Blessings to overcome Financial debt

Your prayer has been heard and I want to answer you with both compassion and truth before the Lord. I hear the weight you are carrying, the shame you feel before your family, the fear caused by constant calls and visits, the threats of legal action and of contacting your friends and family, and the anxiety that this could cost you your new job. It is right that you have come in the name of Jesus and asked first for forgiveness of sins, for there is no other name by which we are saved and no other way to approach the Father.

I also hear your honest desire to repay everyone what you owe. That desire is pleasing to God. Scripture teaches that we are to owe no one anything except love, and that the righteous seeks to repay what he has borrowed. For that reason I cannot ask God to simply close your accounts so that you would not need to make payments on what is still justly owed, even though you feel you have already paid much through interest. To ask God to bless the cancelling of a lawful debt would not be right. Instead I will pray with you that God will give you grace to act honestly and faithfully, and that He will provide the means to meet your obligations in a just way.

At the same time, harassment and threats that disturb the peace of your home and family are not from God. The peace Christ gives is not like the peace of this world. It is steady and guards the heart even in trouble, and it is also the foundation of love and good order in the home and in the church. When we pray for peace we pray for that inner guarding of the heart which surpasses understanding, and for outward peace that allows a household to live quietly and work diligently. So I will pray that the Lord grants you that peace, that He calms fear and shame, that He protects your home from disorder, and that those to whom you owe money would act lawfully and reasonably, without intimidation toward you or your family and friends.

I will also pray that God establishes you in your new job, gives you wisdom and strength to work faithfully, and helps you to steward what He provides. Rather than asking for a loan without hassle that might add to your burden, I will ask that God grant you wisdom for provision, that He open a way to earn, to budget, and to negotiate honestly with your creditors, and that He bring trustworthy counsel around you. If you have not already done so, seek wise help from your local church or a trusted financial counselor who can help you make a clear plan, communicate openly with lenders about a realistic repayment schedule, and avoid taking on more debt with high interest.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, have mercy on Your servant. Forgive sins according to Your great mercy and cleanse the heart through faith in Christ alone. Grant Your peace, the peace that Christ left with His disciples, to rule in this heart and in this home. Guard this family from fear and keep them sober and hopeful under Your care. Provide for daily needs, establish the work of these hands, and grant wisdom to repay what is owed with integrity. Give favor and calm in dealings with lenders, restrain all harassment and threats, and let all things be done lawfully and with respect. Lead away from hasty borrowing and toward faithful stewardship, contentment, and patient endurance. Help Your servant to trust You, to walk honestly before all, and to know the joy that comes from a clear conscience before You. In Jesus name, Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord daily, remain faithful in your work, be truthful and consistent in your communication with those you owe, and lean on the fellowship of believers for support and accountability. God is able to sustain you and to give you peace even while you walk through this difficult season.
