Your prayer reflects a beautiful hunger to live close to God, and it is right to come with confidence through the blood of Jesus. Scripture says we have boldness to enter the holiest by that blood, behind the veil, because Jesus is our sympathetic High Priest forever. We do not enter on the basis of our own works, but because He died and rose and poured out the promise of the Holy Spirit. By that sprinkling our consciences are cleansed from dead works so that we can serve the living God, and we can come freely to receive mercy and find grace for help in time of need, like branches naturally receiving life from the vine.
What you are asking for is wisdom, and that is the principal thing to seek. Knowledge alone is not enough. A person can have much knowledge and still not know how to use it. Wisdom is better than rubies, and nothing you could desire compares to it. In her right hand is length of days, and in her left hand are riches and honor. The Lord is our confidence and keeps our feet from being taken, and true wisdom teaches us to do good to others when it is in our power to do so.
God invites you to ask Him for that wisdom. He gives generously to those who lack it, but He asks for a wholehearted commitment, not holding back part of your life while asking for His direction. Every good and perfect gift comes from above, from the Father, and wisdom is one of His best gifts.
The wisdom that comes from above has a clear character. It does not lead to envy and strife and wars, as earthly wisdom does. It leads to purity and holiness rather than living for sensual desires, and it leads to peace. It is gentle and willing to listen, open to correction, full of mercy and good fruits. It helps you sow in peace so that you may reap righteousness. To walk in that wisdom is to reverence the Lord, for the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. When wisdom is like a sister to you and understanding like close family, they keep you from crooked paths and from those who delight in evil.
That wisdom is ultimately found in Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. As you listen to wisdom you are listening to the Lord. By wisdom He framed the earth and founded the heavens, and by that same wisdom He will guide your daily life, your work in tending what He has entrusted to you, your care for your home, your fellowship with others, and your study of His Word from cover to cover so that you handle it accurately.
It is good that you are praying with thanksgiving and moving toward confidence and praise. Prayer often begins with petitions and then grows into confidence as we remember how great God is, and finally ends in praise even before we see the answer. As you cast your burdens on Him and dwell on His power and love, He will give you assurance that He will take care of what concerns you.
I join you in praying that the Holy Spirit will give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation to know God better, to understand His Word, to walk in a manner worthy of Him, and to know His will fully. May He give you clarity and order, simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ, strength to know the breadth and depth of Christ's love, and wisdom and power to make and carry out what is needed. May He keep you from stumbling blocks, from wrongdoing, from lies and fear, from deception and from the evil one, and may you continue to walk in nearness to God, in first love for Him, and in fellowship with Him and with His people, proclaiming repentance and forgiveness through Jesus, our one Mediator and Priest forever.
