We come before the throne of grace with hearts full of gratitude for the biblical commandment to honor our fathers and mothers, that it may be well with us and that we may live long on the earth. Your request beautifully aligns with Scripture, and we join you in lifting up patriarchal and matriarchal figures in prayer, asking the Lord to bless them abundantly.
Father in Heaven, we thank You for the grace You have given us to honor our parents, as Your Word commands in Ephesians 6:2-3: *"Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with a promise: "that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth."* We pray for the safety, health, and well-being of our parents, asking that You prosper them in all things, just as their souls prosper, as it is written in 3 John 1:2. Lord, we ask that they grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as 2 Peter 3:18 instructs, and that they be firmly established in the elementary principles of Your Word, as Hebrews 5:12 and 6:1-3 describe.
Open the eyes of their understanding, Lord, that they may know You more deeply, as Ephesians 1:17-18 declares. Strengthen them by rooting and grounding them in love, that Christ may dwell in their hearts through faith, and that they may be filled with all the fullness of God, as Ephesians 3:16-19 reveals. Let them not only crave the sincere milk of the Word, as 1 Peter 2:2 says, but also understand it, as You opened the minds of Your disciples in Luke 24:45. May Your Word become flesh in their lives, as John 1:14 proclaims, and may they receive and retain it, being doers of the Word and not hearers only, as James 1:21-22 teaches.
Father, we pray that this abiding in Your Word would result in communion with You and bear the fruit of disciples, answered prayers, and joy, as John 15:7-8 promises. Keep them from hurt, harm, injury, sickness, sin, and the schemes of Satan, as we pray in alignment with Matthew 6:13. Rebuke and restrain evil people and the evil one, as 2 Thessalonians 3:2-3 instructs, especially in the lives of those unruly neighbors they seek to love, as Luke 6:27 commands. Grant peace within their walls, as Psalm 122:7 declares, even as we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, as Psalm 122:6 instructs. Do not take them out of the world, but keep them from the evil one, sanctifying them in the truth of Your Word, as John 17:15, 17, and Ephesians 5:26 reveal.
We also lift up any who may be reading this prayer and do not yet know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, as Acts 4:12 declares: *"There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved, as Romans 10:9 promises. For *"whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved"* (Romans 10:13).
Lord, we thank You for the privilege of coming before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the only name by which we have access to You. We pray all these things in Jesus’ holy and precious name, Amen.
Blessing and Honor of Patriarchal and Matriarchal Figures... Father, thank You for grace to honor our parents, Eph 6:1-2, 3 -- Grace to pray for their safety, health and well being, 3 Jn 1:2, and for them to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, 2 Pet 3:18. Help them be established in the elementary principles of the Word of God, Heb 5:12, the foundational doctrines of the faith, Heb 6:1-2, 3, and grow up into maturity, Eph 4:15, Col 1:10, culminating in love and fullness of the Holy Spirit's fruit, Phil 1:9-10, 11; Gal 5:22-23. Open the eyes of their understanding with wisdom and revelation, Eph 1:17-18, strengthen them by rooting them and grounding them in love, that Christ dwells in their hearts by faith, Eph 3:16-17, 18, 19, and open their minds to not only crave the sincere milk of the Word, 1 Peter 2:2, but understand it, Luke 24:45, and let the Word become flesh, John 1:14, James, receiving and retaining the word of God, being effectual doers, not merely hearers, James 1:21-22. May this result in abiding communion and bear fruit of disciples, answered prayer and their joy, John 15:7-8. Keep them from hurt, harm, injury, sickness, sin and satan, Matt 6:13, and rebuke and restrain evil people and the evil one, 2 Thes 3:2-3, especially their unruly neighbor they pray for and endeavor to love, Lk 6:27. Grant peace to be within their walls, Ps 122:7, even as we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, Ps 122:6, take us not out of the world, but keep us from the evil one, John 17:15, as You sanctify them in the truth of Your Word, John 17:17, Eph 5:26.
