To Souls in Agony
In deep distress, calling on God brings deliverance and peace to the troubled soul.
We join you in giving thanks for the great confidence we have to enter the holiest place by the blood of Jesus, behind the veil, into the very fellowship of the Father and the Son. This is not by our own merit but by His sacrifice, His rising and ascending, and the pouring out of the promised Holy Spirit as our inheritance.

You have prayed well in remembering that our hearts are sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. The sprinkling spoken of in Hebrews is not only of faith but calls for a virtuous life and a conscience that knows no evil. The holy of holies is holy, and it receives those who are made holy. As you noted, the washing no longer cleanses only the body but cleanses the soul, so that we may draw near with full assurance, receiving mercy and finding grace to help in time of need, like branches naturally receiving life from the vine and bearing fruit without strain.

We also thank God with you for the goal of our teaching, which is love from a purified heart, a sincere faith without contradiction, and a good conscience without charge. Continue to study the Word carefully from beginning to end so that you may handle it accurately and not misrepresent our perfect God. May the Holy Spirit strengthen you to know the breadth and depth of Christ's love, to understand God's will perfectly and to walk in a manner worthy of Him, with wisdom and power to make and accomplish what is needed and to bear fruit that remains.

We pray that the Lord will direct your heart into the love of God. Many things would draw us away, the love of money, vainglory, affliction and temptation, so we need His help as a strong wind to carry our sails steadily toward love for Him, shown not only in words but in works. May His grace and peace, which ended the great war between us and God and made us sons through the Father and the Son, remain firm and unmoved in you.

We ask with you for nearness to God as you draw near to Him, for renewal of first love, for grace to tend the garden and vineyard He has entrusted to you, for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to know Him better and to understand the Scriptures, for clarity and order, for simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ, for fellowship with the Trinity and with His people, and for faith and assurance that leads to joyful repentance and the turning of sinners to Him.

We also join you in asking for protection from temptation and evil, from stumbling blocks, from wrongdoing, fear and lies, and from the evil one. God is faithful and will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape so that you may endure. May He guard you, minister to you, and keep you walking in repentance and forgiveness through Jesus Christ, the one Mediator between God and man, our High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

We praise God for your hunger for His Word and His presence, and we pray that He will continue to cleanse your conscience, establish you in love, and keep you steadfast in hope until the end, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Your prayer reflects a beautiful hunger to live close to God, and it is right to come with confidence through the blood of Jesus. Scripture says we have boldness to enter the holiest by that blood, behind the veil, because Jesus is our sympathetic High Priest forever. We do not enter on the basis of our own works, but because He died and rose and poured out the promise of the Holy Spirit. By that sprinkling our consciences are cleansed from dead works so that we can serve the living God, and we can come freely to receive mercy and find grace for help in time of need, like branches naturally receiving life from the vine.

What you are asking for is wisdom, and that is the principal thing to seek. Knowledge alone is not enough. A person can have much knowledge and still not know how to use it. Wisdom is better than rubies, and nothing you could desire compares to it. In her right hand is length of days, and in her left hand are riches and honor. The Lord is our confidence and keeps our feet from being taken, and true wisdom teaches us to do good to others when it is in our power to do so.

God invites you to ask Him for that wisdom. He gives generously to those who lack it, but He asks for a wholehearted commitment, not holding back part of your life while asking for His direction. Every good and perfect gift comes from above, from the Father, and wisdom is one of His best gifts.

The wisdom that comes from above has a clear character. It does not lead to envy and strife and wars, as earthly wisdom does. It leads to purity and holiness rather than living for sensual desires, and it leads to peace. It is gentle and willing to listen, open to correction, full of mercy and good fruits. It helps you sow in peace so that you may reap righteousness. To walk in that wisdom is to reverence the Lord, for the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. When wisdom is like a sister to you and understanding like close family, they keep you from crooked paths and from those who delight in evil.

That wisdom is ultimately found in Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. As you listen to wisdom you are listening to the Lord. By wisdom He framed the earth and founded the heavens, and by that same wisdom He will guide your daily life, your work in tending what He has entrusted to you, your care for your home, your fellowship with others, and your study of His Word from cover to cover so that you handle it accurately.

It is good that you are praying with thanksgiving and moving toward confidence and praise. Prayer often begins with petitions and then grows into confidence as we remember how great God is, and finally ends in praise even before we see the answer. As you cast your burdens on Him and dwell on His power and love, He will give you assurance that He will take care of what concerns you.

I join you in praying that the Holy Spirit will give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation to know God better, to understand His Word, to walk in a manner worthy of Him, and to know His will fully. May He give you clarity and order, simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ, strength to know the breadth and depth of Christ's love, and wisdom and power to make and carry out what is needed. May He keep you from stumbling blocks, from wrongdoing, from lies and fear, from deception and from the evil one, and may you continue to walk in nearness to God, in first love for Him, and in fellowship with Him and with His people, proclaiming repentance and forgiveness through Jesus, our one Mediator and Priest forever.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for confidence through the Blood of Jesus to enter the Holy Place behind the veil into the very center of fellowship between the Father and the Son according to Heb 10:19.

We have continued to lift up your thanksgiving and requests before the Lord, that by the sprinkling of the blood our consciences would be cleansed from works that lead to death to serve the Living God according to Heb 9:14, and that we would live in the reality of His death and resurrection and the pouring out of the inheritance through the promised Holy Spirit according to Heb 9:15 and Acts 2:33. We have prayed with you for boldness to enter the Holiest by the Blood of Jesus our sympathetic High Priest forever to receive mercy and find grace for help in time of need according to Heb 4:15 and Heb 4:16, abiding in the Vine according to John 15:1, with love from a purified heart and a good conscience according to 1 Tim 1:5, rightly handling the Word of truth according to 2 Tim 2:15, strengthened to know the dimensions of Christ's love according to Eph 3:16 and Eph 3:18, with wisdom to know and walk out His will according to Col 1:9.

We have also agreed with you for nearness to God according to James 4:8 and renewal of first love according to Rev 2:4, for grace to care for your vineyard according to Song 1:6 and to tend the garden entrusted to you according to Gen 2:15, for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to know Him better according to Eph 1:17 and to understand the Word according to Luke 24:45, for clarity and order according to 1 Cor 14:33, for fellowship with the Trinity and with His people according to 1 John 1:3, for simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ according to 2 Cor 11:3, for angelic ministry and protection according to Psalm 91:11 and Heb 1:14, for bold proclamation of repentance and forgiveness according to Luke 24:47, for restoration of joy according to Psalm 51:12, and for protection from temptation and evil and from every stumbling block according to Matt 6:13 and Rom 14:13 and John 17:15.

If your request was answered and you have experienced this deeper confidence and nearness, strengthened study, fruitful abiding, and gracious protection, please post a praise report and let us all know so we may rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered yet, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ.

We pray together that the Father would continue to draw you behind the veil by the Blood of Jesus, keep your conscience clean, fill you with the Holy Spirit, and cause you to bear much fruit for His glory, and we ask for His ongoing covering over you from all evil and deception. We ask all of this in Jesus Name Amen.
