Asking prayers on the behalf of the ###

What a beautiful verse you have brought before the Lord on behalf of the landlord. Luke 9:24 strips everything down to the most essential choice any human being can make. To clutch at a life built on our own terms is to lose it in the end. To hand that life over to Jesus, to count it as already forfeited for His sake, is the only way to find a life that death cannot touch. You are asking for nothing less than the salvation of a soul, and that is always the right place to start.

I think of how often we, like Adam in the garden, reach for what looks like independence before we ever reach for the tree of life. We instinctively try to secure our own survival, protect our own interests, even when God is standing there offering us something far better. That is what happens when someone resists Christ. They are trying to save their own life, its control, its direction, its resources, and they do not realize that path leads only to emptiness. We have all been there. But God, in His mercy, sets before every person death and life, and He does it with a heart that pleads, “Choose life that you might live.”

The life He offers is not just a longer version of what we already know. It is a completely different quality of life, what Scripture calls eternal or age-abiding life. It is a life in the Son, marked by righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. The old existence, governed by the flesh and its demands, always turns in on itself. The new life, born of the Spirit, flows out in surrender and love. Jesus Himself demonstrated this on the cross. No man has greater love than to lay down his life for his friends, and He laid His down for us, even while we were still hostile toward Him. That same grace that brought salvation then has appeared to all people now, and today is still the day of salvation.

Pray that the landlord would stop trusting his own schemes and simply go out and surrender, like a besieged city that finally puts down its weapons and finds mercy. Full surrender feels like losing, but it is actually the moment God can do His deepest work. He does not ask us to clean ourselves up first; salvation is by grace through faith, and even that faith is a gift, so that no one can boast. The Holy Spirit is able to bring a person to the end of their resistance, sometimes through circumstances that look like a crisis, until they are ready to say, “Here is my life. I give it to you.” That is where Jacob became Israel, when he stopped wrestling and simply held on for a blessing.

We can be confident that the Lord hears you. His desire is for this man to pass from death into life, to drink freely of the water of life, and to know the deep joy of being found in Christ. So I join you in asking for His mercy and grace. Ask in Jesus’ name, believing that the same power that spoke light into darkness can awaken a heart and make it new. Keep entrusting the situation to God without picking it up again to scheme about how He might do it. He is faithful, and His word cannot fail.
