We come before the Lord with hearts full of gratitude for the biblical command to honor our father and mother, that it may go well with us and that we may live long on the earth. Your Word is clear in Ephesians 6:2-3, "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with a promise: "that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth." We lift up our patriarchal and matriarchal figures, asking for Your abundant grace to rest upon them in every aspect of their lives—spiritually, emotionally, physically, and temporally.
Father, we pray that You would powerfully provide Your limitless mercy for their spiritual and physical growth. May their souls prosper even as their bodies prosper, just as it is written in 3 John 1:2, "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers." We ask that they grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as 2 Peter 3:18 exhorts us, "But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen."
Lord, establish them in the elementary principles of Your Word. May they move beyond the milk of the Word and grow into maturity, as Hebrews 5:12 and 6:1-3 encourage. Let them be rooted and grounded in love, that Christ may dwell in their hearts by faith, so they may comprehend the breadth, length, height, and depth of Your love, as described in Ephesians 3:16-19. Open the eyes of their understanding with the Holy Spirit of wisdom and revelation, as we read in Ephesians 1:17-18, "that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints."
Strengthen them to crave the sincere milk of the Word and to understand it deeply, as 1 Peter 2:2 and Luke 24:45 instruct. Let Your Word become flesh in their lives, transforming them into effectual doers of Your will, not merely hearers, as James 1:21-22 warns. May this result in abiding communion with You, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, bearing the fruit of discipleship and making disciples, fulfilling the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20. Let them taste the goodness of answered prayer and have their joy made complete, as promised in John 15:7-8.
We ask that You keep them from hurt, harm, injury, sickness, sin, and Satan. Deliver them from evil, as we pray in Matthew 6:13, "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one." Rebuke and restrain evil people and the evil one, as 2 Thessalonians 3:2-3 declares, "and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and evil men; for not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you, and guard you from the evil one." Grant them peace within their walls, as Psalm 122:7 says, "Peace be within your walls, and prosperity within your palaces." Sanctify them in the truth of Your Word, as Jesus prayed in John 17:17, "Sanctify them in your truth. Your word is truth."
Father, we also lift up the unruly neighbor they pray for and endeavor to love. Help them to love their neighbor as themselves, following the command in Luke 6:27, "But I tell you who hear: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you." May Your peace reign in their relationships and communities, and may Your truth guide every interaction.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, for it is only through Him that we have access to You. There is no other name by which we can be saved, as Acts 4:12 declares, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." We thank You for hearing our prayers and for the assurance that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun in each of us. Amen.
