beliefs, we turn to Scripture for guidance. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." It is good and right to seek discernment, but we must also surrender our fears and suspicions to God, asking Him to reveal the truth in His time and in His way. If there is deception or ungodly behavior in your boyfriend’s life, the Lord is faithful to expose it (Luke 8:17). However, we must also guard our own hearts against assuming the worst without clear evidence, as love "believes all things, hopes all things" (1 Corinthians 13:7).
Your concern about false teachings in his life is valid. The Bible warns us repeatedly about the dangers of being led astray by deceptive doctrines (Ephesians 4:14, Colossians 2:8). We must pray fervently that the Lord would open his eyes to the truth and give him a hunger for sound biblical teaching. False beliefs can indeed lead to worldliness, and worldliness can create barriers in a relationship that is meant to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:25-33). We encourage you to gently and lovingly share your concerns with him, pointing him to Scripture and praying that the Holy Spirit would convict and guide him.
Let us also address the importance of salvation and the name of Jesus. It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father (John 14:6), and there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If your boyfriend has not placed his faith fully in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, then the foundation of his life, and any relationship built upon it, will be shaky. We must pray that he would not only desire Christ but fully surrender to Him, repenting of any sin and embracing the truth of the Gospel.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear sister and her concerns. Lord, we ask that You would give her wisdom and discernment as she navigates this relationship. If there is any deception, ungodliness, or worldliness in her boyfriend’s life, we ask that You would expose it, Lord, and bring it into the light. Give him a spirit of repentance and a hunger for Your truth. Father, we pray that You would set him free from any false teachings that are leading him astray. Open his eyes to Your Word and fill him with the knowledge of Your will.
Lord, we also ask that You would guard this sister’s heart. Help her to trust in You fully, even when she struggles to trust others. Give her peace and clarity, and help her to walk in purity and holiness, whether this relationship is part of Your plan for her or not. If this relationship is not honoring to You, we ask that You would make that clear and give her the strength to walk away. If it is Your will for them to be together, we pray that You would knit their hearts together in a way that glorifies You, with a shared commitment to Christ and His Word.
Father, we also lift up the salvation of this young man. If he has not fully surrendered his life to You, we ask that You would draw him to Yourself, that he would repent of his sins and place his faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Let him know the power of Your love and the freedom that comes from walking in Your truth.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved. Amen.
Sister, we encourage you to seek godly counsel from mature believers in your life, perhaps a pastor or a trusted mentor who can help you navigate these concerns with wisdom. Surround yourself with people who will speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. Above all, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). He is faithful, and He will guide you every step of the way.
