We join you in lifting up your parents before the Father and we rejoice with you in your love for them and your desire to see them hunger for God and walk as doers of His Word. What a beautiful and thoughtful gift to give them matching giant print Bibles, and what a beautiful prayer that they would read and understand together. God delights in that desire for His Word to dwell richly in their home.
We pray with you for a deep spiritual hunger to be awakened in them. Jesus said in Matthew 5:6, Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. We ask the Father to create that holy hunger and thirst in both of their hearts, that they would long for His Word more than for daily bread.
We agree with you for wisdom, revelation, and renewal of the mind. We pray as it is written in Ephesians 1:17-18, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened. We pray Psalm 119:18 over them, Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things out of your law. We ask God to undo decades of wrong thinking, worries and cares, and to transform them by the renewing of their minds as promised in Romans 12:2, Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. May He lift every worry as they cast all their worries on Him, because He cares for them as in 1 Peter 5:7, and guard their hearts with His peace as in Philippians 4:7.
We also stand with you for them to be doers and not hearers only. As you quoted in James 1:22, But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. We pray that God would help them to understand, to retain, and to joyfully obey what they read, and that their fellowship together in the Word and in edifying fellowship with you would be sweet and strengthening. We pray they will bear much fruit, for the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control in Galatians 5:22-23, and that their lives would show that fruit to each other and to all around them.
We hear your heart cry that neither would miss eternity, and we agree that any blindness would be removed. Scripture tells us in 2 Corinthians 4:4, in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them. So we ask the Lord to shine His light into their hearts and to draw them fully to Himself, for He desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth in 1 Timothy 2:4. We pray for their protection from the evil one, that God who is faithful will guard them from evil in 2 Thessalonians 3:3, and that as they submit to God the enemy will flee as in James 4:7. We trust in the Lord's power to bind and restrain evil as you prayed from Revelation 20:1-2, knowing that all authority belongs to Christ.
And we pray for you, that the Father would fill you with wisdom, love, and kindness as you minister to them. We ask that He would give you gracious speech seasoned with salt in Colossians 4:6, and wisdom from above in James 1:5, so that you may share the Word with patience and gentleness. We remember that it is God who gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him in Luke 11:13, and we pray you would be a faithful vessel through whom His love and truth flow, while the Spirit Himself does the work of illumination and conviction.
Father, we lift these precious parents to You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, through whom we have access to Your throne of grace. We thank You for the gift of Your Word in a form they can read with joy. Kindle in them a shared delight in reading together daily, in talking about what You show them, and in choosing what is edifying and pure. Renew their minds, restore their fellowship, let them enjoy time together in Your presence, and let them be firmly rooted in Christ unto eternal life. We ask that You would open their eyes, soften their hearts, and make them steadfast doers of Your Word, bearing fruit that remains. Fill their home with Your light, Your love, and Your peace, and keep the evil one far from them by Your mighty hand. And anoint their child with wisdom and tender love to walk before them as a faithful witness. We ask all this in the saving and powerful name of Jesus, amen.
