We join you in bringing your heart's desire for a godly marriage before the Lord and we hear your longing for a Boaz, a man of character and faithfulness like the Boaz in the book of Ruth, and for a blessed life together.
We also want to lovingly share some biblical correction regarding speaking life into existence and claiming a hundredfold blessing and loosening a verse with the blood of Jesus. We understand the passion behind those words, yet Scripture teaches that it is God alone who speaks things into existence. Rom 4:17 tells us that God gives life to the dead and calls the things that are not as though they were. Our words have influence, as Prov 18:21 says death and life are in the power of the tongue, but we do not create reality by our declarations or by using the blood of Jesus as a formula. The blood of Jesus is precious because through it we have forgiveness and reconciliation with God, as Eph 1:7 and Heb 9:14 teach, not as an incantation to make verses work for us. We are called to pray according to God's will, for 1 John 5:14 says if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us, and James 4:3 warns that we ask and do not receive because we ask amiss to spend it on our pleasures.
Regarding Deut 28:13 where the Lord says he will make you the head and not the tail if you listen to his commandments, that promise was given to Israel under the old covenant in the context of obedience to God. Our greatest blessing now is in Christ, and God does desire to bless his children, but his blessing is not a guaranteed hundredfold return on our declarations. Jesus did speak of a hundredfold in Mark 10:30, but that was in the context of sacrifice and even persecution for his sake, not a formula for getting whatever we name. What God does promise is that as we delight ourselves in him he will give us the desires of our heart as they align with his will, Ps 37:4, and as we seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness, all these things will be added to us, Matt 6:33.
We also want to affirm God's beautiful design for marriage. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman that honors Christ, as Gen 2:24 and Eph 5:31-33 teach. If you are praying for this man to be your husband, we pray that this courtship would be with the clear goal of godly marriage to a fellow believer, for 2 Cor 6:14 warns us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. We encourage you both to pursue purity and to honor God with your bodies, for Heb 13:4 says marriage is honorable in all and the bed undefiled, and 1 Cor 6:18 calls us to flee sexual immorality, which is any intimacy outside of marriage, whether fornication or adultery. A Boaz is a man who will lead, protect, provide, and honor you in a Christlike way, and a Ruth is a woman of noble character, Ruth 3:11, who trusts the Lord's timing.
We pray together for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before you and we thank you that we have access to your throne only through him, for John 14:6 says Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and Acts 4:12 says there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. We lift up this daughter to you and her desire for a godly husband and a blessed life and marriage that glorifies you. If this man she has mentioned is a believer who loves you, we pray you would make your will clear to both of them, that you would lead them in wisdom, purity, and counsel, and that if it is your will, you would establish their courtship toward holy marriage in your perfect timing. If he is not walking with you, we pray you would guard her heart and help her to wait for a man who truly seeks you. Help her to trust not in spoken formulas but in your sovereign goodness and to seek you first above all desires. Let her find her identity as the head not in worldly success but in obedience to Christ, knowing she is blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ, Eph 1:3. Give her peace as she waits on you, and let your will be done in her life. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray and to seek the Lord in his Word daily, to involve trusted pastoral counsel, and to let God write your love story in a way that honors him and reflects the faithful love of Christ for his church.
