Your prayer has been heard, and the heaviness you describe is understood, the burden of debt, the shame felt before your family, the fear of calls and visits, and the anxiety that this trouble might cost you your work and your peace at home.
First, you began rightly by coming in the name of Jesus and asking for forgiveness of sins. That is the greatest debt we all owe. As Scripture teaches, we owed God ten thousand talents, a debt we could never repay, yet He forgives freely through Christ who gave Himself for us. Salvation is through Him alone. If you have turned to Him in faith, that great debt is forgiven, not because we earned it but because He bore it. Hold fast to that mercy, and let it shape how you walk through this earthly trial.
Concerning your earthly debts, God calls His people to honesty and faithfulness. The desire you expressed to repay everyone is good and right, and you should cling to it. It would not be right to ask God to make what you truly owe simply disappear, or to close accounts so that no just payment is required. The Lord who forgave us so much calls us not to take our fellow servants by the throat, and also not to withhold what is justly due. If you have borrowed, and interest and terms were agreed to, the faithful path is to repay what you owe as you are able, with truthfulness and diligence, even when it is hard. If you believe you have been charged unjustly or have already repaid more than was fair, seek wise and lawful help to review the accounts, and speak honestly with those you owe, rather than hoping for a miracle that would set aside justice.
The Scriptures also teach us how to suffer. Job lost much, yet he was blessed not when his goods were many, but when he said, The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. The enemy wants loss to drive us to speak against God, but God can use even affliction to enlarge our trust and to bring greater good in the end. Bear this stroke thankfully, not with blasphemy or despair, but with prayer, patience, and steady work. A household established by mercy, honesty, and diligence is kept more securely than by any other defense. Use what you have, your strength, your work, your care for your neighbor and family, as talents given by God for the common good.
For the harassment and fear you face, it is right to pray for peace and for protection for your family and friends, and for wisdom to act lawfully. You may and should take proper steps, keep records of calls and threats, seek counsel from a trusted pastor and from a reputable financial counselor or legal aid, inform your employer only as needed and with discretion, and ask creditors in writing to communicate in lawful and respectful ways. Pray that God would restrain what is threatening and unlawful, and that He would give your creditors fairness and your own heart calmness.
I will pray with you now.
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive our sins and have mercy on us. You know this brother, his debt, his shame, his fear for his family and his work. Grant him peace that guards his heart, wisdom to act honestly and wisely, and strength to work diligently. Provide for his needs according to Your goodness, open a just and honest way to repay what is truly owed, and bring a fair resolution with those to whom he is indebted. Restrain harassment and threats, protect his home and his job, and let his family dwell in quietness. Keep him from hasty decisions that would add burden, and lead him to godly counsel and lawful help. Above all, keep him trusting in Christ, who alone saves, and make him faithful in little as You have been faithful in much. Amen.
Continue in prayer, in honest labor, and in seeking counsel. Do not hide, but walk in the light, repay as God enables you, and trust Him for daily provision and for the peace that comes from a clear conscience before Him.
