Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing so honestly about the anxiety and the pressure you are feeling at work. Wanting to do well, to be confident, and to have a calm and respectful place to work are good desires, and feeling overwhelmed when those things feel uncertain is understandable.
Scripture makes a distinction that can help you here. There is peace with God, and there is the peace of God. Peace with God comes only through what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross, making peace through His blood and forgiving our sin. That is the foundation. Once we have peace with God, we can then come to know the peace of God in our daily lives, the peace that guards our hearts and minds. One always comes before the other, because we cannot truly know the settled peace of God until we have received the grace of God in Christ. That grace brings us into a place of rest where we are no longer striving to earn our standing, but simply trusting what He has done.
That peace of God is described as a perfect peace for the person whose mind is stayed on Him, and as a peace that goes beyond human understanding, the very peace Jesus said He would leave with His own. It does not come from everything at work going smoothly or from trying harder to control your thoughts. It comes as you turn your mind toward the Lord and trust Him. When your thoughts are fixed on your tasks, your performance, or how others treat you, even small things can feel overwhelming. When your mind is fixed on Him, with the confidence that He is able to handle what you are facing, His peace begins to fill your heart. It is not that the chaos around you disappears, but that your heart is kept steady in Him.
That is also where true confidence comes from. Confidence does not grow from convincing yourself you are strong enough, but from knowing God is your helper and that He upholds your life. Like David when he was pursued and distressed, you can bring your petitions to God honestly, and then let your prayer move from asking to trusting. David would pour out his trouble and then declare his confidence that God would hear and would save, even before he saw any change in his circumstances. You can do the same. You can tell the Lord about the anxiety, the workload, and the desire for a respectful environment, and then consciously place those things in His hands, believing He will take care of them. Prayer is meant to lead us to that place of assurance and then to praise, resting in the knowledge that He is at work even while we wait.
God desires peace for His people and He offers it as a gift. He wants you to live in peace, to sow peace, and to know His peace within you so you can also be a peacemaker where He has placed you. A respectful and kind workplace is something worth praying for, and worth contributing to as He gives you grace.
I am praying for you, that the Lord would first assure your heart of His grace and of your peace with Him through Jesus, and then fill you with His perfect peace as you keep your mind stayed on Him. I am asking Him to lift the weight of anxiety, to give you a quiet confidence not in yourself but in His help, to give you wisdom and strength for each task before you, and to bring a greater measure of mutual respect and calm to your workplace. May He keep your heart and mind in Christ Jesus and teach you that deep rest that comes from committing yourself fully to Him and trusting Him with whatever He allows.
