Beloved of All
Your prayer for your parents is beautiful and it shows honor for them, which God Himself commands and blesses. To see you desire their spiritual hunger, their fellowship together, and their salvation is a good and godly love, and I thank God for the care you have shown in giving them those large print Bibles so they can read together.
I join you in praying to our Father in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we are saved, and no other way to eternal life.
I pray that God will give your mother and father a true hunger for His Word and a delight in reading it together. May He open the eyes of their understanding, as you have asked, so that what they read is not only heard but retained and lived. The Scripture warns us not to be hearers only who look in a mirror and forget, but to be doers of the Word, and that is my prayer for them, that their hearing would bear fruit in obedience, in love, and in a renewed life.
For renewal is not a new person being created apart from them, but the same person made new in the spirit of the mind. Pray that God by His Spirit would renew their minds day by day, washing away decades of wrong thinking, worries and cares that choke the Word, and replacing them with truth, peace and sound understanding. When the mind is made sound and keeps the commandments of God, the evil one does not find an empty house to enter and lead captive. So we ask God to guard them, to give them a godly mind and to keep them from confusion and blindness, that the light of the gospel of Christ would shine clearly to them.
I pray also for you, that God would fill you with wisdom and love and kindness, and that your speech would be for their building up. God gave us speech and mind and strength not only for our own salvation but for our neighbor's good, for instruction and encouragement. May your words and your example be gentle and truthful, seasoned with grace, so that when you read with them or watch what is edifying together, it draws them closer to Christ and to one another in holy fellowship. Remember that wisdom like this does not come from our own understanding, which is small and weak, but from the grace of the Holy Spirit who works in willing hearts.
So let us pray: Father, pour out spiritual hunger on these parents. Give them fellowship in Your Word, wisdom and revelation to know You, and fruit that remains. Help them to love reading the Bible together, to understand it, to remember it, and to do it. Renew his mind and her mind, take away anxious cares and old patterns of thought, and teach them to enjoy what is pure and edifying. Remove any blindness and let Your light and love dwell in their home. Keep them from the power of the evil one, and guard them in Christ, in whom alone is salvation. And fill their child with love, patience and wisdom to walk before them in kindness and truth. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our only hope for eternity, Amen.
Continue faithfully in this, reading with them as you are able, praying with them, and living the Word before them. God is able to do what we ask and more, as He works in those who are willing.
