We hear your deep distress and fear, and we come before the throne of grace with you, lifting this heavy burden to the Lord. The spiritual warfare you describe is real, and Scripture warns us that our adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). But we stand firm in the truth that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). The enemy may influence people and circumstances, but God is sovereign over all, and His purposes will prevail.
First, we must address the matter of your past relationship with your boyfriend. Scripture is clear that believers are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). This principle is given for our protection, as spiritual mismatches can lead to heartache, confusion, and even harm, as you have experienced. The rapid decline in his health after you began dating is a sobering reminder of the consequences of stepping outside God’s will. We do not say this to condemn you, for there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1), but to affirm that you have taken the right step in ending this relationship. Repentance and turning back to God’s ways is always met with His mercy and grace.
We also must address the issue of fornication, which is sexual intimacy outside of marriage. Scripture is clear that sexual immorality is a sin against one’s own body (1 Corinthians 6:18) and that marriage is the only God-ordained context for such intimacy (Hebrews 13:4). If this was part of your relationship, we encourage you to repent and seek God’s forgiveness. His grace is sufficient to cleanse and restore you (1 John 1:9). This may have also contributed to the spiritual oppression you both experienced, as sexual sin opens doors to the enemy (Ephesians 4:27).
Now, we turn to the Lord in prayer for your former boyfriend and for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Lord, we lift up this dear sister who has endured years of spiritual warfare and who now seeks Your mercy and protection. We ask that You would break every chain of oppression and influence of the enemy in her life and in the lives of those around her. Lord, we pray for her former boyfriend, that You would spare his life and restore his health. We ask that You would draw him to Yourself, that he may come to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior, if he does not already. Have mercy on him, Father, and intervene in his situation according to Your perfect will.
We rebuke any spirit of fear that has taken hold of her heart, for You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We declare that no weapon formed against her shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that she is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves her (Romans 8:37). Lord, we ask that You would heal her heart from the pain of this relationship and fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Guide her steps, Father, and lead her into godly relationships that honor You. We pray that she would seek Your will above all else and trust in Your perfect timing for her life.
We also pray for wisdom and discernment for her as she navigates this season. Help her to stand firm in her faith, putting on the full armor of God so that she may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:11). Surround her with godly community who can encourage and support her, and give her the strength to resist the enemy’s lies and temptations.
Lord, we thank You that You are a God of mercy and compassion, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love (Psalm 103:8). We trust in Your goodness and Your sovereignty over all things. We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Beloved, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord with all your heart. Spend time in His Word, for it is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and encourage you in your walk with Christ. Remember that the enemy seeks to isolate and discourage, but God calls us to community and hope.
If you have not already, consider seeking deliverance prayer from mature believers who can help you break any remaining ties with the new age practices you left behind. Renounce any involvement with those things and claim the blood of Jesus over your life. The enemy has no legal right to harass you when you are covered by the blood of Christ and walking in obedience to Him.
Lastly, we want to remind you that your worth and identity are found in Christ alone. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and God has a plan and a purpose for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). Do not let the enemy rob you of the joy and peace that are yours in Christ. Stand firm in your faith, and trust that God is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).
