Your honesty in sharing this heavy burden is received with care and prayer. The weight of debt, the constant calls and visits, the shame felt by your family, and the fear of losing your new job would trouble any heart, and it is understandable that you long for peace and resolution.
Scripture makes a distinction that is important for you right now. There is peace with God, and there is the peace of God. Peace with God comes only through Jesus Christ, through His blood shed on the cross to forgive sins. When we were at enmity with God, He offered a peace treaty, not because we deserved it, but by grace. When you come to Him in the name of Jesus confessing sin and trusting in that sacrifice, the war is over. You are no longer running from God or fighting against Him, and that reconciliation brings deep rest to the soul. From that place, you can then know the peace of God in daily life, the peace that the world cannot understand and cannot give.
That second peace is described as a perfect peace that guards the heart and mind. It is promised to the one whose mind is stayed on the Lord because he trusts in Him. It does not come from circumstances becoming calm, but from turning your thoughts toward Christ and trusting that He will take care of you. Jesus said to His disciples, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The world gives peace only when problems are gone. His peace can keep you steady even while problems remain. The apostle Paul writes that when we bring our anxieties to God in prayer with thanksgiving, the peace of God which passes all understanding will keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
God wants you to live in that peace, and His thoughts toward you are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you hope. He has not forgotten you in this captivity of debt and fear. He invites you to call upon Him and to pray to Him, and He will listen.
In that light, we want to pray with you according to what is right and true, and also to encourage you in a biblical path forward. Your desire to repay everyone is right and honors God. Scripture teaches that integrity in financial matters matters to God, and that we are to owe no one anything except to love, and to repay what we have promised. Even when interest feels heavy and you feel you have already paid much, if you agreed to borrow and repay under certain terms, God calls you to seek to fulfill your obligations honestly rather than to ask Him to simply cancel debts so that no payment is needed. It is good to ask God for provision, wisdom, and help, but not to ask Him to bless an escape from responsibility. He is a God of grace and mercy and peace, and He will help you walk in truth.
We also understand your distress over harassment and threats toward you and your family and friends, and the fear that this could cost you your job and disrupt the peace of your home. We can pray that God will bring lawful and peaceful resolution, that those to whom you owe money would act fairly and within what is right, and that God would protect your employment and your household while you seek to make things right. At the same time, wise and practical steps are part of trusting God. Keeping open, honest communication where possible, seeking godly counsel for budgeting and debt management, keeping careful records, making faithful payments as you are able, and learning your legal protections can be ways God provides help. A personal loan may or may not be His provision, and we should not presume that He will grant a loan without any difficulty, but we can ask Him to open the right doors according to His will and to give you diligence and wisdom in your work.
May you first be rooted in peace with God through faith in Jesus, and then experience His peace day by day as you keep your mind on Him.
We pray with you. Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus we come asking for forgiveness of sins through His blood and for Your grace and mercy. Grant to this dear one peace with You and then Your perfect peace that guards heart and mind, as his mind is stayed on You in trust. Lift the weight of shame and fear, and replace inner turmoil with Your calm. Provide for his needs according to Your wisdom, give him strength and favor in his new job, protect his home and family from disruption, and grant wisdom to deal honestly and faithfully with every debt. Help him to repay what is owed with integrity, to act wisely with creditors, and to find counsel and provision that honors You. Let him know You have not forgotten him, and that as he calls upon You, You hear. We ask for Your peace to reign in his heart and home, and for Your will to be done in his finances. In Jesus name, Amen.
