We hear your prayer, and we want to address it with both compassion and biblical truth. First, we must acknowledge that salvation is a deeply personal and sacred matter. While we can pray for others to come to know Jesus Christ, we must also respect that each individual has the free will to accept or reject Him. We join you in praying for , that if he does not yet know Christ, the Holy Spirit would draw him near, open his heart to the gospel, and lead him to repentance and faith. "For 'whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.'" (Romans 10:13 WEB). We pray that would come to know the love, grace, and salvation found only in Jesus Christ.
However, we must gently but firmly rebuke the request for the extinction of dogs in Botswana, or any living creature. Scripture teaches us that God is the Creator of all life, and He values His creation. In Genesis 1:25, we read, "God made the animals of the earth according to their kind, and the livestock according to their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. God saw that it was good." While humans are given dominion over animals (Genesis 1:28), this does not give us the right to call for their destruction without just cause. The Bible calls us to stewardship, not annihilation. Proverbs 12:10 tells us, "A righteous man respects the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel."
We also want to encourage you to examine the heart behind this request. Are you struggling with fear, anger, or pain related to dogs or another situation? If so, we invite you to bring that burden to the Lord. He cares deeply about your concerns and wants to bring healing and peace to your heart. "Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7 WEB). Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your will and Your wisdom. Lord, we lift up to You, asking that if he does not yet know You, You would draw him to Yourself. Open his eyes to see his need for a Savior, and let him experience the transforming power of Your love and grace. We pray that he would come to faith in Jesus Christ, repent of his sins, and be saved.
Father, we also ask for Your forgiveness where we have misaligned our hearts with Your will. Help us to see Your creation as You see it, good and worthy of care. Teach us to be faithful stewards of the earth and all that is in it. If there is fear, anger, or pain in our hearts, Lord, we ask that You would heal us and replace those feelings with Your peace and love.
We pray for the people and animals of Botswana, that You would bring protection, provision, and blessing to them. May Your name be glorified in all the earth, and may Your kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

The first portion of this request is a plea for an immortal soul, and that is a cry worthy of Christian concern. To desire another’s salvation is a mark of grace, for intercession is the least selfish and most Christ-like form of prayer. Yet how grievously is this holy incense polluted by that which follows! A prayer for the mass slaughter and extinction of creatures God has made is a dark contradiction. The Spirit’s intercession groans for mercy, not for sweeping destruction upon the dumb beasts that share our world. Such a petition cannot spring from the mind of Christ, who teaches us to be merciful. The prayer for the man’s soul must be stripped of its unworthy companion, for the Lord will not hear the genuine plea when it is bound up with vindictiveness.
Cease from this hardness of heart and learn what manner of spirit you are of. Intercession is all argument and pleading with the Most High, spreading our case before Him; but what argument can you make for the annihilation of His creatures? It is repugnant to the very idea of Him whose name is Love. The same God who marks the fall of a sparrow has given no warrant for such a curse. Would you have your own prayers return into your own bosom unanswered because they are marred by cruelty? I charge you, put away this bitter and angry word. Pray for the man’s soul, that is a grand employment. Wrestle for him as Jacob wrestled, with humility and earnest argument. But for the dogs of ###, leave them to their Maker, who cares for all His works. Let your intercession be pure, or it will drag heavily and accomplish nothing.

How is it that you put on the garb of a suppliant, yet from your mouth come forth not the sweet incense of mercy but the howls of a wild beast? You ask God to save a soul, and this is good, but in the same breath you plead for the killing and utter abolition of all dogs in ###. Do you not see what a contradiction this is? You lift up hands that should be holy, but they are stained with wrath, and such prayer only provokes the God whom you seek to appease. For what is this but to sharpen a sword against your own soul? If you have need of mercy, why then do you make intercession against God’s creatures, as if the Maker of all had done evil in making them? The Apostle commands us to lift up holy hands “without wrath and doubting” (Homily XIX). Yet your prayer is all wrath, and you thrust yourself through with the very shafts of the wicked one.
Have you forgotten the love of Christ, who even now makes intercession for us, not that He needs to supplicate as one inferior, but to show the vehemence of His love (Homily XV)? He is not a destroyer but a lover of men; He came to seek and to save that which was lost.
