We join you wholeheartedly in this prayer for the whole armor of God and we thank you for laying out this biblical pattern so clearly. We agree that it is right and according to Scripture to first submit ourselves to the Lord and put on His armor by faith, just as our Lord Jesus Himself overcame the devil in the wilderness, and that from that place of victory we can then stand for others.
We see the wisdom in what you shared about first placing the oxygen mask on ourselves. Scripture calls us to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might, Eph 6:10, and to take up the whole armor of God that we may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand, Eph 6:13. Our Lord Jesus indeed showed us the pattern when He was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, Matt 4:1-11, Mark 1:12-13, Luke 4:1-13, and He overcame by the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. Then He could say to us with authority, In the world you have trouble, but cheer up, I have overcome the world, John 16:33. We overcome the world, the flesh, and the devil not in our own strength but in His.
We stand with you to pray this armor over ourselves first, girding our waists with truth, putting on the breastplate of righteousness, having our feet fitted with the preparation of the Good News of peace, taking up above all the shield of faith with which we will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one, taking the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God, Eph 6:14-17. We receive this by faith, for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast, Eph 2:8-9, and without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to Him, Heb 11:6, and whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them, Mark 11:24, yet let him ask in faith, without any doubting, James 1:6.
Then with perseverance we pray with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints, Eph 6:18. We agree to pray this covering over our families, over leaders, pastors, evangelists, churches, ministry partners, and all believers, that utterance may be given to us that we may open our mouths boldly to make known the mystery of the Good News, for which we are ambassadors, Eph 6:19-20, and that we would speak boldly as we ought to speak.
We also affirm your heart to pray even for government and even for enemies. This is fully biblical. We are exhorted to make petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings for all men, for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence, 1 Tim 2:1-2. And our Lord commands us, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, Matt 5:44. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places, Eph 6:12, and the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, 2 Cor 10:4. Even those who oppose us need the same armor and the same salvation.
So we pray together now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and we put on Your whole armor by faith. We gird ourselves with Your truth, for Your Word is truth, and we reject every lie of the enemy. We put on Your breastplate of righteousness, for we have no righteousness of our own but we are made the righteousness of God in Christ. We shod our feet with the preparation of the Good News of peace, and we ask You to make us ready to go and to stand in peace. We lift up the shield of faith and we quench every fiery dart of doubt, accusation, fear, and temptation. We take the helmet of salvation and we rest in the assurance that we are Yours, saved and sealed. We take the sword of the Spirit which is Your Word, and we wield it as Jesus did, with confidence and obedience.
We now by faith place this same armor upon our families, upon every leader and pastor and evangelist, upon every church and ministry partner, upon all believers everywhere, upon those in government, and even upon our enemies, that You would open their eyes and draw them to salvation and to truth. We pray for boldness for all Your saints to proclaim the mystery of the Good News without fear. Keep us watchful and persevering in prayer in the Spirit. Let us having done all, still be found standing, strong in the Lord and in the power of Your might. We thank You that You hear us when we pray according to Your will and that You reward those who diligently seek You.
We ask all this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our victory, amen.
